Russian Armed Forces

The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (Russian: Вооружённые Си́лы Росси́йской Федера́ции, tr. Voruzhonnije Síly Rossíyskoj Federátsii) are the military services of Russia, established after the Dissolution of the Soviet Union. On 7 May 1992 Boris Yeltsin signed a decree establishing the Russian Ministry of Defence and placing all Soviet Armed Forces troops on the territory of the RSFSR under Russian Federation control. The Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces is the President of the Russian Federation. Although the Russian armed forces were formed in 1992, the Russian military dates its roots back to the times of the Kievan Rus'.

The number of troops is permitted by decree of the President of Russia. On January 1, 2008, a quota of 2,019,629 units, including the military 1,134,800 units, was set.

In 2010 the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) estimated that the Russian armed forces numbered about 1,027,000 active troops and in the region of 20,000,000 reserves, (largely ex-conscripts) but a significant military reform is underway which will cut the number of active troops. According to SIPRI, Russia's annual defense spending stands at about $52.7 billion in FY2011.

The armed forces of a country are its government-sponsored defense, fighting forces, and organizations. They exist to further the foreign and domestic policies of their governing body, and to defend that body and the nation it represents from external and internal aggressors. In some countries paramilitary forces are included in a nation's armed forces. Armed force is the use of armed forces to achieve political objectives.

The study of the use of armed forces is called military science. Broadly speaking, this involves considering offense and defense at three "levels": strategy, operational art, and tactics. All three levels study the application of the use of force in order to achieve a desired objective.

In most countries the basis of the armed forces is the military, divided into basic Armed services. However, armed forces can include other paramilitary structures. For example, according to the Lithuanian law on organisation of system of national defence and military service (version actual from November 11, 2004), the Lithuanian armed forces in case of war also include border guards, public police service, parts of Lithuanian Riflemen's Union and guerrillas.

Vooruzhonnije Síly Rossíyskoj Federátsii) are the military service of Russia, established after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. On 7 May 1992, Boris Yeltsin signed a presidential decree establishing the Russian Ministry of Defence and placing all Soviet Armed Forces troops on the territory of the Russian SFSR under Russian control. The commander-in-chief of the armed forces is the president of Russia. Although the Russian armed forces were formed in 1992, the Russian military dates its roots back to the times of the Kievan Rus'. The armed forces are divided into: the three "branches of Armed Forces" (вида вооружённых сил): the Ground Force, Air Force, and the Navy the three "separate troop branches" (Отдельные рода войск): the Strategic Missile Troops, the Aerospace Defense Forces and the Airborne Troops the Rear of the Armed Forces, which has a separate status of its own There are additionally two further "separate troop branches" maintained by the Ministry of the Interior (Internal Troops), the Federal Security Service (Border Service) and troops of the Ministry of Emergency Situations. These are not normally included as branches of the "Armed Forces" but are nonetheless used in armed conflicts. The number of troops is specified by decree of the President of Russia. On 1 January 2008, a number of 2,019,629 units, including military of 1,134,800 units, was set. In 2010 the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) estimated that the Russian Armed Forces numbered about 1,027,000 active troops and in the region of 2,035,000 reserves (largely ex-conscripts). As opposed to personnel specified by decree, actual personnel in the forces and paid was reported by the Audit Chamber of Russia as 766,000 in October 2013. As of December 2013, the armed forces are at 82 percent of the required manpower. According to SIPRI, Russia spent nearly $72 billion on arms in 2011. Russia is planning further increases in its military spending, with draft budgets showing a 53% rise in real terms up to 2014. However, SIPRI adds that many analysts are doubtful whether the industry will be able to deliver on such ambitious plans after decades of stagnation following the collapse of the Soviet Union. Between the years 2005-2009 and 2010-2014, Russian exports of major weapons increased by 37 percent according to SIPRI. New Russian military tanks to boost Russian military power and send a message to the US military. The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (Russian: Вооружённые Си́лы Росси́йской Федера́ции, tr. Vooruzhonnije Síly Rossíyskoj Federátsii) are the military services of Russia, established after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. On 7 May 1992, Boris Yeltsin signed a presidential decree establishing the Russian Ministry of Defence and placing all Soviet Armed Forces troops on the territory of the Russian SFSR under Russian control.[5] The commander-in-chief of the armed forces is the president of Russia. Although the Russian armed forces were formed in 1992, the Russian military dates its roots back to the times of the Kievan Rus'. The number of troops is specified by decree of the President of Russia. On 1 January 2008, a number of 2,019,629 units, including military of 1,134,800 units, was set.[6] In 2010 the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) estimated that the Russian Armed Forces numbered about 1,040,000 active troops and in the region of 2,035,000 reserves (largely ex-conscripts).[7] As opposed to personnel specified by decree, actual personnel in the forces and paid was reported by the Audit Chamber of Russia as 766,000 in October 2013.[8] As of December 2013, the armed forces are at 82 percent of the required manpower.[9] According to SIPRI, Russia spent nearly $72 billion on arms in 2011. Russia is planning further increases in its military spending, with draft budgets showing a 53% rise in real terms up to 2014. However, SIPRI adds that many analysts are doubtful whether the industry will be able to deliver on such ambitious plans after decades of stagnation following the collapse of the Soviet Union.[10] History[edit] Main article: Military history of the Russian Federation As the Soviet Union officially dissolved on 31 December 1991, the Soviet military was left in limbo. For the next year and a half various attempts to keep its unity and transform it into the military of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) failed. Over time, the units stationed in the newly independent republics swore loyalty to their new national governments, while a series of treaties between the newly independent states divided up the military's assets.[11] Apart from assuming control of the bulk of the former Soviet Internal Troops and KGB Border Troops, seemingly the only independent defence move the new Russian leadership made before March 1992 was to announce the creation of a 'National Guard',[12] Until 1995, it was planned to form at least 11 brigades numbering 3-5,000 each, a total of no more than 100,000. National Guard military units were to be deployed in 10 regions, including in Moscow (three brigades), Leningrad (two brigades), and a number of other important cities and regions . By the end of September 1991 in Moscow the National Guard was about 15,000 strong, mostly ex Soviet Armed Forces servicemen. In the end, Yeltsin tabled a decree "On the temporary position of the Russian Guard," but it was not put into practice.[13] After signing the Belavezha Accords on 21 December 1991, the new CIS countries signed a protocol on the temporary appointment of Marshal of Aviation Yevgeny Shaposhnikov as Minister of Defence and commander of the armed forces in their territory, including strategic nuclear forces. On 14 February 1992, he formally became Supreme Commander of the CIS Armed Forces. On 16 March 1992 a decree by Boris Yeltsin created The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, the operational control of Allied High Command and the Ministry of Defense, which was headed by President. Finally, on 7 May 1992 Yelsin signed a decree establishing the armed forces and Yeltsin assumed the duties of the Supreme Commander.[14] Pavel Grachev became the first Minister of Defence, and was made Russia's first Army General on assuming the post. On 7 May 1992, Yeltsin appointed himself as the new Russian Minister of Defence, marking a crucial step in the creation of the new Armed Forces. By August or December 1993 CIS military structures had become CIS military cooperation structures with all real influence lost.[15] In the next few years, Russian forces withdrew from central and eastern Europe, as well as from some newly independent post-Soviet republics. While in most places the withdrawal took place without any problems, the Russian Armed Forces remained in some disputed areas such as the Sevastopol naval base in the Crimea as well as in Abkhazia and Transnistria. The Armed Forces have several bases in foreign countries, especially on territory of the former Soviet Republics. A new military doctrine, promulgated in November 1993, implicitly acknowledged the contraction of the old Soviet military into a regional military power without global ambitions.

The first group of Russian fighter jets returned home on Friday as part of the withdrawal of armed forces from Syria. The aircrafts, including one Tu-154 passenger plane and several Su-34 bombers, landed at an air base outside the city of Voronezh in southern Russia, after taking off from Russia’s Hmeymim air base in Syria’s Latakia province. The returning pilots were greeted with a welcoming ceremony by Viktor Bondarev, the commander-in-chief of the Russian Air Force, servicemen and local residents. This came after Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered his military to start the withdrawal of the main part of Russia's forces from Syria on Monday, saying that the Russian military had largely achieved its objectives. Putin also said that Russia will keep a contingent at its air and naval bases in Syria. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced Monday that he has ordered Russian forces to begin withdrawing from Syria, saying they have achieved their goals in the country. The pullback will begin Tuesday, the state-run Sputnik news agency reported. "I think that the task that was assigned to the Ministry of Defense and the armed forces as a whole has achieved its goal, and so I order the defense minister to start tomorrow withdrawing the main part of our military factions from the Syrian Arab Republic," Putin said. Russia began airstrikes in September in support of the Syrian government in a civil war that is now nearly five years old. CNN Exclusive: Undercover behind rebel lines Airstrikes have caused 'substantial damage' Putin discussed the decision with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in a telephone call. "The two leaders noted that the operations conducted by Russia's Aerospace Forces have brought about a real turnabout in the fight against the terrorists in Syria, throwing their infrastructure into disarray and causing them substantial damage," the Kremlin said. "In this context, Mr. Putin said that Russia's Armed Forces have fulfilled their main mission in Syria and a timetable for the withdrawal of the Aerospace Forces' main air grouping has been agreed. Russia will maintain an aviation support centre in Syria in order to monitor compliance with the ceasefire." Assad "noted the professionalism, courage and heroism of the Russian service personnel who took part in the military operations, and expressed his profound gratitude to Russia for providing such substantial help in fighting terrorism and providing humanitarian assistance to the civilian population," the Kremlin said. Putin also had a conversation about Syria with U.S. President Barack on Monday. "They discussed President Putin's announcement today of a partial withdrawal of Russian forces from Syria and next steps required to fully implement the cessation of hostilities with the goal of advancing the political negotiations on resolution of the conflict. President Obama welcomed the much-needed reduction in violence since the beginning of the cessation, but stressed that continuing offensive actions by Syrian regime forces risk undermining both the Cessation of Hostilities and the UN-led political process," according to a statement from the White House. Peace talks resume in Geneva A partial truce involving Syria's government and numerous rebel groups -- but not terrorist organizations like ISIS and al Nusra Front, which have been responsible for some of the worst carnage -- took effect late last month. Military analysts said the Russian intervention helped push back rebel and ISIS forces and bolster the position of Assad, whose government, for a time, appeared to be teetering on the edge. The United Nations Security Council president has welcomed Russian President Vladimir Putin's announcement of the start of a military withdrawal from Syria, calling it a "positive statement". On Monday Putin announced that "the main part" of Russian armed forces in Syria would start to withdraw, telling his diplomats to step up the push for peace as U.N.-mediated talks resumed on ending the five-year-old war. Following the announcement Damascus rejected any suggestion of a rift with Moscow, saying President Bashar al-Assad had agreed on the "reduction" of Russian forces in a telephone call with Putin.

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the unexpected withdrawal of troops and a marked reduction in its air campaign in the beleaguered country. The announcement came five years since the war started and the same day talks to broker a peaceful resolution to a Syrian conflict begin in Geneva. With at least 300,000 lives lost and 11 million ordinary Syrians forced from their homes, it has never been more important that talks between the Assad regime and rebel groups, brokered by Russia and the West, succeed. So what will this sudden withdrawal mean for the Geneva talks and, ultimately, Syria's future?

Russia’s announcement that it will pull the majority of its armed forces out of Syria is being met with cautious optimism from several quarters. Russian President Vladimir Putin communicated the decision, some five months after he ordered the launch of a military operation that shored up his ally, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. But, questions remain over the practical implications, including whether Moscow will halt airstrikes. At the UN the announcement is being put down to joint efforts by Washington and Moscow. Ismael Abraao Gaspar Martins, Ambassador, UN Security Council President, Permanent Representative of Angola: "This has been made possible thanks to the good cooperation now between the US and Russia. And the fact that this has been, this has made possible first the ceasefire, which is in place, which is holding, which has been made possible the launch of the negotiations which is a fact.” The launch of talks between the Syrian government and its adversaries is being hailed as a major step forward in resolving the civil war in the Middle Eastern state. The negotiations, backed by the US and Russia, are being brokered by the UN. Here too, the Syrian opposition is sounding a positive note on Russia’s withdrawal plans. Salim al-Muslat, HNC Spokesman: "You know, whatever Russia decides, this of course will affect the regime. Hopefully we will see this on the ground, that Russians are not in Syria anymore. We want the Russian people to be friends in Syria and not partners in killing Syrians. It will be, it will be important if this decision is taken, it will be more important if Putin decides to really stand beside the Syrian people, not beside the dictator." The conflict in Syria has been raging for five years. The UN’s special envoy to the country says if peace talks fail, the only ‘Plan B’ is a return to full-scale war. International political leaders have welcomed the Russian military pullout from Syria, and while many have called the Kremlin’s decision “unexpected,” it is seen as clearing the way for dialogue at a time when a truce in five-year-old war is negotiated in Geneva.Acknowledging that five months of military campaigns have mostly succeeded in their primary objective of eliminating the immediate wider threat from Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL), President Vladimir Putin, has ordered the partial withdrawal of Russian armed forces from Syria.Russia has placed its strategic emphasis on establishing a diplomatic effort, with Putin instructing the Foreign Ministry to intensify Moscow’s participation in organizing the peace process to resolve the Syrian crisis, which is about to enter its sixth year. After announcing partial Russian withdrawal, President Putin, explained to his American counterpart in a phone conversation that the decision will “certainly serve as a good signal to all conflicting sides and create conditions for the start of a true peace process,” the Kremlin said in a statement. The timing of the Russian decision is crucial as vital negotiations to avert further bloodshed in Syria resumed on Monday in Geneva. The last round of negotiations collapsed in January because the opposition block refused to debate their differences as Russian air raids intensified near the northern Syrian city of Aleppo. Obama welcomed the “much-needed reduction in violence” since the cease-fire took effect late last month, the White House said in a statement about Monday’s phone call. “The President underscored that a political transition is required to end the violence in Syria,” the White House added. German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier also welcomed Moscow’s announcement saying it will put additional pressure on parties in Geneva to negotiate a peaceful transition to end the Syrian turmoil. “This will increase the pressure on the al-Assad regime to finally and seriously negotiate a peaceful political transition in Geneva,” Steinmeier said in a statement. While Russia plans to maintain military presence at its naval base in Tartous and at the Khmeymim airbase, Moscow's decision to reduce its military involvement in Syria has already been welcomed by the Syrian opposition currently negotiating in Geneva.

푸틴, 시리아에서 러시아군 주요병력 철수 명령 Russian President Vladimir Putin has issued a surprise order to start the withdrawal of his military forces from Syria. He has also told his diplomats to push for peace as UN-mediated talks resume on ending the Syrian civil war. Park Se-young has the details. The main deployment of Russian armed forces in Syria will start leaving the country from Tuesday. Speaking at the Kremlin, President Putin said Russia had largely achieved its aims. "I believe that the goal set out to the ministry of defense and the armed forces has in large part been fulfilled and that's why I order the minister of defense as of tomorrow to start the pullout of the main part of our military grouping from the Syrian Arab Republic." Putin's surprise decision comes as fresh peace talks aimed at resolving the Syrian civil war resumed in Geneva. Russia began air strikes in September in support of the Syrian government in the five-year conflict. The Syrian opposition, which has bore the brunt of the strikes, says the withdrawal will give peace talks "a positive push" if Russia is serious. The president of the UN Security Council welcomed Moscow's announcement, calling it a "positive statement." "When we see forces withdrawing it means war is taking a different step. So that's good." Experts say Putin's decision may be a signal to the Assad regime in Damascus that they are not going to get Russian support indefinitely, and that further support may come at the price of peace talks. A great documentary series on the most deadly Russian Military mountain soldiers. The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (Russian: Вооружённые Си́лы Росси́йской Федера́ции, tr. Vooruzhonnije Síly Rossíyskoj Federátsii) are the military service of Russia, established after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. The armed forces are divided into: the three "branches of Armed Forces" (вида вооружённых сил): the Ground Force, Air Force, and the Navy the three "separate troop branches" (Отдельные рода войск): the Strategic Missile Troops, the Aerospace Defense Forces and the Airborne Troops the Rear of the Armed Forces, which has a separate status of its own There are additionally two further "separate troop branches" maintained by the Ministry of the Interior, the Border Force and the Internal Troops. These are not normally included as branches of the "Armed Forces" but are nonetheless used in armed conflicts. The number of troops is specified by decree of the President of Russia. However, SIPRI adds that many analysts are doubtful whether the industry will be able to deliver on such ambitious plans after decades of stagnation following the collapse of the Soviet Union.[10] Structure[edit] The Defence Ministry of the Russian Federation serves as the administrative body of the Armed Forces. Since Soviet times, the General Staff has acted as the main commanding and supervising body of the Russian armed forces: U.S. expert William Odom said in 1998, that 'the Soviet General Staff without the MoD is conceivable, but the MoD without the General Staff is not.'[22] However, currently the General Staff's role is being reduced to that of the Ministry's department of strategic planning, the Minister himself, currently Sergey Shoygu may now be gaining further executive authority over the troops.[citation needed] Other departments include the personnel directorate as well as the Rear Services, railway troops, Signal Troops and construction troops. The Chief of the General Staff is currently General of the Army Valery Gerasimov. The Russian military is divided into three services: the Russian Ground Forces, the Russian Navy, and the Russian Air Force. In addition there are three independent arms of service: Strategic Missile Troops, Russian Aerospace Defense Forces, and the Russian Airborne Troops. The Air Defence Troops, the former Soviet Air Defence Forces, have been subordinated into the Air Force since 1998. The Armed Forces as a whole are traditionally referred to as the Army (armiya), except in some cases, the Navy is specifically singled out. Since late 2010 the Ground Forces as well as the Air Forces and Navy are distributed among four military districts: Western Military District, Southern Military District, Central Military District, and the Eastern Military District which also constitute four Joint Strategic Commands — West, South, Central, and East. Previously from 1992 to 2010, the Ground Forces were divided into six military districts: Moscow, Leningrad, North Caucausian, Privolzhsk-Ural, Siberian and Far Eastern and Russia's four fleets and one flotilla were organizations on par with the Ground Forces' Military Districts. These six MDs were merged into the four new MDs, which now also incorporate the air forces and naval forces. There is one remaining Russian military base, the 102nd Military Base, in Armenia left of the former Transcaucasus Group of Forces. It likely reports to the Southern Military District. The Navy consists of four fleets and one flotilla: Northern Fleet (HQ at Severomorsk) subordinated to Joint Strategic Command West. Baltic Fleet (HQ at Kaliningrad in the exclave of Kaliningrad Oblast) subordinated to Joint Strategic Command West.

All the rough ports are WIP, but even then the mod looks great! For being version 0.3, this is really playable already. This isn't a review or anything. Anything I missed? Throw a comment below. Probably something I did wrong. :P A showcase of RHS: Escalation's Russian Federation faction. Mainly a look at one skin of most vehicles, the VDV units. There are plenty of other skins, but then we'd have hundreds of vehicles. ================================================= Before you ask any questions in the comments, read through the FAQ: Q: What are your specs? A: https://www.youtube.com/user/PhantomsmediaTV/about Q: Where can I get in touch with you? A: http://twitter.com/PhantomsmediaTV or my Steam, Jani. Steam for collaboration and other important items, Twitter for saying hi! Q: Where can I find out more about your group? A: The best place is www.phantactical.com. Q: How old do you have to be to join PhanTactical? A: 18+, with no exceptions. Q: What do I need to do to be a part? A: Apply. Once accepted, we require that you're active on our forums and Teamspeak 3, as well as on ArmA nights. This is an ArmA group, but we're a group of friends as well. We are not just a bunch of randoms playing ArmA. Everyone knows each other. Q: What is the average player count? A: 30-35. The community is growing though, hopefully we can field a full platoon of 60 sometime soon. Q: How often does PhanTactical have events? A: Friday and Saturday at 4pm PST and 2pm PST respectively. An optional training on Tuesday, 4pm PST. Q: Do I have to be a native English speaker? A: Of course not, but you must speak fluent English. Q: Is this community exclusively ArmA or can I play other games? A: We're an ArmA group entirely, official events are always ArmA. Yet people use TS3 and forums to organize other games with friends within the group! ================================================= "This video was created using content of Bohemia Interactive a.s." The present Russian Navy was formed in January 1992, succeeding the Navy of the Commonwealth of Independent States, which had itself succeeded the Soviet Navy following the dissolution of the Soviet Union in December 1991. The regular Russian Navy was established by Peter the Great (Peter I) in October 1696. Ascribed to Peter I is the oft quoted statement: "A ruler that has but an army has one hand, but he who has a navy has both." The symbols of the Russian Navy, the St. Andrew's flag and ensign (seen to the right), and most of its traditions were established personally by Peter I. Neither Jane's Fighting Ships nor the International Institute for Strategic Studies list any standard ship prefixs for the vessels of the Russian Navy. For official U.S. Navy photographs, they are sometimes referred to as "RFS" — "Russian Federation Ship". However, the Russian Navy does not use this convention for itself. The Russian Navy possesses the vast majority of the former Soviet naval forces, and currently comprises the Northern Fleet, the Russian Pacific Fleet, the Russian Black Sea Fleet, the Russian Baltic Fleet, the Russian Caspian Flotilla, Naval Aviation, and the coastal troops (consisting of the naval infantry and the coastal missile and artillery troops).

US Military Power - Russian Military Power 2015 Keywords: United States Armed Forces, US Military NASTY SURPRISE for Russian Navy, Why does the US have 800 military bases around the world, The Largest Aircraft, America Future Secrets Military Weapons, Ground Pounders, US Military sends DEADLY MESSAGE to Terrorists, U.S. Military Power 2015, US military pilots  -------------------------- United States Armed Forces The United States Armed Forces are the military forces of the United States. They consist of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, and Coast Guard. The U.S. has a strong tradition of civilian control of the military. The President of the United States is the military's overall head, and helps form military policy with the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), a federal executive department, acting as the principal organ by which military policy is carried out. The DoD is headed by the Secretary of Defense, who is a civilian and Cabinet member. The Defense Secretary is second in the military's chain of command, just below the President, and serves as the principal assistant to the President in all DoD-related matters. To coordinate military action with diplomacy, the President has an advisory National Security Council headed by a National Security Advisor. Both the President and Secretary of Defense are advised by a seven-member Joint Chiefs of Staff, which includes the head of each of the Defense Department's service branches as well as the chief of the National Guard Bureau. Leadership is provided by the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The Commandant of the Coast Guard is not a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. All of the branches work together during operations and joint missions, under the Unified Combatant Commands, under the authority of the Secretary of Defense with the exception of the Coast Guard. The Coast Guard falls under the administration of the Department of Homeland Security and receives its operational orders from the Secretary of Homeland Security. The Coast Guard may be transferred to the Department of the Navy by the President or Congress during a time of war. All five armed services are among the seven uniformed services of the United States; the others are the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Commissioned Officer Corps. Russian Armed Forces The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation are the military services of Russia, established after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. On 7 May 1992, Boris Yeltsin signed a presidential decree establishing the Russian Ministry of Defence and placing all Soviet Armed Forces troops on the territory of the RSFSR under Russian control. The commander-in-chief of the armed forces is the president of Russia. Although the Russian armed forces were formed in 1992, the Russian military dates its roots back to the times of the Kievan Rus'. The number of troops is specified by decree of the President of Russia. On 1 January 2008, a number of 2,019,629 units, including military of 1,134,800 units, was set. In 2010 the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) estimated that the Russian Armed Forces numbered about 1,040,000 active troops and in the region of 2,035,000 reserves (largely ex-conscripts). As opposed to personnel specified by decree, actual personnel in the forces and paid was reported by the Audit Chamber of Russia as 766,000 in October 2013. As of December 2013, the armed forces are at 82 percent of the required manpower, decades of stagnation following the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Russian Military MOST DEADLY Mountain Soldiers Documentary E1

A great documentary series on the most deadly Russian Military mountain soldiers. The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (Russian: Вооружённые Си́лы Росси́йской Федера́ции, tr. Vooruzhonnije Síly Rossíyskoj Federátsii) are the military service of Russia, established after the dissolution of the Soviet Union.

This previously altered handout and photo made available by forensic archaeologist and anthropologist Matteo Borrini of Florence University, Italy, Friday March 13, 2009, shows the 16th-century remains of a woman with a brick stuck between her jaws, as depicted in the computer generated image at left, unearthed in 2006 in an archaeological dig near Venice, northern Italy. Experts say the brick between her jaws is evidence that she was believed to be a vampire. The unusual burial is thought to be the result of an ancient vampire-slaying ritual and links the legend of these mythical bloodsucking creatures to medieval ignorance of how diseases spread and what happens to bodies after death, experts said. The well-preserved skeleton was found in 2006 on the Lazzaretto Nuovo island, north of the lagoon city, amid other corpses buried in a mass grave during a plague epidemic that hit Venice in 1576.
