The Memorial Tournament is a PGA Tour golf tournament, founded 40 years ago in 1976 by Jack Nicklaus. It is played on a Nicklaus-designed course at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio, a suburb north of his home town of Columbus. The golf course passes through a large neighborhood called Muirfield Village. There is a statue along Muirfield Drive of Nicklaus teaching a young child how to golf.
As a restricted field event on the PGA Tour, only the first 75 players on the previous year's money list are guaranteed invitations.
One of the main features of the tournament is a yearly induction ceremony honoring past golfers. A plaque for each honoree is installed near the clubhouse at Muirfield. Nicklaus himself was the honoree in 2000.
Columbus (Upper Arlington) is where Nicklaus was born and raised, learned the game of golf, went to college, and where he started his own family. It was Nicklaus' vision to create a golf club that embodied his personal and professional life and to create a golf tournament that would long represent his passion for tournament golf, and would give back to a community that has embraced him and the game. This vision was fulfilled in May 1976 with the first Memorial Tournament, two years to the day after the course opened at Muirfield Village. The par-72 course was set at 7,072 yards (6,467 m), a considerable length for the mid-1970s.
Rory McIlroy, MBE (born 4 May 1989) is a Northern Irish professional golfer who is a member of both the European and PGA Tours. He was world number one in the Official World Golf Ranking for 95 weeks. He is a four-time major champion, winning the 2011 U.S Open with a tournament record lowest score under par (−16), 2012 PGA Championship with a tournament record eight strokes victory margin, 2014 Open Championship, and 2014 PGA Championship. He is the first European to win three different majors, and with Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods is one of three to win three majors by the age of 25.
He had a successful amateur career, topping the World Amateur Golf Ranking for one week as a 17-year-old in 2007. Later that year he turned professional and soon established himself on the European Tour. He had his first win on the European Tour in 2009, and on the PGA Tour in 2010. In 2011 at the age of 22, he became the youngest player ever to reach €10 million in career earnings on the European Tour. In 2012, he became the youngest player to reach $10 million in career earnings on the PGA Tour.
Eldrick Tont "Tiger" Woods (born December 30, 1975) is an American professional golfer who is among the most successful golfers of all time. He has been one of the highest-paid athletes in the world for several years.
Following an outstanding amateur and two-year college golf career, Woods turned professional at age 20 in late summer 1996. By April 1997 he had already won his first major, the 1997 Masters in a record-breaking performance, winning the tournament by 12 strokes and pocketing $486,000. He first reached the number one position in the world rankings in June 1997. Through the 2000s, Woods was the dominant force in golf, spending 264 weeks from August 1999 to September 2004 and 281 weeks from June 2005 to October 2010 as World Number One.
From December 2009 to early April 2010, Woods took leave from professional golf to focus on his marriage after he admitted infidelity, but he and his wife Elin Nordegren eventually divorced. His many extramarital indiscretions were revealed by several different women, through many worldwide media sources. This was followed by a loss of golf form, and his ranking gradually fell to a low of No. 58 in November 2011. He ended a career-high winless streak of 107 weeks when he captured the Chevron World Challenge in December 2011. After winning the Arnold Palmer Invitational on March 25, 2013, he ascended to the No.1 ranking once again, holding the top spot until May 2014. Woods had back disc surgery in April 2014, and has struggled since to regain his dominant form. By March 29, 2015, Woods had fallen to #104, outside of the top 100 for the first time since the week prior to his first Tour title win in 1996.

DUBLIN, Ohio – It's the golf equivalent of a stampede toward a $1.6 million paycheck at the Memorial Tournament and, just as important for many in this crowd, a three-year exemption on the PGA Tour. Twenty players are within four shots of the lead as the field heads into a potentially rainy final round Sunday at Muirfield Village Golf Club. Sharing the lead with 2013 Memorial winner Matt Kuchar are Gary Woodland and William McGirt, who share little in common other than a 14-under par 202. Kuchar is a lanky, 6-4 veteran who won the 2013 Memorial, has sevencareer wins and $36 million in earnings. He's appears smooth and calm as he is skinny, and has a long, solid history at Muirfield. "I love this golf course,'' he said. "This is the highlight for me of the year." He began the day with ...

MEMORIAL DAY, MIAMI BEACH, MEMORIAL DAY MIAMI, SOUTH BEACH MIAMI, MIAMI BEACH FLORIDA, Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States for remembering the people who died while serving in the country's armed forces.[1] The holiday, which is observed every year on the last Monday of May,[2] originated as Decoration Day after the American Civil War in 1868, when the Grand Army of the Republic, an organization of Union veterans founded in Decatur, Illinois, established it as a time for the nation to decorate the graves of the war dead with flowers.[3] By the 20th century, competing Union and Confederate holiday traditions, celebrated on different days, had merged, and Memorial Day eventually extended to honor all Americans who died while in the military service.[1] It typically marks t...

Tiger Woods awful start at 2015 Memorial Tournament with mess off the tee Tiger Woods, who had a terrible case of the lefts and rights off the tee to start his opening round at the Memorial, went out in 40 on his first nine at Muirfield Village. The 4-over start has him second-to-last among the group that's playing in the morning. He capped a wild left-right-left opening with a tee shot on the 18th that went completely off the course and out of bounds. The 18th is a hole with plenty of room on the right, but Woods still manage to send one off the property. His second tee shot wasn't much better, sailing way right again, but at least it stayed on the course. He went on to make a double bogey. As you can imagine, he's not particularly pleased. Woods, playing in just his fifth PGA Tour event...

Dramatic playoff - David Lingmerth wins 2015 Memorial Tournament over Justin Rose DUBLIN, Ohio – David Lingmerth, a stocky former hockey player from Sweden who owes his golf career to a Cleveland Brown, beat Justin Rose in a three-hole playoff to win the 2015 Memorial Tournament on Sunday at blustery Muirfield Village Golf Club. Lingmerth sank a six-foot par putt on the third playoff to beat Rose, who missed his fourth shot. There was little sign of nerves during the playoff from Lingmerth, ranked 212th in the world. After sinking the putt, he appeared more relieved than jubilant, but he did have a big smile. Lingmerth earned his first career PGA Tour victory, as well as $1.1 million and a three-year tour exemption. He will play in a U.S. Open qualifier Monday. Lingmerth, from Sweden b...

Tiger Woods completes Memorial in career-worst 302 strokes DUBLIN, Ohio -- Playing solo before thousands of spectators early Sunday morning, Tiger Woods tried to treat as normal as possibly a round of golf that was surreal for him and for those watching. Never before had Woods been in such a position -- first off, alone, the penalty for being last in a field of 71 players -- and left to finish off a tournament that will go down as one of his worst. Woods shot an otherwise meaningless 2-over-par 74 -- 11 strokes better than his career-worst 85 on Saturday. His last-place finish was the first time he finished in last place among players to make a cut in a tournament, according to Elias. He played the last two holes in 3-over with a double-bogey at the last -- to complete his 15th Memoria...
