The Spartan Race is a 5K obstacle race that is held all over the world. On August 17, 2013 Hawaii held it's very first Spartan Race! This event took place at Kualoa Ranch which really put this race over the top. You won't get a better view anywhere else. The race had such a great turnout! The Spartan Race consists of three major variations that make up an annual "trifecta". They are:
Spartan Sprint (3 miles)
Spartan Super (8 miles)
Spartan Beast (12+ miles).
In these Spartan Race Beginner Tips, I am talking to those who have not yet completed a Spartan Race...or maybe are a bit scared to commit to their first race.
When I first signed up for my Spartan Race I was pretty darn scared (see my very first video recorded with Go Pro here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=28Tz8ZhHlV4).
A few questions that went through my mind when I signed up (that made me create this Spartan Race Beginner Tips video) were:
1. What type of GEAR do I need for my Spartan Race?
2. What type of training should I consider doing for my race?
3. Will I actually die like the disclaimer states?

A few Spartan Race Beginner tips that I recommend to get you started right:
1. Gear: get yourself good gloves and good shoes at a minimum. Also be sure to bring a change of clothes for your race as well (you'll need it).
2. TRAIN. Don't just sit on the couch. While people do things like CrossFit and the Gym, you can do some other things as well such as P90X3 and INSANITY Max 30 (or even Body Beast), which are at-home workout programs.
3. Just freaking do it! If you are like I was, you might be on the fence and bouncing back and forth whether you should run the Spartan Race or not. Trust me...just do it! It's totally worth it, and you'll not only be excited by the atmosphere at the race, but feel an incredible sense of ACCOMPLISHMENT after you cross the finish line. After all, You'll Know at the Finish Line.

Spartan race
Spartan Race is a series of obstacle races of varying distance and difficulty ranging from 3 miles to marathon distances. They are held in USA and franchised to 14 countries including Canada, many European countries, South Korea, and Australia. The series include the Spartan Sprint (3+ miles of obstacle racing, 20+ obstacles), the Super Spartan (8+ miles, 25+ obstacles), the Spartan Beast (13+ miles, 30+ obstacles), and the Ultra Beast (26+ miles, 60+ obstacles - one of two marathon obstacle courses along with Mudderthon). Spartan Race also has a military series in which obstacles are designed by the United States military. In January 2015, first ever Winter Spartan Sprint was held in Slovakia, Central Europe. For those that want a more team based experience Spartan Race has the Hurricane Heat and for the truly adventurous the Hurricane Heat 12 Hour. The Hurricane Heat takes you out of the individual role and has you work with a group of complete strangers to complete tasks designed to bring you together as a team. Those that have done the Hurricane Heat have often done multiple across the country, making friends for life along the way. ESPN describes the Spartan Race as "a true test of will."

The Spartan Race is a 5K obstacle race that is held all over the world. On August 17, 2013 Hawaii held it's very first Spartan Race! This event took place at Kualoa Ranch which really put this race over the top. You won't get a better view anywhere else. The race had such a great turnout! The Spartan Race consists of three major variations that make up an annual "trifecta". They are:
Spartan Sprint (3 miles)
Spartan Super (8 miles)
Spartan Beast (12+ miles).
In these Spartan Race Beginner Tips, I am talking to those who have not yet completed a Spartan Race...or maybe are a bit scared to commit to their first race.
When I first signed up for my Spartan Race I was pretty darn scared (see my very first video recorded with Go Pro here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=28Tz8ZhHlV4).
A few questions that went through my mind when I signed up (that made me create this Spartan Race Beginner Tips video) were:
1. What type of GEAR do I need for my Spartan Race?
2. What type of training should I consider doing for my race?
3. Will I actually die like the disclaimer states?

A few Spartan Race Beginner tips that I recommend to get you started right:
1. Gear: get yourself good gloves and good shoes at a minimum. Also be sure to bring a change of clothes for your race as well (you'll need it).
2. TRAIN. Don't just sit on the couch. While people do things like CrossFit and the Gym, you can do some other things as well such as P90X3 and INSANITY Max 30 (or even Body Beast), which are at-home workout programs.
3. Just freaking do it! If you are like I was, you might be on the fence and bouncing back and forth whether you should run the Spartan Race or not. Trust me...just do it! It's totally worth it, and you'll not only be excited by the atmosphere at the race, but feel an incredible sense of ACCOMPLISHMENT after you cross the finish line. After all, You'll Know at the Finish Line.

The Spartan Race consists of three major variations that make up an annual "trifecta". They are:
Spartan Sprint (3 miles)
Spartan Super (8 miles)
Spartan Beast (12+ miles).
In these Spartan Race Beginner Tips, I am talking to those who have not yet completed a Spartan Race...or maybe are a bit scared to commit to their first race.
When I first signed up for my Spartan Race I was pretty darn scared (see my very first video recorded with Go Pro here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=28Tz8ZhHlV4).
A few questions that went through my mind when I signed up (that made me create this Spartan Race Beginner Tips video) were:
1. What type of GEAR do I need for my Spartan Race?
2. What type of training should I consider doing for my race?
3. Will I actually die like the disclaimer states?

A few Spartan Race Beginner tips that I recommend to get you started right:
1. Gear: get yourself good gloves and good shoes at a minimum. Also be sure to bring a change of clothes for your race as well (you'll need it).
2. TRAIN. Don't just sit on the couch. While people do things like CrossFit and the Gym, you can do some other things as well such as P90X3 and INSANITY Max 30 (or even Body Beast), which are at-home workout programs.
3. Just freaking do it! If you are like I was, you might be on the fence and bouncing back and forth whether you should run the Spartan Race or not. Trust me...just do it! It's totally worth it, and you'll not only be excited by the atmosphere at the race, but feel an incredible sense of ACCOMPLISHMENT after you cross the finish line. After all, You'll Know at the Finish Line.
