My e-begging attempt for the June tour of Western Ukraine. Scroll further for all the details. Plus, the interviews are off the table since there is no way I can cover all the hotel costs to stay extra days to conduct them. After all, I can't expect people in Ukraine to change their own schedules to appease me. Raise between $300 - $600: I cover everything from the map - but the interviews will be shorter than I want them and the footage will be like the one in the Exploring Chernivtsi video. Raise between $600 - $900: I cover everything I promised in the video but no bonus content. Raise between $900 - $1200 All of the above plus bonus content. For instance, if money allows, I want to stop in other smaller localities (such as Mukachevo, Invano Frankivsk, etc.). Raise $1200 or more: Anything extra will go to investing in new equipment or adding extra cities that are currently not in the plan. For instance, if this campaign generates $2500 or more, I'll buy one extra camera (for two-angle footage) and a portable microphone (for better sound during interviews and interventions). Risks & Challenges The worst thing that can happen is that I won't be having enough money raised to cover Uzhgorod and make the interviews. Even if this campaign totally and utterly fails, I'll still cover Lviv, Kyiv and several rural areas in Chernivtsi Oblast (and hopefully the Chernivtsi Jewish museum, if I get into the town at the right time and the museum isn't closed, like it happened the last 2 times I was there). Financial details In the interest of transparency, let me lay out some of the costs that I cannot work around, no matter what. Costs in Romania: - $75 - train fares (from Cluj Napoca to Sighetu Marmației and from Suceava/Iași back to Cluj when I come back from Ukraine) - $25 - costs in Sighetu Marmației (taxi fares, museum ticket, museum tax for videotaping, food, etc.) Costs in Ukraine: - $300 - hotels - a decent hotel room costs somewhere between 600 and 800 hryvnia per night. That is around $30. So $300 for 10 nights in 5 or 6 different cities/towns. - $250 - bus/train fares. Transport isn't particularly expensive in Ukraine but the distances are long and the roads are far from top class. For instance, the train trip from Lviv to Kyiv takes 8 hours for 550km. Similar thing is to be expected from Kyiv to Chernivtsi/Cernăuți. From Solotvino to Uzhgorod, a trip by bus takes at least 4 hours (sometimes 5) for 260km. - $150 - food. At my size, I have to eat :)) - Now, food isn't particularly expensive if you know where to eat. But usually the highly affordable places are located on inconvenient streets. Nevertheless, I never spent more than $200 on food even when I stayed for one month, so $150 for food should be more than fine. - $300 - museums and guides. Now, museum tickets aren't particularly expensive but things get pricier if you want a guide and permission to videotape - and that's exactly what I want. Also, there is a guided tour available for Kyiv that costs ~$35 that I will definitely employ because otherwise I'd waste too much time trying to discover all of the things nice by myself. Also, I want to cover multiple museums. - $100 - other fees. Paypal will take its fees. Not to mention what one loses when converting from USD to RON and then to UAH. There's also small fees like "luggage fee" in the busses (yes, that's common practice in Ukraine) or entrance in public bathrooms. All of these over a period of 10 days can become quite significant in total. Dates of delivery Once I come back to Cluj Napoca - it should take no more than 5 days until I upload the first video, and no more than 20 days until I upload the whole series. Basically, if everything goes as planned, I want to make the following videos: 1. Victims of Communism Memorial of Sighetu Marmatiei (at least 20 minutes) 2. The history of Zakarpattia - interview with a historian (at least 30 minutes) 3. Exploring Uzhgorod, Ukraine (at least 45 minutes) 4. Exploring Lviv, Ukraine (at least 45 minutes) 5. Exploring Kyiv, part 1 and part 2 (at least 100 minutes in total - aiming for 150 minutes) 6. The Jewish Museum in Chernivtsi (at least 20 minutes) 7. Bonus/surprise content (at least 60 minutes)
