John McLean (March 11, 1785 – April 4, 1861) was an American jurist and politician who served in the United States Congress, as U.S. Postmaster General, and as a justice on the Ohio and U.S. Supreme Courts. He was often discussed for the Whig and Republican nominations for President.
McLean was born in Morris County, New Jersey, the son of Fergus McLean and Sophia Blackford. After living in a succession of frontier towns, Morgantown, Virginia; Nicholasville, Kentucky; and Maysville, Kentucky; in 1797 his family settled in Ridgeville, Warren County, Ohio. It was here that Mclean received his only formal education in the classical style and that his interest in law began to develop. It can also be argued that his anti-slavery views also began to form at this time, given his upbringing as an evangelical Methodist with a focus on egalitarianism. His brother William was also a successful Ohio politician. His brother Finis McLean was a United States Representative from Kentucky.
Demetri Evan Martin (born May 25, 1973) is an American comedian, actor, artist, musician, writer, and humorist. He is best known for his work as a stand-up comedian, being a contributor on The Daily Show, and his Comedy Central show Important Things with Demetri Martin.
Martin was born on May 25, 1973 to a Greek American family in New York City, New York, the son of nutritionist Lillian and Greek Orthodox priest Dean C. Martin (now deceased). He grew up in Toms River, New Jersey, and has a younger brother named Spyro.
Martin graduated from Yale University in 1995. During his time there, he wrote a 224-word poem about alcoholism as a project for a fractal geometry class, which became a well known palindromic poem. He was also a member of the Anti-Gravity Society, whose members juggle objects on Sunday evenings on Yale's Old Campus.
Although Martin was accepted into Harvard Law School, he went to New York University School of Law after he received a full scholarship. Martin withdrew from law school before the start of his final year, opting to pursue comedy over finishing his Juris Doctor.
On February 3, 1959, rock and roll musicians Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J. P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson were killed in a plane crash near Clear Lake, Iowa, together with the pilot, Roger Peterson. The event later became known as "The Day the Music Died", after singer-songwriter Don McLean so referred to it in his song "American Pie".
At the time, Holly and his band, consisting of Waylon Jennings, Tommy Allsup, and Carl Bunch, were playing on the "Winter Dance Party" tour across the Midwest. Rising artists Valens and Richardson had joined the tour as well.
The long journeys between venues on board the cold, uncomfortable tour buses adversely affected the performers, with cases of flu and even frostbite. After stopping at Clear Lake to perform, and frustrated by such conditions, Holly fatefully decided to charter a plane to reach their next venue in Moorhead, Minnesota. Richardson, who had flu, swapped places with Jennings, taking the latter's seat on the plane, while Allsup lost his seat to Valens on a coin toss.

Over the last 6 or 7 years I’ve been hailing trumpeter and bandleader Jeremy Pelt as a musician who understands his role as a musician as well as tremendous arranger. In his third HighNote Records release “Soul,” Pelt once again demonstrates his growth as a bandleader whose time has come and is making important strides as a post-bop jazz musician. His current quintet is a mirror of jazz legends and units past but a reflection of how Jeremy is intent on keeping his voice and writing first in the eyes of the way the music is moving forward. With musicians like drummer Gerald Cleaver, saxophonist J.D. Allen, pianist Danny Grissett, and bassist Dwayne Burno backing him up, his growth has been outstanding and has shown in his live performances. Pelt, a graduate of the Berklee College of Music,...

You came to me from my history
to sweep all the dust away
No, I never thought I would see today
So I thank yu for just being so damn
excellent
You are so excellent
You saved me from a rainy day
And melted all the clouds in the sky
Yes, I always wished it could be this good
So I thank you for just being so damn
excellent
You are so excellent
You still held me near when I was far away
Waiting for our sunny day
Living your life but always in mine
Thank you for just being so damn
excellent
you are so excellent
You brought me home to this happy house
You're the reason for the width of my smile
Stay with me, don't lose me now
So I can thank you for just being so damn
