La legendaria ciudad de Tikal será la primero que veamos en la segunda parte del documental "Guatemala. Corazón del Mundo Maya". Descubriremos con asombro que en su época de esplendor esta región estaba habitada por varios millones de personas y que a pesar de carecer de herramientas de metal ni de ingenios como la polea o incluso la rueda, pudiesen realizar tamaños colosos arquitectónicos.
Cerca de allí conoceremos el lago Peten Itza y la Isla de Flores donde se halla la capital del departamento del Petén.
Nuestro recorrido prosigue por la Sierra de las Minas. Allí sabremos que en el valle del río Motagua los Mayas extraían algo muy especial para ellos: el jade. En un taller de la Antigua Guatemala veremos como se sigue trabajando el jade para tallar joyas y esculturas, y en su museo disfrutaremos con los trabajos de los antiguos Mayas.
Entre la ribera del río Motagua y las faldas de la Sierra de las Minas hallamos la mítica Ciudad de las Estelas, Quiriguá, uno de los sitios arqueológicos más importantes de América. En Quirigua se encuentran los ejemplares más importantes de las estelas mayas, piedras esculpidas donde registraban sus acontecimientos más destacados.

Como es frecuente el caso con grandes ruinas antiguas, el conocimiento del sitio nunca se perdió completamente en la región. Algunos apuntes de segunda o tercera mano aparecen impresos comenzando en el siglo XVII, y continuando con los escritos de John Lloyd Stephens a principios del siglo XIX. Debido a lo remoto que se encuentra de las ciudades modernas, sin embargo, ninguna expedición científica visitó Tikal sino hasta 1848. Fue reportada en 1848, por Modesto Méndez y Ambrosio Tut, corregidor y gobernador de Petén, respectivamente.
Eusebio Lara acompañó esta primera expedición para elaborar las primeras ilustraciones de los monumentos. Muchas otras expediciones llegaron para seguir investigando, dibujando mapas, y fotografiando Tikal en los siglos XIX y XX.
En 1853, posterior a la publicación del diario de Méndez en la Gaceta de Guatemala, se da a conocer a la comunidad científica el descubrimiento, en una publicación de la Academia de Ciencias de Berlín.
En 1951 se construyó una pequeña pista de aterrizaje cerca de las ruinas, que anteriormente sólo podían ser alcanzadas luego de varios días de viaje a través de la selva a pie o en mula. De 1956 a 1970 se hicieron importantes excavaciones arqueológicas por parte de la Universidad de Pensilvania. En 1979 el gobierno guatemalteco inició un proyecto arqueológico en Tikal, que continúa hasta el día de hoy.
Las ruinas de Tikal, como parte del Parque Nacional Tikal, fueron el primer sitio arqueológico en ser declarado Patrimonio de la Humanidad en 1979, y así mismo, el primer Patrimonio de la Humanidad mixto, (ecológico y arqueológico), del mundo. El sitio puede ser visitado por el público, todos los días del año, una carretera asfaltada de 76 km comunica a Tikal con Flores, la principal ciudad del Petén.
Tikal fue usada como escenario de la base rebelde en la película Star Wars y es el modelo de la ciudad Maya en la película de Mel Gibson, Apocalypto.

12:16 Jen didn't need to use the 3 AP's to call an Archaeologist and then move him twice to setup the camp... you can setup a camp anywhere even if there's no Archaeologist in the tile...
so Jen just wasted 2 AP's, not 3 because she will always have to spend 1 AP to call the Archaeologist to the camp, be it the first or the new one

- Estoy seguro que sin lugar a dudas, Tikal es un sitio que deja una profunda huella en cada uno de sus visitantes, incluso las sensaciones y emociones percibidas aquí, uno se las lleva a casa y jamás las olvida.
- Este fue mi primer sitio Maya explorado el 3 de abril del 2003, tenía años deseando visitar un sitio Maya, cualquiera! y una vez que lo conseguí y regrese a casa, recuerdo que fui con mi hermano Jaime y le regrese su cámara fotográfica digital que me había prestado y le pedí que me imprimiera las fotos, un par de días después me dio la noticia de que por error había borrado todas las fotos y disculpándose espero mi reacción, que creo pensó sería de enojo, con una sonrisa le dije, Jaime, me gusto tanto Tikal, que sé que voy a regresar, así es que no te preocupes, regrese en diciembre de ese mismo año, ya que había descubierto mi gran pasión de exploración de sitios Mayas y además, que Tikal es un lugar al que uno regresará en cada oportunidad posible, es difícil de explicar, lo mismo siento por Palenque y por esa razón, son los 2 sitios Mayas que más he visitado.
- Tikal es una de las máximas expresiones de la civilización Maya, ya que contiene una de las arquitecturas más monumentales y colosales.
- Fue Ambrosio Tut quien a la distancia diviso las cresterías de sus templos en 1848 y le informo de su hallazgo al gobernador del Petén, Modesto Méndez, ese mismo año planearon ellos 2 su primera exploración a Tikal.
- Después de eso, fueron varios los exploradores famosos los que lo visitaron, entre ellos destaca Alfred Percival Maudslay, Teobert Maler y Sylvanus Morley, de hecho fue T. Maler el que dejo su nombre grabado para la posteridad en una de la entradas de la acrópolis.
- Tikal sin lugar a dudas fue el sitio Maya más poderoso junto con su gran enemigo Calakmul.
- Tikal o Mutal, que es su nombre original, es uno de los sitios Mayas más estudiados y de los que más información se adquirido debido en parte a su gran cantidad de estelas y grabados que nos dieron como resultado un gran proceso dinástico.
- En cuanto arquitectura se refiere, no cabe duda que Tikal es masivo y son sus templos 1 al 6 los que demuestran que en su pleno apogeo y lleno de colores, debió haber sido un gran impacto inicial para sus visitantes y prisioneros.
- El ascenso a los templos 1, 3 y 6 está prohibido, solo se pueden ascender el templo 2, 4 y 5, todos ellos gracias a una escalera de madera aledaña a los escalones principales, esto permite que podamos tener una vista sorprendente de la selva y los demás templos, una vez que se llega a la cima.
- Espero disfruten ampliamente este documental de 2 partes y ojala les deje aunque sea un poco de lo que a mí me dejo, su belleza es impactante.

Tikal (or Tik’al according to the modern Mayan orthography) is one of the largest archaeological sites and urban centres of the pre-Columbian Maya civilization. It is located in the archaeological region of the Petén Basin in what is now northern Guatemala. Situated in the department of El Petén, the site is part of Guatemala's Tikal National Park and in 1979 it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Tikal was the capital of a conquest state that became one of the most powerful kingdoms of the ancient Maya. Though monumental architecture at the site dates back as far as the 4th century BC, Tikal reached its apogee during the Classic Period, ca. 200 to 900 AD. During this time, the city dominated much of the Maya region politically, economically, and militarily, while interacting with areas throughout Mesoamerica such as the great metropolis of Teotihuacan in the distant Valley of Mexico. There is evidence that Tikal was conquered by Teotihuacan in the 4th century AD. Following the end of the Late Classic Period, no new major monuments were built at Tikal and there is evidence that elite palaces were burned. These events were coupled with a gradual population decline, culminating with the site’s abandonment by the end of the 10th century.

De 1956 a 1970 se hicieron importantes excavaciones arqueológicas por parte de la Universidad de Pensilvania. En 1979 el gobierno guatemalteco inició un proyecto arqueológico en Tikal, que continúa hasta el día de hoy. Las ruinas de Tikal, como parte del Parque Nacional Tikal, fueron el primer sitio arqueológico en ser declarado Patrimonio de la Humanidad en 1979, y así mismo, el primer Patrimonio de la Humanidad mixto, (ecológico y arqueológico), del mundo. El sitio puede ser visitado por el público, todos los días del año, una carretera asfaltada de 76 km comunica a Tikal con Flores, la principal ciudad del Petén. Tikal fue usada como escenario de la base rebelde en la película Star Wars y es el modelo de la ciudad Maya en la película de Mel Gibson, Apocalypto. 5ta visita a mi sitio visitado #1, El Petén, Guatemala, Marzo 20, 2010 - Estoy seguro que sin lugar a dudas, Tikal es un sitio que deja una profunda huella en cada uno de sus visitantes, incluso las sensaciones y emociones percibidas aquí, uno se las lleva a casa y jamás las olvida. - Este fue mi primer sitio Maya explorado el 3 de abril del 2003, tenía años deseando visitar un sitio Maya, cualquiera! y una vez que lo conseguí y regrese a casa, recuerdo que fui con mi hermano Jaime y le regrese su cámara fotográfica digital que me había prestado y le pedí que me imprimiera las fotos, un par de días después me dio la noticia de que por error había borrado todas las fotos y disculpándose espero mi reacción, que creo pensó sería de enojo, con una sonrisa le dije, Jaime, me gusto tanto Tikal, que sé que voy a regresar, así es que no te preocupes, regrese en diciembre de ese mismo año, ya que había descubierto mi gran pasión de exploración de sitios Mayas y además, que Tikal es un lugar al que uno regresará en cada oportunidad posible, es difícil de explicar, lo mismo siento por Palenque y por esa razón, son los 2 sitios Mayas que más he visitado. - Tikal es una de las máximas expresiones de la civilización Maya, ya que contiene una de las arquitecturas más monumentales y colosales. - Fue Ambrosio Tut quien a la distancia diviso las cresterías de sus templos en 1848 y le informo de su hallazgo al gobernador del Petén, Modesto Méndez, ese mismo año planearon ellos 2 su primera exploración a Tikal. - Después de eso, fueron varios los exploradores famosos los que lo visitaron, entre ellos destaca Alfred Percival Maudslay, Teobert Maler y Sylvanus Morley, de hecho fue T. Maler el que dejo su nombre grabado para la posteridad en una de la entradas de la acrópolis. - Tikal sin lugar a dudas fue el sitio Maya más poderoso junto con su gran enemigo Calakmul. - Tikal o Mutal, que es su nombre original, es uno de los sitios Mayas más estudiados y de los que más información se adquirido debido en parte a su gran cantidad de estelas y grabados que nos dieron como resultado un gran proceso dinástico. - En cuanto arquitectura se refiere, no cabe duda que Tikal es masivo y son sus templos 1 al 6 los que demuestran que en su pleno apogeo y lleno de colores, debió haber sido un gran impacto inicial para sus visitantes y prisioneros. - El ascenso a los templos 1, 3 y 6 está prohibido, solo se pueden ascender el templo 2, 4 y 5, todos ellos gracias a una escalera de madera aledaña a los escalones principales, esto permite que podamos tener una vista sorprendente de la selva y los demás templos, una vez que se llega a la cima. - Espero disfruten ampliamente este documental de 2 partes y ojala les deje aunque sea un poco de lo que a mí me dejo, su belleza es impactante. - Muchas gracias y encantado atenderé cada uno de sus comentarios. -

La legendaria ciudad de Tikal será la primero que veamos en la segunda parte del documental "Guatemala. Corazón del Mundo Maya". Como es frecuente el caso con grandes ruinas antiguas, el conocimiento del sitio nunca se perdió completamente en la región. Algunos apuntes de segunda o tercera mano aparecen impresos comenzando en el siglo XVII, y continuando con los escritos de John Lloyd Stephens a principios del siglo XIX. Debido a lo remoto que se encuentra de las ciudades modernas, sin embargo, ninguna expedición científica visitó Tikal sino hasta 1848. Fue reportada en 1848, por Modesto Méndez y Ambrosio Tut, corregidor y gobernador de Petén, respectivamente. La legendaria ciudad de Tikal será la primero que veamos en la segunda parte del documental "Guatemala. Corazón del Mundo Maya". Descubriremos con asombro que en su época de esplendor esta región estaba habitada por varios millones de personas y que a pesar de carecer de herramientas de metal ni de ingenios como la polea o incluso la rueda, pudiesen realizar tamaños colosos arquitectónicos.
Cerca de allí conoceremos el lago Peten Itza y la Isla de Flores donde se halla la capital del departamento del Petén.
Nuestro recorrido prosigue por la Sierra de las Minas. Allí sabremos que en el valle del río Motagua los Mayas extraían algo muy especial para ellos: el jade. En un taller de la Antigua Guatemala veremos como se sigue trabajando el jade para tallar joyas y esculturas, y en su museo disfrutaremos con los trabajos de los antiguos Mayas.
Entre la ribera del río Motagua y las faldas de la Sierra de las Minas hallamos la mítica Ciudad de las Estelas, Quiriguá, uno de los sitios arqueológicos más importantes de América. En Quirigua se encuentran los ejemplares más importantes de las estelas mayas, piedras esculpidas donde registraban sus acontecimientos más destacados.

Como es frecuente el caso con grandes ruinas antiguas, el conocimiento del sitio nunca se perdió completamente en la región. Algunos apuntes de segunda o tercera mano aparecen impresos comenzando en el siglo XVII, y continuando con los escritos de John Lloyd Stephens a principios del siglo XIX. Debido a lo remoto que se encuentra de las ciudades modernas, sin embargo, ninguna expedición científica visitó Tikal sino hasta 1848. Fue reportada en 1848, por Modesto Méndez y Ambrosio Tut, corregidor y gobernador de Petén, respectivamente.
Eusebio Lara acompañó esta primera expedición para elaborar las primeras ilustraciones de los monumentos. Muchas otras expediciones llegaron para seguir investigando, dibujando mapas, y fotografiando Tikal en los siglos XIX y XX.
En 1853, posterior a la publicación del diario de Méndez en la Gaceta de Guatemala, se da a conocer a la comunidad científica el descubrimiento, en una publicación de la Academia de Ciencias de Berlín.
En 1951 se construyó una pequeña pista de aterrizaje cerca de las ruinas, que anteriormente sólo podían ser alcanzadas luego de varios días de viaje a través de la selva a pie o en mula. De 1956 a 1970 se hicieron importantes excavaciones arqueológicas por parte de la Universidad de Pensilvania. En 1979 el gobierno guatemalteco inició un proyecto arqueológico en Tikal, que continúa hasta el día de hoy.
Las ruinas de Tikal, como parte del Parque Nacional Tikal, fueron el primer sitio arqueológico en ser declarado Patrimonio de la Humanidad en 1979, y así mismo, el primer Patrimonio de la Humanidad mixto, (ecológico y arqueológico), del mundo. El sitio puede ser visitado por el público, todos los días del año, una carretera asfaltada de 76 km comunica a Tikal con Flores, la principal ciudad del Petén.
Tikal fue usada como escenario de la base rebelde en la película Star Wars y es el modelo de la ciudad Maya en la película de Mel Gibson, Apocalypto.

- Estoy seguro que sin lugar a dudas, Tikal es un sitio que deja una profunda huella en cada uno de sus visitantes, incluso las sensaciones y emociones percibidas aquí, uno se las lleva a casa y jamás las olvida.
- Este fue mi primer sitio Maya explorado el 3 de abril del 2003, tenía años deseando visitar un sitio Maya, cualquiera! y una vez que lo conseguí y regrese a casa, recuerdo que fui con mi hermano Jaime y le regrese su cámara fotográfica digital que me había prestado y le pedí que me imprimiera las fotos, un par de días después me dio la noticia de que por error había borrado todas las fotos y disculpándose espero mi reacción, que creo pensó sería de enojo, con una sonrisa le dije, Jaime, me gusto tanto Tikal, que sé que voy a regresar, así es que no te preocupes, regrese en diciembre de ese mismo año, ya que había descubierto mi gran pasión de exploración de sitios Mayas y además, que Tikal es un lugar al que uno regresará en cada oportunidad posible, es difícil de explicar, lo mismo siento por Palenque y por esa razón, son los 2 sitios Mayas que más he visitado.
- Tikal es una de las máximas expresiones de la civilización Maya, ya que contiene una de las arquitecturas más monumentales y colosales.
- Fue Ambrosio Tut quien a la distancia diviso las cresterías de sus templos en 1848 y le informo de su hallazgo al gobernador del Petén, Modesto Méndez, ese mismo año planearon ellos 2 su primera exploración a Tikal.
- Después de eso, fueron varios los exploradores famosos los que lo visitaron, entre ellos destaca Alfred Percival Maudslay, Teobert Maler y Sylvanus Morley, de hecho fue T. Maler el que dejo su nombre grabado para la posteridad en una de la entradas de la acrópolis.
- Tikal sin lugar a dudas fue el sitio Maya más poderoso junto con su gran enemigo Calakmul.
- Tikal o Mutal, que es su nombre original, es uno de los sitios Mayas más estudiados y de los que más información se adquirido debido en parte a su gran cantidad de estelas y grabados que nos dieron como resultado un gran proceso dinástico.
- En cuanto arquitectura se refiere, no cabe duda que Tikal es masivo y son sus templos 1 al 6 los que demuestran que en su pleno apogeo y lleno de colores, debió haber sido un gran impacto inicial para sus visitantes y prisioneros.
- El ascenso a los templos 1, 3 y 6 está prohibido, solo se pueden ascender el templo 2, 4 y 5, todos ellos gracias a una escalera de madera aledaña a los escalones principales, esto permite que podamos tener una vista sorprendente de la selva y los demás templos, una vez que se llega a la cima.
- Espero disfruten ampliamente este documental de 2 partes y ojala les deje aunque sea un poco de lo que a mí me dejo, su belleza es impactante.
