"Silly Love Songs" is a song written by Paul and Linda McCartney and performed by Wings. The song appears on the 1976 album Wings at the Speed of Sound. It was also released as a single in 1976. The US single was released on 1 April 1976 and reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The UK single was released on 30 April 1976 and reached #2 on the UK Singles Chart. The single was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America for sales of over one million copies.
McCartney had often been teased by music critics as well as former Beatle and friend, John Lennon, for writing lightweight songs and he wrote this number in response.
Linda McCartney and Denny Laine can be heard chanting "I Love You" during the bridge.
Not unlike "Goodnight Tonight", another of McCartney's singles from the era, the instrumentation in Silly Love Songs features a distinct disco flavour. Both "Silly Love Songs" and "Goodnight Tonight" appear again on McCartney's second greatest hits compilation, All the Best!.
A love song is a song about falling in love and the feelings it brings, and/or about ones heartbreaking and how it feels. Anthologies of love songs often contain a mixture of both of these types of song. A bawdy song is both humorous and saucy, emphasizing the physical pleasure of love rather than the emotional joy. Notable performers of love songs include Paul McCartney, Elvis Presley, Elton John, Bryan Adams, Beyoncé, Celine Dion, Richard Marx, Mariah Carey, Phil Collins, George Michael, Taylor Swift, Whitney Houston, Billy Joel and Adele.[citation needed]
Sir James Paul McCartney, MBE, Hon RAM, FRCM (born 18 June 1942) is an English musician, singer-songwriter and composer. Formerly of the Beatles (1960–1970) and Wings (1971–1981), he has been described by Guinness World Records as "The Most Successful Composer and Recording Artist of All Time", with 60 gold discs and sales of over 100 million albums and 100 million singles. With John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr, he gained worldwide fame as a member of the Beatles, and with Lennon formed one of the most celebrated songwriting partnerships of the 20th century. After leaving the Beatles, he began a solo career and later formed the band Wings with his first wife, Linda Eastman, and singer-songwriter Denny Laine.
According to the BBC, his Beatles song "Yesterday" has been covered by over 2,200 artists—more than any other song. Wings' 1977 release, "Mull of Kintyre", became one of the best-selling singles ever in the UK, and he is "the most successful songwriter" in UK chart history, according to Guinness. As a songwriter or co-writer, he is included on thirty-one number one titles on the Billboard Hot 100, and as of 2012 he has sold over 15.5 million RIAA certified units in the United States.
Is that what you needed?
(background)
You'd think that people would have had enough...
of silly love songs.
I look around me and i see,
it isn't so...
Some people want to fill the world up with silly love songs
What's wrong with that?
I need to know.
'cause here i go...
Again!
I love you (X4)
I can't explain
the feeling's plain to me
I gave you some
now give it all to me...
give it all to me!
What's wrong with that?
I need to know
'cause here i go...
Again!
I love you... (X4)
Love doesn't come in a minute
Sometimes it doesn't come at all
I only know that, when i'm in it!
It isn't silly!
Love isnt' silly!
Love isn't silly, at all!
I love you... (X4)
How can I tell you about, how I wrote one? (2x)
