The burse wants to base its growth on six pillars: a liquid equity market, a developed debt market, a competitive derivatives market, a commodity market attractive to investors, a comprehensive offer of information products for investors and issuers, and new business segments opened based on available competences.
“We believe that we can grow our business mainly by making our products and services more attractive and by tailoring them to genuine needs of our clients,” says the WSE’s President, Paweł Tamborski.

Imagine hiring a guide like Hubert with a car for $160 for 5 hours. This clip finishes as we park at Ghetto Uprising Square to see the memorial about that horrific chapter in Polish hi

25 Things to do in Warsaw, Poland | Top Attractions Tourism Guide Video Transcript:
Well hello and welcome to Warszawa. This week we are exploring the Polish capital. We've already been here a few days and it has been amazing. It has been such a pleasant surprise and unlike any part of Europe we've traveled in so far. So yeah, this week we're going to be highlighting 25 things to do around the city and we're excited to show you what it is all about.

Warsaw is quickly rising through the ranks and we think it won't be long before travellers are flocking en masse. So if you're planning a trip to Poland, don't skip over the capital because there is more to Warsaw than meets the eye.
This is part of our Travel in Poland series. We're making a series of videos showcasing Polish culture, Polish arts, Polish foods, Polish religion, Polish cuisine and Polish people.

Warsaw - Poland Travel Guide, Tourism http://goo.gl/HmkEIN
Warsaw is a large and sprawling city of more than 1.7 million people that is split into somewhat uneven halves by the Wisła (Vistula) River. Most everything of interest to visitors is on the western side of the river around the modern financial district. Its centrepiece is the landmark Palace of Culture and Science (Pałac Kultury i Nauki), a Socialist-Realist confection which can be seen from virtually anywhere in the city.
The epicentre of Warsaw for visitors is the so-called Royal Route (Trakt Królewski), which runs north-south from the New and Old Towns, past the fashionable shops of Nowy Świat, the palaces that survived the war and the royal gardens of Łazienki Park, before reaching Wilanów Palace to the south of the city centre.
Warsaw's striking Old Town may look like it dates back several centuries but the old gal has barely reached middle age. The painstakingly rebuilt area was awarded a listing on UNESCO's World Heritage List in 1980. Unmissable attractions in and around the Old Town include the Royal Castle, St John's Cathedral and the Citadel. Farther afield, make sure you visit the Warsaw Rising Museum for the story of the courageous men and women who rose up against their occupiers in WWII as well as the Palace of Culture and Science for the views.
No surprising for a city that was essentially rebuilt from the ground up after WWII, Warsaw offers an inordinate amount of green space, with leafy parks where rowing boats cruise past outdoor cafés, during the summer, and free classical concerts attract crowds in a scene far removed from the dull Communist-era images of Warsaw. And don't miss the palaces and other historical and cultural buildings in the city's splendid Łazienki and Wilanów Parks.
Warsaw's nightlife is one of the best in Eastern Europe today, with a multitude of bars and clubs scattered across the city as well as a generous dose of more highbrow entertainment such as classical music concerts and opera. Whatever you do, don't leave town without sampling the tipple of choice here in these parts: wódka (vodka). It comes in a myriad of flavours and hues - from myśliwska (`hunter's vodka'), which tastes a bit like gin, and wiśniówka (flavoured with cherries) to pieprzówka (pepper) and the famous żubrówka ('bison vodka'), which is flavoured with grass and favoured by the beasties in Bialowieza National Park). Poles traditionally drank vodka neat -- never in cocktails.
The dining options have improved no end in Warsaw, with international cuisine regularly featured alongside Polish standards. And Polish cuisine has also undergone some major transformations, lightening up old favourites with less fat and employing fresher ingredients.

ABOUT WARSAW:
Warsaw (Polish: Warszawa [varˈʂava] ( listen); see also other names), is the capital and largest city of Poland. It is located on the Vistula River, in east-central Poland, roughly 260 kilometres (160 mi) from the Baltic Sea and 300 kilometres (190 mi) from the Carpathian Mountains. Its population is estimated at 1.740 million residents within a greater metropolitan area of 2.666 million residents, which makes Warsaw the 9th most populous capital city in the European Union.[2][3][4] The city limits cover 516.9 square kilometres (199.6 sq mi), while the metropolitan area covers 6,100.43 square kilometres (2,355.39 sq mi).[5]
In 2012 Warsaw was ranked as the 32nd most liveable city in the world by the Economist Intelligence Unit.[6] It was also ranked as one of the most liveable cities in Central and Eastern Europe. Today Warsaw is considered an Alpha– global city, a major international tourist destination and a significant cultural, political and economic hub.[7][8][9] Warsaw's economy, by a wide variety of industries, is characterised by FMCG manufacturing, metal processing, steel and electronic manufacturing and food processing. The city is a significant centre of research and development, BPO, ITO, as well as Polish media industry. The Warsaw Stock Exchange is one of the largest and most important in Central Europe. Frontex, the European Union agency for external border security, is headquartered in Warsaw. Unusually for a European city, Warsaw has a prominent skyline with many skyscrapers and high-rise buildings in the city center. Warsaw is one of only a few cities in the European Union that have such a skyline, together with Frankfurt, London and Paris.
The first historical reference to Warsaw dates back to the year 1313, when initially Kraków served as the Polish capital city. Due to its central location between the Commonwealth's capitals of Kraków and Vilnius, Warsaw became the capital of the Commonwealth and the Crown of the Kingdom of Poland when King Sigismund III Vasa moved his court from Kraków to Warsaw in 1596.[10] After the Third Partition of Poland in 1795, Warsaw was incorporated into the Kingdom of Prussia. In 1806 during the Napoleonic Wars, the city became the official capital of the Grand Duchy of Warsaw, a puppet state of the First French Empire created by Napoleon Bonaparte. With accordance to the decision of the Congress of Vienna, Warsaw in 1815 was annexed by the Russian Empire and became part of the "Congress Kingdom". Only in 1918 it regained independence from the foreign rule and emerged as a new capital of the independent Republic of Poland. Along with the German invasion in 1939, the massacre of the Jewish population and deportations to concentration camps led to the uprising in the Warsaw ghetto in 1943 and to a major and devastating Warsaw Uprising between August and October 1944. For this Warsaw gained the title of the "phoenix city" because it has survived so many wars, conflicts and invasions throughout its long history. Most notably, the city had to be painstakingly rebuilt after the extensive damage it suffered in World War II, during which 85% of its buildings were destroyed.[11][12] On 9 November 1940 the city was awarded Poland's highest military decoration for heroism, the Virtuti Militari, during the Siege of Warsaw (1939).[13][14]
The city is the seat of a Roman Catholic archdiocese (left bank) and diocese (right bank of the Vistula), and possesses various universities, most notably the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Warsaw University, an opera house, theatres, museums, libraries and monuments. The historic city centre of Warsaw with its picturesque Old Town in 1980 was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Other main architectural attractions include the Castle Square with the Royal Castle and the iconic King Sigismund's Column, St. John's Cathedral, Market Square, palaces, churches and mansions all displaying a richness of colour and architectural detail. Buildings are representatives of nearly every European architectural style and historical period. Warsaw has wonderful examples of architecture from the gothic, renaissance, baroque and neoclassical periods and around a quarter of the city is filled with grand parks and royal gardens.

Warsaw is Poland's largest city and an economic, political, and cultural centre. It's a bustling metropolis harbouring an unforgettable history and today offers parkland as well as a city full of culture - you will find historic palaces and churches amongst modern architecture, while cosy cafes compete with fashionable clubs. The city's history itself is believed to have begun with the creation and development of Old Warsaw (Stara Warszawa), which was set on what is today known as the Old Town (Stare Miasto). Mazovian Prince Bolesław II brought prosperous traders to the Old Town, and his headquarters were based there. Warsaw is also known for its famous musical resident, Fryderyk Chopin, who for the first half of his 39 years, was associated with Warsaw. It was in Warsaw that he studied music, where he was formally educated, and where his heart found its final resting place. The last time Chopin played a concert in Warsaw was in October of 1830, at the National Theatre. He died on October 17, 1849 and was buried at the Père Lachaise cemetery in Paris. His heart, however, came back to Warsaw -- it was his most fervent desire to have his heart buried in Warsaw -- and it now lies in the Holy Cross Church (kościół św. Krzyża) on Krakowskie Przedmieście Street.

When visiting Warsaw, check out the following places:
Łazienki Królewskie Park-Palace Complex:
The park and palace complex at Łazienki is one of the most beautiful of this type in Europe. Established in the 17th century, the landscape gardens feature many interesting architectural monuments, especially the Palace on the Island built for King Stanislaw August Poniatowski -- Poland's last monarch. It served as his summer residence and was famous for the Thursday dinners.
Wilanów Park-Palace Complex:
The summer residence of King Jan III Sobieski and then Augustus II as well as subsequent aristocratic families. It stands as an excellent representation of European Baroque at its height and a homage to the former greatness of the Republic. The palace is surrounded by a grandiose, two level Baroque Italian garden and a romantic park in an English style. Wilanów is the venue of important cultural events and concerts. The former stables house the Poster Museum.
Palace of Culture and Science:
Completed in 1955 as a 'gift from the Soviet people', the building is the embodiment of Socialist Realist architecture. It is still the tallest building in Poland and fulfils the role of a cultural centre accommodating theatres, museums, a cinema and a concert hall. The highest viewing platform in Warsaw, on the 30th foor, offers an excellent panoramic view of the city.
Warsaw Rising Museum:
Opened in 2004, on the 60th anniversary of the outbreak of the Warsaw Uprising, the museum pays tribute to all those who fought and died for their country's independence. Housed in a former tramway power station, the modern museum guides visitors through interactive displays, video footage and photographs.
National Museum:
The museum contains a rich collection of exhibits from antiquity to modern times. The building originates from the inter-war period. During the World War II it secretly stored some of the Royal Castle treasures. It organizes numerous temporary exhibitions presenting art from all over the world. The Vistula-side building wing is the Museum of the Polish Army presenting the history of Polish military featuring an interesting outdoor exhibition.
Warsaw Zoological Garden:
Established in 1928, the garden is now inhabited by several thousand animals, yet the real personalities of the Warsaw Zoo are the brown bears whose area is located outside the garden, near Solidarności Avenue, and can be viewed by passers-by.
University of Warsaw Library:
The facade of the building, which resembles a line of open books, is one of the most interesting examples of contemporary architecture in Warsaw. The roof garden is open to the public.
Places related to Fryderyk Chopin:
Fryderyk Chopin is undoubtedly the best known resident of Warsaw. He spent the first 20 years of his life in the city. Here he studied music, learned the manners of society and gave his first concerts. Walking the streets of Warsaw you will pass buildings where he stayed or which he visited. There are many places which are a homage paid to his talent and Warsaw boasts the world's largest Chopin memorabilia collection.

Warsaw, Poland Travel Guide - See Attractions - Travel Poland 2015

The first historical reference to Warsaw dates back to the year 1313, when initially Kraków served as the Polish capital city. Due to its central location between the Commonwealth's capitals of Kraków and Vilnius, Warsaw became the capital of the Commonwealth and the Crown of the Kingdom of Poland when King Sigismund III Vasa moved his court from Kraków to Warsaw in 1596. After the Third Partition of Poland in 1795, Warsaw was incorporated into the Kingdom of Prussia. For this Warsaw gained the title of the "Phoenix City" because it has survived many wars, conflicts and invasions throughout its long history. Most notably, the city had to be painstakingly rebuilt after the extensive damage it suffered in World War II, during which 85% of its buildings were destroyed. On 9 November 1940, the city was awarded Poland's highest military decoration for heroism, the Virtuti Militari, during the Siege of Warsaw (1939). (wikipedia)

Come to Dubai, the ancient City of Gold, for your next vacation.
Modernity and antiquity collide in this vibrant city. Shop at the same spice market locals have been visiting for generations, then visit the stores in the Gold Souk, a jewelry-centered traditional marketplace. For a more modern shopping experience, go to the Dubai Mall, home to over 1200 stores, an underwater zoo, and KidZania®, a “city” where children can roleplay various careers.
To soak up some of the legendary Dubai sunshine, simply step outside. Take in the view of the city from the observation deck of the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world. Continue your Dubai tour by wandering through the exotic buildings and resorts, or visit some of the public beaches. If you’d like to try something a little different and don’t mind paying a small fee, you can also attend local hotel beaches even if you aren’t staying there.
You can’t finish your Dubai sightseeing without a trip into the desert itself. Ride a camel, go sandboarding, or just stand out on the dunes and marvel at the beauty of it all.

Your trip to Moscow, Russia is bound to be a special one. From the multicolored spires of St. Basil’s Cathedral to the sturdy red walls of the Kremlin, there is much to see and do in this stunning city.
Named after the Moskva River—which flows through the city—Moscow has long been at the forefront of the creative world. Tour Moscow to follow in the footsteps of Tolstoy and Chekhov, among others, and join in the sense of pride Russia feels for its literary tradition. Moscow has named a number of its parks and open spaces after its poets and authors, so take a break at the fountain in Pushkin Square, or rest beneath the leafy trees in Gorky Park. When you’ve gotten your fill of literary splendor, head to the Memorial Museum of Cosmonauts, where you can learn about the Soviet Union’s efforts to reach the stars and the epic space race that lasted from 1955 to 1972.
Moscow is a city of creativity and innovation, but is also very much aware of its own history; as such, a haunting part of any Moscow sightseeing is a visit to the Fallen Monument Park. After the fall of the Soviet Union, countless statues and monuments were removed from their pedestals and moved to this park. Over the years, more modern artwork and sculptures have been added, turning the park into a strange, yet peaceful graveyard of former icons.
What is your favorite part of Moscow?

Welcome to Copenhagen, Denmark! This stunning place is also called “The City of Spires,” and after arriving here, you’ll see why.
A tour of Copenhagen reveals cobblestone streets, beautiful canals, and many 16th and 17th-century buildings crowned by the aforementioned spires. Don’t let the archaic exterior of these buildings fool you; they house very modern restaurants, theaters, and shops, and you can easily spend days sampling seafood and coffees at the various eateries.
One of Copenhagen’s most beloved attractions is Tivoli Gardens, a theme park that dates back to 1843. Watch a pantomime, ride one of the oldest roller coasters, or just enjoy a trip in a dragon boat. After a few hours at Tivoli Gardens, continue your Copenhagen sightseeing in the city proper. Copenhagen is like something out of a fairy tale, full of multicolored houses and boats that tie up at Copenhagen’s wharves.
Next, rent a bike. With almost 250 miles of bicycle lanes, getting around two wheels is a healthy, athletic way to get to know the city. Ride your bike to Nyhavn, a waterfront district that dates back to the 17th century. This is the spot to make friends at the local pubs, or to simply sit and watch the boats go back and forth over the waters of the Oresund. Nyhavn is also home to “The Little Mermaid,” a statue fashioned after the titular character in the Hans Christian Andersen tale. Make sure you bring your camera, as the mermaid is a popular place for a photo op.

Driving down a boulevard with an ongoing explanation of everything I was seeing, I was inspired to pull out my little camera and make a video clip to share with you the delight of having your own private tour guide. Imagine hiring a guide like Hubert with a car for $160 for 5 hours. This clip finishes as we park at Ghetto Uprising Square to see the memorial about that horrific chapter in Polish history, and a sparkling new museum celebrating Polish Jews. And with Hubert as my guide, I had the best teacher a traveler could want.

Warsaw - Poland Travel Guide, Tourism http://goo.gl/HmkEIN
Hundreds of new shops have sprung up all over Warsaw since the political transformations of 1989. There are also licensed and illegal street vendors that offer wares ranging from cloth napkins, wooden sculptures, cooking pots and freshly picked mushrooms.
Key areas:
The main shopping streets areas lie in the maze of streets between the Palace of Culture and Science and swanky Ulica Nowy Świat. The eastern end of Aleje Jerozolimskie and the southern part of Ulica Marszałkowska are also god bets. Check out the restored Ulica Chmielna too.
Markets:
With the demise of one of Europe's largest flea markets, known locally as the Russian Market, Warsaw's market scene is a little bare. There are still a few spots worth visiting, however, such as Bazar na Kole (Ulica Obozowa) in the western reaches of the city, which has mountains of junk and antiques to sift through, ranging from CDs and old postcards to farm implements and WWII relics.
Shopping centres:
Shopping arcades, both in and outside of Warsaw, have become very popular, including Galeria Centrum, Ulica Marszalkowska 104/122, the biggest department store in the capital; Arkadia, Aleja Jana Pawla II 82; and the very central Złote Tarasy, Ulica Złota 59. These malls and stores have both national and internationally known brands including H&M;, Levi's and Zara, and often in-house cinemas and restaurants.
Opening hours:
Shops in Warsaw are generally open Monday to Friday 1000/1100-1800/2000 and Saturday 1000-1300/1600. Usually open seven days a week, Warsaw's shopping centres and hypermarkets are the best places to stock up on Polish staples - such as pickled herring, preserved meats and, last but not least, vodka.
Souvenirs:
More than any thing else, arts and crafts are the main things to shop for on a visit to Warsaw. Particularly popular items that are widely available include glass and enamelware, hand-woven rugs, silverware, jewellery made with silver, dolls in regional costumes, woodcarvings and clay and metal sculptures.
Probably the best spots in Warsaw for souvenir hunting are in the Old Town, among the colourful facades and artists' stalls. But the nationwide chain Cepelia, with four branches in the capital, including one at Ulica Marszałkowska 99/101, is a good place to start - its shops stock a good range of local handicrafts. Another much-loved item available widely is amber from the Baltic Sea. This can be sold in many forms, from large lumps to exquisitely carved necklaces. For art, bric-a-brac, curios and the odd real antique check out the chain of shops called Desa Unicum; its most central outlet is at Ulica Marszałkowska 34/50. Bear in mind that the export of anything produced up until the end of WW11 in 1945 is strictly controlled (though the people at Desa Unicum are very familiar with the procedures and will help with the necessary paperwork).
Tax information:
Tax-free shopping in Warsaw is available to non-EU residents spending a minimum of €175 or equivalent in one transaction at participating outlets. Cash refunds are given out at airports on presentation of the tax free documents.

Warsaw - Poland Travel Guide, Tourism http://goo.gl/HmkEIN
As Warsaw has become increasingly tourist friendly over the years, it has made allowances for various travellers by opening several budget and mid-range hotels, thereby completing the range between 5-star travel and student hostels. Please note that, with the exception of the lower budget hotels and hostels, prices for rooms are generally usually quoted in euros.
The Warsaw hotels below have been grouped into three pricing categories:
Luxury (over €160)
Moderate (€60 to €160)
Cheap (up to €60)
These prices are based on the lowest standard rates for a double room, excluding taxes and excluding breakfast, unless otherwise specified.
Mamaison Hotel Le Regina Warsaw
Mamaison Hotel Le Regina Warsaw is a cut above the competition. Located just north of the Old Town in a quiet neighbourhood, it's housed in a gorgeous 18th-century palace and filled with period furniture. But the hotel is modern where it counts, with sparkling new bathrooms and Wi-Fi connection throughout. Rooms are bright, breezy and decorated in eye-catching chocolate and beige.
Le Méridien Bristol
Dating back to 1899 and just a few minutes' walk from the Old Town Square, this member of the Leading Hotels of the World retains its old-world ambience and style remarkably well. The rooms are decorated in muted tones with period-style wooden furniture and benefit from sweeping high ceilings. The lobby contains several boutiques, a cigar store and a newsagent. The Marconi Restaurant, one of the hotel's two restaurants, offers a delicious all-you-can-eat Sunday brunch, while the hotel's super café serves exquisite desserts.
Radissson Blu Centrum Hotel Warsaw
The rooms at this top-class hotel offer a choice of three styles of décor ranging from `Maritime' and `Scandinavian' to `Italian'. Each style differs through its colour scheme, furniture and layout. The Italian style is most whimsical. Staff are accommodating, and there's a first-rate fitness centre in the basement, featuring a pool, fitness machines plus massage and beauty services.
Harenda Hotel
A well-priced accommodation in the heart of Warsaw, Harenda offers simple rooms equipped with a TV and safe. The lobby is welcoming and once you've checked in, you can climb the large wide staircase to find your room. Note that some of the rooms/suites have been rented out for business purposes (eg doctors' offices) and that some singles are on the small size. The hotel entrance is off Krakowskie-Przedmiescie to the left; you're really paying for the location here.
Maria Hotel
Away from the city centre, but handy to the city's Jewish sights and just a few tram stops from the Old Town, Maria Hotel is a small, family-run and family-friendly hotel with modern amenities and a decent restaurant on the premises. Rooms are generally big, bright, and airy, and all are en suite. It's in a rambling old house with rooms set over three floors (no lift) with atmosphere in spades and a friendly, welcoming staff.
Castle Inn
Castle Inn Oki Doki has plenty going for it. It's the only hotel within the limits of Warsaw's Old Town, is stumbling distance from the Royal Castle, and is housed in a 17th-century tenement house that miraculously survived WWII. Rooms (most of which are 3-star, a handful 4) are colourful ensembles, each sporting a unique and playful theme, such as 'Alice in Wonderland' or 'Oriental Express'. `Viktor' is named after a reclusive street artist, complete with artsy graffiti.

Warsaw - Poland Travel Guide, Tourism http://goo.gl/HmkEIN
Warsaw has become the epicurean epicentre of Poland inrecent years, and the city now offers an assortment of cuisines to suit all budgets, tastes and objectives. And whether the point is just lounging, power-brokering, romancing or delighting in something gastronomically unique, you'll find it all here.
Note that there is a whole lot more to polish food than just kielbasa (Polish sausage) and sauerkraut! Polish cuisine is rich in meat and game, thick soups and sauces proliferate, and potatoes and dumplings are abundant. Every meal in Poland begins with soup such as barszcz, a red beetroot soup. Be sure to try pierogi - 'Polish ravioli' - stuffed with a whole range of fillings.. They are usually boiled and then served doused in melted butter. Another speciality is gołąbki, cabbage leaves stuffed with beef, onion and rice and baked in tomato sauce.
If you need a quick bite and don't want to sit down, try a zapiekanka, a 'Polish pizza' made up of half a stale baguette split lengthwise and topped with melted cheese, chopped mushrooms and ketchup and best (or only) eaten after a heavy night on the town.
The Warsaw restaurants below have been grouped into three pricing categories:
Expensive (over ZL120)
Moderate (ZL40 to ZL120)
Cheap (up to ZL40)
These prices are based on an average three-course meal for one person. Tax is usually included in the price of the food and gratuity should be included at your discretion; 10% is adequate.
Gessler Restauracja U Kucharzy
Price: Expensive
One of Warsaw's finest restaurants and dating back to the year before WWII broke out, Gessler Restauracja U Kucharzy serves peerless traditional Polish dishes and international favourites in a delightful restaurant set inside the kitchen of an elegant old hotel. Dress is smart and dining quite formal in the evening. For a more relaxed meal, come at lunch or on Sunday when there is a demonstration of noodle-making.
Address: Ulica Ossolińskich 7., Warsaw, Poland
Boathouse
Price: Expensive
This highly rated Warsaw restaurant is pleasantly placed on the banks of the Vistula River north of the Old Town. Its nautical theme extends not only to the décor but also the menu, where the range of Mediterranean-style dishes leans heavily in the direction of Italian cuisine. In summer there's no better place to be than on the Boathouse's large terrace, with a seafood platter, glass of wine and live jazz in the background.
Address: Wał Miedzeszyński 389a, Warsaw, Poland
Roma
Price: Moderate
An intimate space with only nine tables, Roma delights customers with fresh pasta and meat dishes. In spite of the bijou cosy space and green plants in the big window, the atmosphere is more conducive to laughter and fun than a romantic evening out. There are two other Romas in Warsaw, but this was the first (dating back to 1988) and it's the best. Reservations strongly suggested.
Address: Ulica Grottgera 2, Warsaw, Poland
Warsaw Tortilla Factory
Price: Moderate
What started as a mission to fill a gaping culinary hole in the late 990s resulted in a Tex-Mex Warsaw institution, beloved by expats and locals alike. The tortillas are indeed authentic -- though made in Poland - and the burritos are both filling and scrumptious. Informal and friendly setting. It's likely to be the only place in Warsaw where you can choose how spicy you want your hot sauce to be.
Address: Ulica Wilcza 46, Warsaw, Poland
Krokiecik
Price: Cheap
The tradition of 'milk bars' ( bar mleczny ) in Poland is fading slowly, as it's no longer easy for the government to subsidise cheap food in prime locations that could make a lot more money. That said, places like Krokiecik fill in the gap, as it's best considered a tasty, clean, bright and modern 'milk bar', in spite of being privately owned. Self-service allows you to choose from an array of home-cooked Polish food.
Address: Ulica Zgoda 1, Warsaw, Poland
Coffee Karma
Price: Cheap
This popular café overlooks Warsaw's circular Plac Zbawiciela, one of the few remnants of Socialist architecture extant in the city. Its coffee is strong, its smoothies creamy and thick, and its light snacks run the gamut from healthy sandwiches to home-made cakes and cookies. Take a seat inside on winter days or grab a table outdoors in the warm summer months.
Address: Plac Zbawiciela 3/5, Warsaw, Poland

Muzeum Pawilon-X (Block 10 Museum)
Housed in the Citadel, a solid 19th-century fortress northwest of the Old Town and overlooking the Vistula, this Warsaw museum was once used as a prison for political enemies of the Russian czars. The lucky inmates were shipped to labour camps in Siberia; the less fortunate were executed at Brama Straceń (Gate of Execution) on the prison grounds. The original cells are still standing and labelled with some of the prison's more famous residents, and paintings by Alexander Sochaczewski, a former inmate transported to Siberia with 20,000 other anti-Russian insurgents in the mid-19th century, adorn the walls.
Opening Times: Wed-Sun 0900-1600.
Admission Fees: Yes
Disabled Access: Yes
Unesco: No
Address: Ulica Skazańców 25, Warsaw, Poland
Muzeum Powstania Warszawskiego (Warsaw Rising Museum)
The Warsaw Rising Museum is a must-see for those with any interest in history and tales of bravery and self-sacrifice. In order to get a taste of what life in Warsaw must have been like for Varsovians during WWII, this thoroughly comprehensive museum shows examples of how residents resisted the German forces through film footage, photographs, recorded interviews, life-size dioramas, soundscapes and informative plaques, written in both Polish and English. Cityscape pictures pinpointing the handful of buildings that survived WWII are located on the museum's elevated viewing platform; they are a grim reminder of the destruction wrought by the Nazis on Warsaw.
Opening Times: Mon, Wed and Fri 0800-1800, Thurs 0800-2000, Sat-Sun 1000-1800.
Admission Fees: Yes
Disabled Access: Yes
Unesco: No
Address: Ulica Przyokopowej 28, Warsaw, Poland
Muzeum Więzienia Pawiak (Pawiak Prison Museum)
This eerie old prison symbolises the oppression that has dogged Warsaw over the last two centuries. Originally built in 1839 at the order of the czar, the prison counted among its inmates many victims of the Nazi reign of terror from 1939 to1944, when it served as the largest political prison in Poland.

A third of the estimated 100,000 detainees never made it out alive. The Nazis tried to dynamite the evidence of their crimes as they fled but Pawiak and its exhibits stand as a testament to Warsaw's seemingly endless ability to suffer and survive.

Warsaw Adventure offers a pleasant and relaxing cruise on the Vistula River between May and September. The river is a great place from which to see the sights while sipping a beer. Expect to meet the symbol of Warsaw -- the mermaid -- while on board.
Bus tours

Pick up for tours is from a variety of city hotels. Do-it-yourself tour son public transport include bus 180, operating between Powązki Cemetery and Wilanów, and bus 100, which passes by the Old Town, Citadel and Warsaw Rising Museum.
Driving tours
Visitors can take a trip around the Old Town in dorozki, a horse-drawn hackney cab. These are run by individuals, licensed by the city, and wait for passengers at the Old Town Square. An outfit with the unusual name of the Workshop of Unusual Travels - PiPiN for short - offers vintage car and bicycle tours of Warsaw's major sites as well as some of its lesser-known spots off the beaten track.
Walking tours
Trakt Guide and Travel Agency offers personalised English-speaking tour guides, while Our Roots specialises in tours of the city's Jewish sites. Excursions from Warsaw
Kampinoski Park Narodowy (Kampinoski National Park)
Kampinoski National Park, with walking trails, education centre and abundant wildlife, begins at Warsaw's northwestern border and stretches west for about 40km (25 miles). One of its major features is its inland sand dunes, which stand in stark contrast to the surrounding peat bogs. The park is open from dawn to dusk and admission is free. Reach it by bus from the central station, Warszawa Zachodnia, Aleje Jerozolimskie 144.
Toruń
This UNESCO World Heritage walled medieval town is where the 16th century astronomer and mathematician Mikolaj Kopernik (Copernicus) was born. Picturesque pathways along the Vistula River lead to the ruins of the 13th-century castle of the Teutonic Knights; the gothic townhouse where Copernicus was born is located at Ulica Kopernika 17. The city is 227km (141 miles) northwest of Warsaw and can be reached by train from Warszawa Centralna station in three hours.
Zelazowa Wola
This tiny village 54km (34 miles) west of Warsaw is where the great composer Frédéric Chopin was born in 1810. A museum dedicated to him is located in his family's manor house. Żelazowa Wola is located inside Kampinoski National Park and can be reached by bus from the main station, Warszawa Zachodnia, Aleje Jerozolimskie 144. Both Mazurkas Travel and Polish Landscape offer day trips here from the major hotels in Warsaw.
Łódź
This somewhat gritty city-- it's pronounced `wooch - located 140km (87 miles) southwest of Warsaw, hides a treasure trove of palatial mansions, art nouveau public buildings and museums. By all means, visit the vanguard art galleries but the Central Museum of Textiles in an early 19th-century spinning mill is where the city's heart lies and the Jewish Quarter is worth a stroll around.
