Peru (i/pəˈruː/; Spanish: Perú [peˈɾu]; Quechua: Piruw [pɪɾʊw];Aymara: Piruw [pɪɾʊw]), officially the Republic of Peru (Spanish: República del Perú ), is a country in western South America. It is bordered in the north by Ecuador and Colombia, in the east by Brazil, in the southeast by Bolivia, in the south by Chile, and in the west by the Pacific Ocean. Peru is an extremely biodiverse country with habitats ranging from the arid plains of the Pacific coastal region in the west to the peaks of the Andes mountains vertically extending from the north to the southeast of the country to the tropical Amazon Basin rainforest in the east with the Amazon river.
Peruvian territory was home to ancient cultures spanning from the Norte Chico civilization in Caral, one of the oldest in the world, to the Inca Empire, the largest state in Pre-Columbian America. The Spanish Empire conquered the region in the 16th century and established a Viceroyalty with its capital in Lima, which included most of its South American colonies. Ideas of political autonomy later spread throughout Spanish America and Peru gained its independence, which was formally proclaimed in 1821. After the battle of Ayacucho, three years after proclamation, Peru ensured its independence. After achieving independence, the country remained in recession and kept a low military profile until an economic rise based on the extraction of raw and maritime materials struck the country, which ended shortly before the war of the Pacific. Subsequently, the country has undergone changes in government from oligarchic to democratic systems. Peru has gone through periods of political unrest and internal conflict as well as periods of stability and economic upswing.

Diplo announced the project by releasing the Mad Decent Block Party lineup with Jack Ü playing at multiple stops on the tour. After some guessing by many of who Jack Ü was, Diplo finally came out to reveal that "Jack Ü ... means Skrillex and Diplo together".
Nuestra Señora de La Paz (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈnwes.tɾa seˈɲoɾa ðe la pas]; English: Our Lady of Peace), commonly known as La Paz (/lɑː ˈpɑːz/; Spanish pronunciation: [la ˈpas]), named Chuqi Yapu in Aymara, is Bolivia's third-most populous city (after Santa Cruz and El Alto), the seat of the country's government, and the capital of La Paz Department. It is located on the western side of Bolivia at an elevation of roughly 3,650 m (11,975 ft) above sea level.
It is, de facto, the world's highest administrative capital. While the official capital of Bolivia (and its seat of justice) is Sucre, La Paz has more government departments.
In May 2015, La Paz was officially recognized as one of the New7Wonders Cities together with Vigan, Doha, Durban, Havana, Beirut, and Kuala Lumpur.
The city sits in a bowl surrounded by the high mountains of the altiplano. As it grew, the city of La Paz climbed the hills, resulting in varying elevations from 3,200 to 4,100 m (10,500 to 13,500 ft). Overlooking the city is towering triple-peaked Illimani, which is always snow-covered and can be seen from many parts of the city, including from the neighboring city of El Alto. As of the 2008 census, the city had a population of 877,363.

Bolivia - Death Road is a road about 80 km long, linking the city of La Paz and the region of Los Yungas , northeast. This road was built with slave labor Paraguayan prisoners during the Chaco War in the 1930's . It is one of the few routes connecting the Amazon jungle in the north, with the city Paceña. Currently has a more modern and safer road that connects La Paz with the Yungas who replaced the latter route, eliminating the Route 3 . Because of its steep slopes, with a width of one lane (3 m in some places), and lack of guardrails , the road becomes extremely dangerous. Also in the area are common in the rain and fog, which reduce significantly the visibility, the ground muddy and loose stones falling from the mountains. On July 24th of 1983 , a group has melted down the Yungas Roa...
Since 1965, Faustino Barrientos has lived alone on the shores lake O'Higgins' in a house built from the remains of a shipwrecked fishing vessel. He's a pastoralist, living mostly off the land and his livestock, with few modern amenities. His nearest neighbors are in Villa O'Higgins, a small community of several hundred people, 25 miles away, accessible only by a two-day horseback ride through rugged mountain animal paths. Every few years, Faustino makes this ride to sell his cattle in town. Currently 81 years old, Faustino is reaching the end of his life, and his self-imposed isolation is being encroached upon by the forces of government, economy, and tourism. In December 2011, VICE went to document his lifestyle and speak with him about the changing face of Patagonia and the gaucho lifes...

Peru – a land of extremes and intrigue – principally known for being home to the most important archaeological site in all of the Americas, offers in reality so much more. Its landscapes range from high Andean peaks, to sultry Amazon rainforests, from high altitude deserts and wild windswept coasts. Of course its great to travel with the Incas from Cusco to the awe-inspiring Machu Picchu, but its also possible to get off the beaten track, to explore remote ruins of the cloud warriors in the north, or afro-Peruvian beats along the pacific coast. Most of all it’s a diverse country that offers something for everyone. But for many, a trip to Peru will begin in Cusco. As the ancient Inca capital, and the political power base in colonial times, Cusco has its fair share of sites. Sitting in a na...
In Cusco, and the Sacred Valley, magnificent ruins await the adventurous traveler. The most famous of all is Machu Picchu. Cusco is the former capital of the Inca Empire of the Sun. Since the 16th century, Spanish colonial buildings were built atop former Inca Palaces, of which only the foundations remain. Examples in the central Plaza de Armas are the Cusco Cathedral and La Compañia church. Another striking example is Qorikancha, the former golden courtyard of the Temple of the Sun. The Spanish used stones from Sacsayhuaman, an Inca stronghold overlooking the city. In the Urubamba Valley, or Sacred Valley, visitors can see the mysterious Moray Terraces and the pre-Inca Salt Mines of Maras. Ollantaytambo is a living Inca city and its towering ruins form the start of the Inca Trail to Ma...

Lima is the capital of Peru, the second largest country in South America after Brazil and Argentina. The Palacio De Gobierno is also known as Pizzarro, or Government Palace. Lima, the City of Kings, became the capital of the largest region in Spanish South America and was where the viceroys of the Spanish crown resided. During colonial times this city was the largest, most populated, finest and most cultivated city on the continent. The long lost, forgotten cities of South America always were there in people’s imagination. In Peru we can dream ourselves back into the empire of the Incas, into the age of the Sun God and the ruthless conquistadors. We can travel the 1000 year old Inca trail, travel through the Sacred Valley and take a walk in the amazing ruins of Machu Picchu. We can meet kechua and uro indians, we can buy their traditional clothing and listen to their songs and music. From an airplaine, we can try to solve the secret of the Nazca lines, we can take a train to the Altiplano, we can travel through the paradise of the Paracas Paninsula on boat, we can take a look at the monuments of Lima and Cuzco, and follow Thor Heyerdahl’s path, when we sit into a boat on the Titicaca lake. -------------- Watch more t...
License Video: dissolve.com/products?media_type=video&producer;=Pete+R&sort;_by_date=true Peru is hands down my most favorite country in South America. There's so much to do here other than Machu Picchu. First I started off going to the other old cities in the North in Trujillo, spend a few days relaxing in Huachaco, and then a full blown hiking and climbing mountains in Huaraz for 2 weeks. Huaraz is by far the best place to do alpine trekking and mountaineering second to only the Himalayas. The alpines here are stunning and not too difficult to climb. In Huaraz, I went to Laguna 69, summited Mateo, trekked Santa Cruz independently and went way up to 5000m to see a glacier. I could spend like a month just in Huaraz. It's like a little Kathmandu here but with much less tourists! After Hua...

I didn't know much about Ecuador except the Galapagos islands so as I arrived in Quito, my initial planned was to be in the country for 2 weeks and move on to Peru. What I did not realize though was the how much more to Ecuador than it is advertise. Did you know that there are more bird species in Ecaudor than in North America and Europe combined!? Did you know that Ecuador has one of the most concentrated numbers of volcano in an area!? Did you know that there are so many volcanos here, you can be busy hiking them for weeks!? Did you know that you can go off and hike 3 - 4 volcanoes right from Quito and came back and sleep in the city? Me neither! Ecuador is truly a hikers' and nature lover's paradise! Instead of spending only 2 weeks, I spent a whole month traveling around Ecuador. I ...

This Spanish colonial city in the northern desert of Peru is a vibrant place, with colorful architecture and proud Latino traditions. The surrounding desert coast is dotted with the ancient ruins of lost civilizations. Some 2,000 years ago, long before the first Incas arrived, the Moche people and later the Chimú, managed to cultivate the arid Moche Valley and build thriving cities such as Chan Chan, made entirely from adobe bricks. These pre-Columbian civilizations also created the mighty Temple of the Sun and the Temple of the Moon, wove reed boats for fishing, dug canals for irrigation and designed refined jewelry and pottery. I'm never going back to Jackson
I couldn't bear to show my face
I nearly killed you with my drinking
Wouldn't be caught dead in that place
Lonely highway, only friend
You've got me to keep you warm again
Lonely highway, don't you cry
Let me hold you in my arms tonight
And as I hurdled down the highway
Passed the factories and the graves
I think of all the years I've wasted
I think of all the years I've saved
Lonely highway, only friend
You've got me to keep you warm again
Lonely highway, don't you cry
Let me hold you in my arms tonight
