A bank is a financial institution that creates credit by lending money to a borrower, thereby creating a corresponding deposit on the bank's balance sheet. Lending activities can be performed either directly or indirectly through capital markets. Due to their importance in the financial system and influence on national economies, banks are highly regulated in most countries. Most nations have institutionalized a system known as fractional reserve banking under which banks hold liquid assets equal to only a portion of their current liabilities. In addition to other regulations intended to ensure liquidity, banks are generally subject to minimum capital requirements based on an international set of capital standards, known as the Basel Accords.
Banking in its modern sense evolved in the 14th century in the rich cities of Renaissance Italy but in many ways was a continuation of ideas and concepts of credit and lending that had their roots in the ancient world. In the history of banking, a number of banking dynasties — notably, the Medicis, the Fuggers, the Welsers, the Berenbergs and the Rothschilds — have played a central role over many centuries. The oldest existing retail bank is Monte dei Paschi di Siena, while the oldest existing merchant bank is Berenberg Bank.
Today may refer to:
The Bank of England, formally the Governor and Company of the Bank of England, is the central bank of the United Kingdom and the model on which most modern central banks have been based. Established in 1694, it is the second oldest central bank in the world, after the Sveriges Riksbank, and the world's 8th oldest bank. It was established to act as the English Government's banker and is still the banker for the Government of the United Kingdom. The Bank was privately owned by stockholders from its foundation in 1694 until nationalised in 1946.
In 1998, it became an independent public organisation, wholly owned by the Treasury Solicitor on behalf of the government, with independence in setting monetary policy.
The Bank is one of eight banks authorised to issue banknotes in the United Kingdom, but has a monopoly on the issue of banknotes in England and Wales and regulates the issue of banknotes by commercial banks in Scotland and Northern Ireland.
The Bank's Monetary Policy Committee has devolved responsibility for managing monetary policy. The Treasury has reserve powers to give orders to the committee "if they are required in the public interest and by extreme economic circumstances" but such orders must be endorsed by Parliament within 28 days. The Bank's Financial Policy Committee held its first meeting in June 2011 as a macro prudential regulator to oversee regulation of the UK's financial sector.

Food bank Britain 2013
Channel 4 the Great Britain newschannel missed all the real news points and the issues upon the Queen's visit to the bank of England in 2013. When Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip visited the Bank of England - the British Channel 4 Press inferred that by her asking questions about the financial crisis - she may be interfering with the Bank of England. Meanwhile the Rothschild owners of the Bank of England were absent. They were afterall the main cause of the crisis - shame on them. How? Through their Cartel of subsidiary banks operated by the cultist Rothchild's and associates who also own the Bank of England, banks of Switzerland and Federal Reserve and nearly all the private central banks in the world. Therefore this is another example of the hypocrisy and your mind control by the wh...
The head of the Bank of England, Mark Carney, appears to have switched his stance on Brexit. Having been committed to staying in the EU, and repeatedly warning the British public of the risks of leaving, he's now flip-flopped and admitted it does not pose the threat he once thought it might. That comes in the wake of recently-revised positive growth forecasts. VICE heads to Newcastle to go inside one of the busiest food banks in Britain, where food is being distributed for free to more than 1,000 people a week. We meet the dedicated volunteers and the locals for whom poverty has become a part of everyday life after decades of industrial decline and years of austerity cuts. Inevitably, in such a situation, the system will occasionally falter. Piers Morgan broke the law live on Good Morning Britain earlier today. While presenting the show with co-host Susanna Reid, he decided to test out the durability of the Bank of England's new £5 notes. He started out his experiment by putting the money for a spin in a washing machine - but the note was left in perfect condition afterwards. Out of frustration he then attempted to tear the paper cash with his hands before using his teeth, which finally caused it to rip.Chuffed he found a method to destroy the cash, he then tore another £5 note with his teeth in celebration, leaving Susanna Reid shocked. "I cannot believe you just did," she said. "I'm not sure if that's even legal. We'll have to look into it."Another then commented: "Given the type of audience that watches GMB may not have...

One by one Britain's banks continue to disappear from the high street. Today Lloyds, which is still part-owned by the taxpayer, announced plans to close another 200 branches, and cut three thousand jobs. The move is partly it says, because of the economic problems caused by Brexit but also because more of us are switching to banking online. As Peter Lane found out in Sheffield though - that's little consolation to some customers.

A pleasure craft (or pleasure boat) is a boat used for personal, family, and sometimes sportsmanlike recreation. Such watercraft are divided into two main categories: motorboats and sailboats. There are also rowboats and canoes. They are used for holidays, for example on a river, lake, canal, waterway, in an archipelago or coastal area. Pleasure craft are normally kept at a marina. They may include accommodation for use while moored to the bank. In Great Britain, many narrowboats were converted into pleasure craft from their previous use for cargo transport on canals, and today the same hull style is commonly used for new pleasure craft using the canal system. . President Richard Nixon famously said ‘we are all Keynesians now.’ Keynes and his General Theory set much of the intellectual framework that would be used on to analyse macro-economic activity, with competing schools of thought largely defined by how they reacted to it. Keynes took on Britain’s economic establishment – and he won. The Treasury view today just is Keynesian, as is the basic framework employed by the Bank of England or OBR. In this keynote speech, we ask Lord Macpherson, former Permanent Secretary to the Treasury, to reflect on the impact of Keynes on policy today, what the General Theory got right, and where it went wrong. Professor Paul Omerod then responds and offers a few of his own thoughts on Keynes's grand theory.
