The character of Wong (not to be confused with the actor Benedict Wong) comes from a family of monks, is a martial arts master and has great knowledge of the dark arts.

Ahead of the highly anticipated release of the Netflix original series Marco Polo this week, The Fan Carpet’s Marc Jason Ali had the pleasure of sitting down with Benedict Wong and Lorenzo Richelmy who play Kublai Khan and the titular Marco Polo respectively to talk about the series which will premiere on Friday, December 12 at 12:01am PT in all regions where Netflix is available.
In a world replete with greed, betrayal, sexual intrigue and rivalry, Marco Polo, starring newcomer Lorenzo Richelmy, is based on the famed explorer’s adventures in Kublai Khan’s court in 13th century China.
The sweeping drama’s ten episodes were shot in Italy, Kazakhstan and Malaysia. The global cast includes Richelmy, Benedict Wong (Prometheus), Joan Chen (Twin Peaks), Chin Han (Arrow, The Dark Knight), Zhu Zhu (Cloud Atlas), Olivia Cheng (The Flash, Broken Trail), Claudia Kim (Avengers: Age of Ultron), Mahesh Jadu (Neighbours), Tom Wu (Skyfall), Remy Hii (Treading Water), Uli Latukefu (Devil’s Playground) and Rick Yune (Olympus Has Fallen, The Fast and the Furious). John Fusco, who wrote the Academy-Award nominated feature Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, created the series and is executive producer and showrunner along with Dan Minahan, whose previous work includes Homeland and Game of Thrones. Academy-Award nominated directors Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales) directed the first two hours and serve as executive producers. MARCO... wait for it... POLO!
They've given us House Of Cards, Orange Is The New Black and BoJack Horseman to name just a few, and now, as an early Christmas present, online streaming giants Netflix are releasing their latest original series, Marco Polo.
Sure, you've heard of Marco Polo the 13th Century merchant traveller from Venice, Italy (thanks Wikipedia!), but this new Netflix series will show us a side of the awesome adventurer that you've never seen before.
Here at JOE HQ, we were lucky enough to get a sneak peek at the excellent new series and we would tell you what the show is all about but, to be honest, we prefer the intriguing Netflix description below...
"The famed explorer’s journey takes him to the centre of a brutal war in 13th century China, a world replete with exotic martial arts, political skulduggery, spectacular battles and sexual intrigue."
Martial arts? Political skulduggery? Spectacular battles AND sexual intrigue?
Sounds like a regular JOE night out to be fair...
To get you in the mood for the release of Marco Polo, we sent resident TV geek and merchant traveller expert Eoghan Doherty along to meet the stars, creator and crew of the show, including Lorenzo Richelmy (Marco Polo), Benedict Wong (Kublai Khan), Zhu Zhu (Kokachin AKA the Blue Princess), John Fusco (show creator) and Daniel Minahan (showrunner), to talk about fighting like wild animals, to talk about fighting against wild animals, and about finding the right man to play the part of the magnificent Marco Polo.
And no, in case you're wondering, they didn't watch JOE's audition tape for some reason. Ah well, maybe next time...

My thoughts on the recent casing of Benedict Wong as Wong in the upcoming Dr Strange movie.
I love how they casted an actor actually called Wong as well so people can't get their SJW shit on and say "OMG what a stereotypical name for an asian character" As if there aren't thousands of asians actually called Wong.

Benedict Wong (born 1970) is an English actor and comedian.
Wong was born in Manchester Lancashire, and attended school in Salford, Lancashire. His first role was in a 1993 BBC Radio play called Kai Mei Sauce, written by Kevin Wong. He appeared alongside Sean Lock in the situation comedy 15 Storeys High, and as Dr. Franklin Fu in the second series of Look Around You. In 2003, he earned a British Independent Film Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Guo Yi in Dirty Pretty Things.
In early 2009 he acted alongside Marc Warren in the play The Pillowman at Leicester's Curve theatre, and then went on to play Li in the BBC's award winning Spirit Warriors.
He recently appeared in the second episode of Series 4 of the Channel 4 comedy The IT Crowd, playing the character Prime, a previous Countdown contestant who had won the sixteenth Countdown teapot when he was known as Harold Tong, and also appeared in the movie Shanghai playing the character Juso Kita, starring alongside John Cusack. He was also Laertes to Michael Sheen's Hamlet at The Young Vic in London.

Marco Polo (
i/ˈmɑrkoʊ ˈpoʊloʊ/; Italian pronunciation: [ˈmarko ˈpɔːlo]; c. 1254 – January 9, 1324) was a Venetian merchant traveler from the Venetian Republic whose travels are recorded in Il Milione, a book which did much to introduce Europeans to Central Asia and China. He learned about trading whilst his father and uncle, Niccolò and Maffeo, travelled through Asia and apparently met Kublai Khan. In 1269, they returned to Venice to meet Marco for the first time. The three of them embarked on an epic journey to Asia, returning after 24 years to find Venice at war with Genoa; Marco was imprisoned, and dictated his stories to a cellmate. He was released in 1299, became a wealthy merchant, married and had three children. He died in 1324, and was buried in San Lorenzo.
Their pioneering journey inspired Christopher Columbus and others. Marco Polo's other legacies include Venice Marco Polo Airport, the Marco Polo sheep, and several books and films. He also had an influence on European cartography, leading to the introduction of the Fra Mauro map.

Chiwetelu Umeadi "Chiwetel" Ejiofor,OBE (pronounced /ˈtʃuːwɨtɛl ˈɛdʒi.oʊfɔr/ CHEW-i-tel EJ-i-oh-for; born 10 July 1977) is a British actor of stage and screen. He has received numerous acting awards and award nominations, including the 2006 BAFTA Awards Rising Star, three Golden Globe Awards' nominations, and the 2008 Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor for his performance in Othello.
Ejiofor was born in London's Forest Gate, to Nigerian parents who belonged to the Igbo ethnic group. His father, Arinze, was a doctor, and his mother, Obiajulu, was a pharmacist. In 1988, when Ejiofor was 11, tragedy occurred during a family trip to Nigeria for a wedding. After the celebrations, his father and Ejiofor were driving to Lagos, when their car was involved in a head-on crash with a lorry. His father was killed, but Ejiofor survived despite being badly injured, receiving the trademark scars on his forehead. Ejiofor began acting in school plays at the age of thirteen at Dulwich College and joined the National Youth Theatre. He played the title role in Othello at the Bloomsbury Theatre in September 1995, and again at the Theatre Royal, Glasgow in 1996 when he starred opposite Rachael Stirling, who played Desdemona.

To get you in the mood for the release of Marco Polo, we sent resident TV geek and merchant traveller expert Eoghan Doherty along to meet the stars, creator and crew of the show, including Lorenzo Richelmy (Marco Polo), Benedict Wong (Kublai Khan), Zhu Zhu (Kokachin AKA the Blue Princess), John Fusco (show creator) and Daniel Minahan (showrunner), to talk about fighting like wild animals, to talk about fighting against wild animals, and about finding the right man to play the part of the magnificent Marco Polo.

They've given us House Of Cards, Orange Is The New Black and BoJack Horseman to name just a few, and now, as an early Christmas present, online streaming giants Netflix are releasing their latest original series, Marco Polo.
Sure, you've heard of Marco Polo the 13th Century merchant traveller from Venice, Italy (thanks Wikipedia!), but this new Netflix series will show us a side of the awesome adventurer that you've never seen before.
Here at JOE HQ, we were lucky enough to get a sneak peek at the excellent new series and we would tell you what the show is all about but, to be honest, we prefer the intriguing Netflix description below...

DmC: Devil May Cry is an alternate universe, having no connection to the current/canon of the original series while starting from the beginning of Dante's exploits as a demon hunter, and showing his growth into something similar to the classic counterpart.
The story takes place in Limbo City, a contemporary town secretly controlled from the shadows by powerful demons, manipulating humanity through the comforts of life. Living on the fringes of the brainwashed society is Dante, a disenfranchised youth at odds with the demons who constantly hunt him, and have made his life a living hell for as long as he could remember. Over the course of his battles through the twisted streets of Limbo, Dante is contacted by The Order, a rogue group led by his long-lost brother Vergil, hell-bent on exposing the demons to the world and releasing Limbo City from their clutches. However, as The Order's principle reason for recruiting Dante is because he alone possesses a particular gene that can be used to combat the demons, he remains wary of Vergil and questions his intentions. While Dante fights alongside The Order, he will learn of his past and the family he never knew, while coming to grips with the incredible powers that come with being a Son of Sparda.When Dante was tortured , there was this girl she met and saved him , then left without saying her name . But she said ' I'll meet you soon again. In the middle of the story she shows up.

Enemies include: Lesser Stygian, Stygian, Ravager, Death Knight, Dreamrunner, Elite Stygian, Bathos, Pathos, Harpy, Witch, Rage, Tyrant, Butcher, CCTV Camera, Demonic Shards.
Bosses include: The Hunter, Poison, Bob Barbas, Lilith, Killing Face, Drekavac and Mundus.
