Football is the most popular sport in Romania. The Romanian Football Federation (Romanian: Federaţia Română de Fotbal or FRF), a member of UEFA, is the sport's national governing body.
Professional league football began in Romania as Divizia A in 1909. The name of the top-flight league was changed to Liga I before the 2006-07 season. Currently, domestic play is organized in a four tier league system comprising Liga I, Liga II, Liga III, and various county leagues.
The country's top-flight division is Liga I. The league contains 18 teams, with the champion going in to the 3rd qualify round in the UEFA Champions League. The runner-up starts in the second qualify round in the UEFA Europa League, where the 3rd enter the first qualify round. Steaua BucureÅŸti is the most successful club in the history of Liga I, having won 23 league championships and being runner-up 12 times. Dinamo BucureÅŸti is the only other club with sustained success in Liga I, having won 18 titles. The four clubs at the bottom of the league table are relegated to Liga II.

The Romanian: Story of an Obsession is a true-to-life memoir by Bruce Benderson. The autobiographical text describes Benderson's encounters and journeys with a male Romanian street hustler through Romania and Hungary, whom he meets while on a journalism assignment and falls in love with. The plot is intertwined with a travelogue of Romania and references to Romanian history and culture, such as the life of the artist Constantin Brâncuși, the writer Panait Istrati and the love affair between Romania's interbellum king, Carol II, and his mistress, Magda Lupescu.
The book was initially published in French, in 2004, under the title Autobiographie érotique (Erotic autobiography). It won the prestigious Prix de Flore award in 2004, thus making Benderson the first US author to win the prize. In 2006, it was published in English, released in the United States and the United Kingdom.

Dinamo Bucharest midfielder Patrick Ekeng has passed away at the age of 26 after collapsing on the pitch during Friday's game against Viitorul. Ekeng came off the bench in the 62nd minute of the match, but fell to the ground seven minutes later and was immediately rushed to hospital. The Cameroonian received CPR for 90 minutes before being pronounced dead, with his passing later confirmed in a post on Dinamo Bucharest's Facebook page. Play resumed after Ekeng's collapse and the game was completed. The Romanian Football Federation announced later on Friday night that this week's matches, including the Romanian Cup final between Dinamo and CFR Cluj on Tuesday, would be postponed. The Romanian Football Federation project, dedicated to finding new talents among children of primary school from the rural areas, took place in September 2015-April 2016 in 21 counties from Romania, involving Romanian Football Federation’s regional scouters. Over 1000 primary school students from more than 120 educational facilities were part of the pilot stage of the programme. The lead character of the movie is the little footballer Ionel Băzoiu (10 years old), one of the three winners of the programme, who accompanied the FRF delegation at the European Football Championship in France.
