The Garden Of The Master Of The Nets is somewhat smaller, nevertheless it is considered to be a gem of Chinese garden design that dates back to the 12th century.Founded by Abbot Xu Taishi in the 16th century, The Garden Of Rest is also one of the country's most beautiful gardens. The Chinese garden is full of complex history and art that manifests itself as a sanctuary of simple harmony and peace and nowhere is this more true than in the gardens of Suzhou.

Suzhou (Chinese: 苏州; pinyin: Sūzhōu; Suzhou dialect: [səu tsøʏ]), previously transliterated as Su-chou, Suchow, and Soochow, is a major city located in the southeast of Jiangsu Province in Eastern China, located adjacent to Shanghai Municipality. The city is situated on the lower reaches of the Yangtze River and on the shores of Taihu Lake and is a part of the Yangtze River Delta region. Administratively, Suzhou is a prefecture-level city with an urban population of over 4 million expanding to over 10 million in the administrative area.
Originally founded in 514 BCE, Suzhou has over 2,500 years of rich history, and relics of the past are abundant to this day. The city's canals, stone bridges, pagodas, and meticulously designed gardens have contributed to its status as one of the top tourist attractions in China. Since the Song Dynasty (960-1279), it has also been an important centre for China's silk industry. The classical gardens in Suzhou were added to the list of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1997 and 2000. Suzhou is often dubbed the "Venice of the East" or "Venice of China".

Being a "train buff" for many years I have been totally fascinated by the evolution of high speed trains around the world. I can still remember being on a bicycle tour inFrance in the '80 and seeing a test run of a TGV (Train a Grand Vitesse) for the first time. I was hooked from that point on. Most recently I had the pleasure on riding on the Shinkansen in Japan so I was eager se what CHR (Chinese High Speed Rail_had to offer - I was not disappointed. From Wikipedia: High-speed rail (HSR) in China refers to any railway in China with commercial train service at the speed of 200 km/h (124 mph) or higher. By that measure, China has the world's longest HSR network with over 16,000 km (9,900 mi) of track in service as of December 2014[1] which is more than the rest of the world's high speed rail tracks combined. China's high speed rail system also includes the world's longest line, the 2,298 km (1,428 mi) Beijing–Guangzhou High-Speed Railway.[2] Since high-speed rail service in China was introduced on April 18, 2007, daily ridership has grown from 237,000 in 2007[3] to 2.49 million in 2014,[4] making the Chinese HSR network the most heavily used in the world.[5][6] The nationwide HSR network, which extends to 28 of the country's 33 provinces and regions, consists mainly of conventional track railways including upgraded mixed passenger and freight lines, newly-built passenger designated lines (PDLs) and intercity lines.[7] There is also the Shanghai Maglev, the world's first high-speed commercial magnetic levitation (maglev) line, which is owned and operated by the Shanghai municipality government. Nearly all high-speed rail lines and rolling stock are owned and operated by the China Railway Corporation, the state enterprise formerly known as the Railway Ministry. Over the past decade, the country has undergone an HSR building boom with generous funding from the Chinese government's economic stimulus program. The pace of high-speed rail expansion slowed for a period in 2011 after the removal of Chinese Railways Minister Liu Zhijun for corruption and a fatal high-speed railway accident near Wenzhou, but has since rebounded. Concerns about HSR safety, high ticket prices, low ridership, financial sustainability of high-speed rail projects and environmental impact have drawn greater scrutiny from the Chinese press.[8] China's early high-speed trains were imported or built under technology transfer agreements with foreign train-makers including Alstom, Siemens, Bombardier and Kawasaki Heavy Industries. Chinese engineers then re-designed internal train components and built indigenous trains that can reach operational speeds of up to 380 km/h (240 mph).[9][10] -

Being a "train buff" for many years I have been totally fascinated by the evolution of high speed trains around the world. I can still remember being on a bicycle tour inFrance in the '80 and seeing a test run of a TGV (Train a Grand Vitesse) for the first time. I was hooked from that point on. I can still remember being on a bicycle tour inFrance in the '80 and seeing a test run of a TGV (Train a Grand Vitesse) for the first time. I was hooked from that point on. High-speed rail (HSR) in China refers to any railway in China with commercial train service at the speed of 200 km/h (124 mph) or higher. By that measure, China has the world's longest HSR network with over 16,000 km (9,900 mi) of track in service as of December 2014[1] which is more than the rest of the world's high speed rail tracks combined. China's high speed rail system also includes the world's longest line, the 2,298 km (1,428 mi) Beijing–Guangzhou High-Speed Railway.[2]
Since high-speed rail service in China was introduced on April 18, 2007, daily ridership has grown from 237,000 in 2007[3] to 2.49 million in 2014,[4] making the Chinese HSR network the most heavily used in the world.[5][6]

The pace of high-speed rail expansion slowed for a period in 2011 after the removal of Chinese Railways Minister Liu Zhijun for corruption and a fatal high-speed railway accident near Wenzhou, but has since rebounded. Concerns about HSR safety, high ticket prices, low ridership, financial sustainability of high-speed rail projects and environmental impact have drawn greater scrutiny from the Chinese press.[8]
China's early high-speed trains were imported or built under technology transfer agreements with foreign train-makers including Alstom, Siemens, Bombardier and Kawasaki Heavy Industries. In the centre of the city's labyrinth-like shopping alleys a zigzag bridge extends across a small pond to a famous tea house. The bridge was designed in order to fend off evil spirits who, it was believed, could walk only in a straight line!
Located in the countryside, Suzhou is above all famous for its gardens. The 'Garden of the Policy of the Common People' is one of China's four most famous gardens. The complex was built between 1522 and 1566 at the command of an important mandarin and designed according to his wishes.
South of Suzhou is Zhou Zhuang, that is said to have been the first water village in China. A journey on its canals is certainly worthwhile, as the surrounding area is covered with thousands of canals and rivers and where many villages in the area are only accessible by boat.
Shanghai and its surrounding area has now freed itself from its early growing pains and from the restrictions imposed by Chairman Mao and today enjoys the rich rewards of capitalism.

Close by is Harbor Centre, a modern skyscraper complex with a shopping centre and a Skylift to the top floor. A glass elevator transports visitors to a 167-metre high observation platform where the view across the city, harbor and bay is overwhelming.
The exciting Skytrain is the city's most popular means of transport, an ultra-modern train built on posts that zig zags its way through the city. Each of the city's most important destinations are easily accessible and it has reduced the city's traffic problems considerably.
For the World Exhibition of 1986, on the edge of Chinatown, gardeners and craftsmen from Suzhou, China established Canada's first classical Chinese garden, the Doctor Sun Yat Sen Garden. Its ponds, bridges and small pavilions are similar to those in China, masterpieces of Far Eastern garden design.

China is known for its silk and Suzhou is most famous place for silk producing. This tour takes you to the No.1 Silk Factory in Suzhou founded in 1926 as a state-owned factory. With this tour, firstly you can get the knowledge of the whole life of a silkworm.
What is so amazing about the silk-making process is that the silkworm creates its cocoon out of a single silk thread that is continuous for approximately 3,600 feet. Among the processes, making cocoons to skeins is especially important. The workers operate machines that spin the silk filaments into skeins. One cocoon is attached to each spindle. This makes it better understood why the filament of each cocoon must be unbroken. Then you will see how the people produce silk with the old style machine, and the making process of hand made silk quilt. You can testify that these quilts are light as a feather and very warm and buy one if you like it.
