A big thank you to Ben Eells who responded to my call for help on Facebook and spent both a Saturday and a Sunday to shoot footage of Houdini's grave for us. He originally went on Saturday but the graveyard was closed for the Sabbath. I didn't know that! I'm getting Smarter Every Day I guess.

Amazing photos and video footage of Harry Houdini. Portions of this footage have only recently been discovered in 2011. Mysterious? Harry Houdini born "Ehrich Weiss" was born in 1874 in Budpest, Hungary. He changed his name to a more americanized name, after his hero, Robert Houdin. Houdini became famous after escaping from several police handcuffs and jails across the country. After he mastered escaping from handcuffs and jail cells he started to do more daring escapes from straitjackets and coffins, and boxes under water. Houdini died in 1926 after being punched in the abdomen causing a ruptured appendix. Houdini refused medical and died of peritonitis at age of 52.

Master magician Harry Houdini (1874-1926) starred in five silent films from 1919 to 1923. The famed illusionist/escape artist also founded his own movie company, the Houdini Picture Corporation.
In 1919, the great Houdini entered the movie business, eventually appearing in a total of five silent films that are now available in a special three-disc DVD box set: Houdini: The Movie Star DVD (Kino International, 2008).
I have not been able to confirm the exact film that this scene is from, but my guess is that it was a part of "The Master Mystery" (Octagon Films, 1920), a 15 chapter serial — also known as The Houdini Serial — which starred the great Houdini as Quentin Locke, an enterprising G-man who tries to crack a powerful criminal organization.

Houdini is a 1953 biographical film about the life of the magician and escapologist Harry Houdini. It was made by Paramount Pictures, directed by George Marshall and produced by George Pal from a screenplay by Philip Yordan, based on the book Houdini by Harold Kellock. The music score was by Roy Webb and the cinematography by Ernest Laszlo. The art direction was by Albert Nozaki and Hal Pereira and the costume design by Edith Head.
The film details a highly fictional account of Harry Houdini's life. The film follows his most dangerous stunts and magic tricks along with his love Bess Houdini.
The death of the magician is depicted in the film as a failure to escape the Chinese Water Torture Cell; in real life Houdini died of peritonitis due to being punched in the stomach.
In the 1890s, young Harry Houdini is performing with a Coney Island carnival as Bruto, the Wild Man, when Bess, a naive onlooker, tries to protect him from the blows of Schultz, his "trainer." Harry then appears as magician The Great Houdini and, spotting Bess in the audience, invites her on stage. Harry flirts with the unsuspecting Bess during his act, but she flees from him in a panic. When Bess shows up to watch Harry perform two more times, however, he corners her. Bess admits her attraction, and soon after, the two appear at Harry's mother's house, newly married. Bess becomes Harry's onstage partner, touring the country with him, but soon grows tired of the low pay and grueling schedule.

Amazing photos and video footage of Harry Houdini. Portions of this footage have only recently been discovered in 2011. Mysterious? Harry Houdini born "Ehrich Weiss" was born in 1874 in Budpest, Hungary. He changed his name to a more americanized name, after his hero, Robert Houdin. Houdini became famous after escaping from several police handcuffs and jails across the country. After he mastered escaping from handcuffs and jail cells he started to do more daring escapes from straitjackets and coffins, and boxes under water. Houdini died in 1926 after being punched in the abdomen causing a ruptured appendix. Houdini refused medical and died of peritonitis at age of 52. Houdini Rope Escape
Master magician Harry Houdini (1874-1926) starred in five silent films from 1919 to 1923. The famed illusionist/escape artist also founded his own movie company, the Houdini Picture Corporation. In 1919, the great Houdini entered the movie business, eventually appearing in a total of five silent films that are now available in a special three-disc DVD box set: Houdini: The Movie Star DVD (Kino International, 2008). I have not been able to confirm the exact film that this scene is from, but my guess is that it was a part of "The Master Mystery" (Octagon Films, 1920), a 15 chapter serial — also known as The Houdini Serial — which starred the great Houdini as Quentin Locke, an enterprising G-man who tries to crack a powerful criminal organization. Amazing photos and video footage of Harry Houdini. Portions of this footage have only recently been discovered in 2011. Mysterious? Harry Houdini born "Ehrich Weiss" was born in 1874 in Budpest, Hungary. He changed his name to a more americanized name, after his hero, Robert Houdin. Houdini became famous after escaping from several police handcuffs and jails across the country. After he mastered escaping from handcuffs and jail cells he started to do more daring escapes from straitjackets and coffins, and boxes under water. Houdini died in 1926 after being punched in the abdomen causing a ruptured appendix. Houdini refused medical and died of peritonitis at age of 52.

Master magician Harry Houdini (1874-1926) starred in five silent films from 1919 to 1923. The famed illusionist/escape artist also founded his own movie company, the Houdini Picture Corporation.
In 1919, the great Houdini entered the movie business, eventually appearing in a total of five silent films that are now available in a special three-disc DVD box set: Houdini: The Movie Star DVD (Kino International, 2008).
I have not been able to confirm the exact film that this scene is from, but my guess is that it was a part of "The Master Mystery" (Octagon Films, 1920), a 15 chapter serial — also known as The Houdini Serial — which starred the great Houdini as Quentin Locke, an enterprising G-man who tries to crack a powerful criminal organization.
