Guardian (Marvel Comics)

Guardian (James "Mac" MacDonald Hudson, Jr.), also known as Weapon Alpha and Vindicator, is a fictional character, a Canadian superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character was the leader of Alpha Flight. He was created by John Byrne, and first appeared in Uncanny X-Men #109 which was co-plotted by Byrne and his long-time collaborator Chris Claremont. He was designed to be the Canadian equivalent of Captain America, hence his costume markings are modeled after the Canadian flag. Guardian is often confused with Captain Canuck, another Canadian-themed superhero with similar costume and superpowers.

Publication history

Guardian first appeared in Uncanny X-Men #109 (February, 1978). He appeared as a member in the first 12 issues of Alpha Flight vol. 1.

Fictional character biography

James MacDonald Hudson was born in London, Ontario,Canada. He is a leading petrochemical engineer and scientist for the Am-Can Corporation developing a powered exoskeleton suit. When he learns that his work will be used for American military purposes, Hudson raids his workplace, steals the prototype suit and destroys the plans. He leaves the suit to be recovered (albeit without the vital control helmet, which he built before coming to the company) and fully expects to be sued and arrested for his actions.

Guardian (video game)

Guardian is a 3D shoot 'em up video game. It was originally released in 1994 for the Commodore Amiga CD32 game console, and later converted to the Amiga 1200 on floppy disk. Originally previewed in the press under the name SibWing and apparently an homage to the Super NES game Star Fox, the final game was an accomplished three-dimensional update of the classic arcade game Defender.

Guardian is known to be one of the very few Amiga CD32 games to be apparently programmed for the CD32 first and then ported in stripped-down form to the Amiga computers—the vast majority of CD32 software releases were little more than standard Amiga games with minimum, if any, enhancements.

Guardian was particularly lauded by the popular games magazine Amiga Power. In the penultimate issue of the publication in August 1996, Guardian was rated the third best Amiga game ever in a Top 100 feature compiled by Amiga Power staff past and present.

Guardian (polymer)

Guardian is the trademark name of a polymer manufactured by Innovia Films Ltd. Its production involves gravity feeding a molten polymer, composed of extruded polypropylene and other polyolefins, through a four-storey chamber. This creates sheets of the substrate used as the base material by many central banks in the printing of polymer banknotes.

Production

Polypropylene is processed to create pellets. These pellets are extruded from a core extruder in conjunction with polyolefin pellets from two "skin layer" extruders, and are combined into a molten polymer. This consists of a 37.5µm thick polypropylene sheet sandwiched between two 0.1 µm polyolefin sheets, creating a thin film 37.7 µm thick.

The molten polymer undergoes snap cooling as it passes by gravity feeding through a brass mandrel, which imparts on the thin film many properties, including its transparency. The cast tube material is then reheated and blown into a large bubble using air pressure and temperature. At the base of the four-storey chamber convergence rollers collapse the tube into a flat sheet consisting of two layers of the thin film. This creates the base biaxially-oriented polypropylene substrate of 75.4 µm thickness, called ClarityC by Innovia Films.

County Mayo

County Mayo (Irish: Contae Mhaigh Eo, meaning "Plain of the yew trees") is a county in Ireland. In the West of Ireland, it is part of the province of Connacht and is named after the village of Mayo, now generally known as Mayo Abbey. Mayo County Council is the local authority for the county. The population of the county was 130,638 at the 2011 census. The boundaries of the county, which was formed in 1585, reflect the Mac William Íochtar lordship at that time.

It is bounded on the north and west by the Atlantic Ocean; the south is adjacent to County Galway, the east is adjacent to County Roscommon; the northeast is adjacent to County Sligo. Mayo is the third-largest of Ireland's 32 counties in area and 15th largest in terms of population. It is the second-largest of Connacht’s five counties in both size and population. There is a distinct geological difference between the north and the south of the county. The north consists largely of poor subsoils and is covered with large areas of extensive Atlantic blanket bog, whereas the south is largely a limestone landscape. Agricultural land is therefore more productive in the south than in the north.

Composition

"Angel" is a ballad about a man who's in love with an angel but realizes that he eventually has to let her go. Randy Shatkowski of Underground Pulse describes the song as an "electronic-tinged lost love ballad" and noted Tyler Connolly's vocals to be his most vulnerable yet.

Chart positions

"Angel" peaked at No. 2 on the Mainstream Rock chart, making it the band's highest peaking single there since "Lowlife" reached No. 1 in 2011. The song has also gained airplay on SiriusXM the Pulse.

Stitch (Experiment 626) is one of the namesake characters of the Lilo & Stitch franchise. Originally an illegal genetic experiment created by mad alien scientist Dr. Jumba Jookiba to cause chaos across the galaxy, he is marked by his short temper and mischievous behavior (traits that endear him to his friend Lilo, who adopted him as her "dog"). He is voiced by his creator and the film's co-director, Chris Sanders, in all official media except the Stitch! anime, where he is voiced by Ben Diskin for its English dub.

Lilo Pelekai

Lilo Pelekai (/ˈliːloʊ/ LEE-loh) (literally, "lost" in Hawaiian) is the other namesake character of the franchise. She is a young Hawaiian girl who lives on the island of Kauaʻi with her older sister Nani and her extended family of alien visitors marooned on Earth. She is voiced by Daveigh Chase in all the films and Lilo & Stitch: The Series, except Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch where she was voiced by Dakota Fanning.
