Darty

Darty, founded in 1957 by the Darty family in France, is now a wholly owned subsidiary of the UK-based Darty plc specialising in Electrical retailing. The company has different operations across Europe, the original being in France and now in three other countries, Turkey, Italy and Spain. It also formerly had stores in Switzerland.

French operations

In France and Luxembourg Darty owns 209 stores, making it the second largest retailer of the KESA Group (the first is Comet with 248 stores). These 209 stores equal 274,400 square metres of selling space. At the end of 2006, Darty had 10,848 employees.

Darty is the leader of specialized distribution of electronic products for the general public in France. Another of their slogans is to satisfy 100% of the customers. Darty France also provides a repair service guarantee, that if a product is broken in the first one or two years (depending on the product) Darty will fix it.

History

The start of Darty (1957–1974)

In 1957, the Darty family — the father and his three sons, Nathan, Marcel and Bernard — managed a small store of textiles. The Darty brothers started to sell stock, and, to attract customers, they left the goods on the pavement. In a few days, the stock was liquidated. In 1967 the Darty brothers transferred to a larger warehouse.

Mallika Sherawat

Mallika Sherawat (born Reema Lamba on October 24, 1976) is an Indian actress and a former model. Known for her bold onscreen attitude in such films as Khwahish (2003) and Murder (2004) Sherawat has been frequently featured in the media as a sex symbol. She then appeared in successful romantic comedy Pyaar Ke Side Effects (2006) which won her much critical acclaim.

Since then, she has appeared in successes like Aap Ka Suroor - The Real Love Story, Welcome (both 2007) — her biggest commercial success so far — and Double Dhamaal (2011). She is one of the few Bollywood stars trying to crossover to Hollywood, with films like Hisss (2010) and Politics of Love (2011).

Early life

Sherawat was born Reema Lamba in Moth, a small village in Hisar district of Haryana to a Jat family. Mallika's father is named Mukesh Kumar Lamba and she was born in the family of Seth Chhaju Ram, a leading Jat philanthropist. She was born on 24 October 1976. She adopted the screen name of "Mallika", meaning "empress", to avoid confusion with other actresses named Reema. "Sherawat" is her mother's maiden name She has stated that she uses her mother's maiden name because of the support that her mother has provided her.

Om Puri

Om Rajesh Puri OBE (born 18 October 1950) is an Indian actor who has appeared in mainstream commercial Indian and British films, Independent films and art films. His credits also include appearances in American films. He has been awarded Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award of India.

Early life

Om Puri was born in Ambala, Haryana, to a Punjabi Hindu family. His father worked in the railways and in the Indian Army. Puri graduated from the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune. He is also an alumnus of the 1973 class of National School of Drama where Naseeruddin Shah was a co-student.

Career

Puri has worked in numerous Indian films and in many films produced in the United Kingdom and the United States.

He made his film debut in the 1976 Marathi film Ghashiram Kotwal, based on a Marathi play of the same name by Vijay Tendulkar. It was directed by K. Hariharan and Mani Kaul in cooperation with 16 graduates of the FTII. He has claimed that he was paid "peanuts" for his best work. Along with Amrish Puri, Naseeruddin Shah, Shabana Azmi and Smita Patil, he was among the main actors who starred in what was then referred to as art films such as Bhavni Bhavai (1980), Sadgati (1981), Ardh Satya (1982), Mirch Masala (1986) and Dharavi (1992).
