So here we are at the
Irish Redhead Convention. And behind me is where they're taking photos of all the natural redheads so unfortunately I can't get involved. And we're going to look around and enjoy some of the events that are on.
So this is fantastic. We're going to talk to the perfect person
Jolene here who came up with the Redhead Convention. So we wanted her to tell us about where you came up with the idea and where it all started.
Okay. So basically, this started completely as a joke. It was a conversation between myself and my brother. I'm sure you're going to meet him at some
point during the day.
But we were sitting down in our family pub, Cronin's which is just here behind us and it was coming up to
Denis' birthday. And this kind of idea of having a party but only for redheads just kind of blossomed and it was kind of perfect cos it meant basically that there'd be nobody at the party. And we'd have to organise much. But little did we know that four years down the line
..
So you're the
King and Queen from last year.
Yeah, from last year.
So what was that like?
The reign coming to an end.
You still have how many minutes left now?
Approximately 57 minutes.
That's good enough. That's almost an hour
How did it feel to be crowned last year?
It was fantastic. I mean I came into it to win it. I came down with my plan, with my manifesto. So then when I got in, I was thrilled to bits. I felt, you know, been a redhead. Suffered through some injustices at the hands of others who don't appreciate how fabulous we are. And now, its my moment of glory. So its all been worth it.
Brilliant.
The next category is for the best red beard.
How did you feel?
It was excellent for me. I would say probably up until that point, being crowned the king was the best achievement in my life other than being able to grow a beard.
So we even have red haired dogs at this convention.
I'm from
Victoria, Canada.
Cool.
And I'm from
Moscow, Idaho so we're kind of in the same area.
So do you have like red haired genes in the area. No.
And where are you from?
I'm from
Philadelphia in the
United States
So you're all from different places.
Did you know each other before you came. No, you just met here.
My brother read about it and said you're going to be in
Europe so you should hop on over. So yes I should.
The very first category that we're going to award for today is the best red eyebrows.
This weekend has been phenomenal.
I've had people literally from all over the world, like the amount of
Americans is crazy. Like I've met people from
Vermont, from
Texas, from
New York. Like there's
Canadians, there's loads of
Germans here. I met
Dutch people, it's amazing.
So what better way to end a lovely day at the Irish Redhead Convention than by having a glass of ginger beer.
C'mon.
Lets get it going.
Everybody.
