The West Bank (Arabic: الضفة الغربية aḍ-Ḍiffah l-Ġarbiyyah; Hebrew: הגדה המערבית, HaGadah HaMa'aravit) or Cisjordan is a landlocked territory near the Mediterranean coast of Western Asia, forming the bulk of the Palestinian territories and the State of Palestine. The West Bank shares boundaries (demarcated by the Jordanian-Israeli armistice of 1949) to the west, north, and south with the state of Israel, and to the east, across the Jordan River, with Jordan. The West Bank also contains a significant section of the western Dead Sea shore.
The West Bank, including East Jerusalem, has a land area of 5,640 km2 plus a water area of 220 km2, consisting of the northwest quarter of the Dead Sea. It has an estimated population of 2,676,740 (July 2013). More than 80%, about 2,800,000, are Palestinian Arabs, and approximately 500,000 are Jewish Israelis living in the West Bank, including about 192,000 in East Jerusalem, in Israeli settlements, built on the 43% of the West Bank which Israel has allocated to local settler councils. The international community considers Israeli settlements in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, illegal under international law, though Israel disputes this. The International Court of Justice advisory ruling (2004) concluded that events that came after the 1967 occupation of the West Bank by Israel, including the Jerusalem Law, Israel's peace treaty with Jordan and the Oslo Accords, did not change the status of the West Bank (including East Jerusalem) as occupied territory with Israel as the occupying power.
The West Bank is a landlocked territory east of Israel and west of Jordan, forming the bulk of the Palestinian territories.
West Bank or Westbank may also refer to:
Bank Panic is an arcade game developed by Sanritsu and manufactured by Sega in 1984. West Bank is a clone of the game, released on several platforms.
The player assumes the part of an Old West sheriff who must protect a bank and its customers from masked robbers. The layout of the bank is implicitly a circle with twelve numbered doors and the player in the center. The player can rotate to the left or right and view three doors at a time. The doors will open to reveal a customer (who will drop a bag of money, making a deposit), a robber (who will attempt to shoot the player) or a young boy (who will be holding a stack of three to five hats, which the player can rapidly shoot for a bag of money or bonus time). The level ends when all twelve doors have received one or more deposits. This is indicated by the numbered boxes across the top of the screen, with a red dollar sign showing a door with a completed deposit.
At random intervals, a bomb will be placed on one of the doors and a rapid timer will count down from 99. The player must move to that door and destroy the bomb with gunfire. Shooting a customer, being shot by a robber, failing to destroy a bomb, or failing to complete the level before the overall timer runs out (shown by a bar at the bottom of the screen) costs the player one life.
Jordanian occupation of the West Bank refers to the occupation and annexation of the West Bank (including East Jerusalem) by Jordan (formerly Transjordan), during a period of nearly two decades (1948–1967) in the aftermath of the 1948 Arab–Israeli War. During the war, Jordan's Arab Legion, conquered the Old City of Jerusalem and took control of territory on the western side of the Jordan River, including the cities of Jericho, Bethlehem, Hebron and Nablus. At the end of hostilities, Jordan was in complete control of the West Bank.
Jordan formally annexed the West Bank on April 24, 1950. The annexation was regarded as illegal and void by the Arab League and others. It was recognized only by Britain, Iraq and Pakistan. The annexation of the West Bank more than doubled the population of Jordan.
On 14 May 1948, David Ben-Gurion, on behalf of the Jewish leadership, "declared the establishment of a Jewish state in Eretz Israel, to be known as the State of Israel". The Jordanian Arab Legion, under the leadership of Sir John Bagot Glubb, known as Glubb Pasha, was ordered to enter Palestine, secure the UN designated Arab area, and then enter the Jerusalem corpus separatum as defined by the UN Partition Plan.
The Rhineland (German: Rheinland) has become the name for several areas of Western Germany along the Middle and Lower Rhine.
Historically, the Rhinelands refers (physically speaking) to a loosely defined region embracing the land on either bank of the River Rhine in Central Europe, settled by Ripuarian and Salian Franks. In the Middle Ages, numerous Imperial States along the river emerged from the former stem duchy of Lotharingia, without developing any common political or cultural identity.
A "Rhineland" conceptualization did not evolve until the 19th century after the War of the First Coalition, when a short-lived Cisrhenian Republic was established on territory conquered by French troops. The term covered the whole occupied zone west of the Rhine (German: Linkes Rheinufer) including the bridge-heads on the eastern banks. After the collapse of the French dominated West Bank in the early 19th century, the regions of Lower Rhine and Jülich-Cleves-Berg were annexed to the Kingdom of Prussia. In 1822 the Prussian administration reorganized the territory as the Rhine Province (also known as Rhenish Prussia), a term continuing in the names of the German states of Rhineland-Palatinate and North Rhine-Westphalia.
West Bank is a light rail station along the METRO Green Line in Minneapolis. It serves the West Bank campus of the University of Minnesota, as well as the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood.
Construction in the vicinity began in 2010, and the station opened with the rest of the line in 2014. It is the westernmost station only served by Green Line trains. The next station to the west, Downtown East, has been served by the Blue Line since it opened in 2004.
The station is located west of the Washington Avenue Bridge, extending from Cedar Avenue to slightly east of 19th Avenue.
The station is located on Hennepin County Road 122, an unsigned continuation of Washington Avenue SE. Washington Avenue originally ran straight east-west across the Mississippi River when the first bridge for the road was built in 1884. However, the current bridge was constructed in the 1960s at a slight angle to the southwest, causing Washington Avenue to became discontinuous.
Washington Avenue S itself is located a block to the north, and has its eastern terminus on the West Bank at 19th Avenue, leading into the University of Minnesota Law School.

The West Bank: Chaya Tal is one of 430,000 Jewish settlers living among 2.7 million Palestinians. The young German is aware that her presence alone is a provocation for many Palestinians. But that does not deter her. These days the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the Kingdom of Bahrain want to establish diplomatic relations with Israel, as the third and fourth Arab countries, after Egypt and Jordan. In return for the agreement, Israel wants to suspend the planned annexation of areas in the occupied West Bank, which the Palestinians claim for their own state. "Personally, I don't see a problem in our living here", says Chaya Tal, "but rather how we live here." She believes that isolation is not the way out of the decades of confrontation in the region, but that it is by talking to each oth...

Mother held back her tears as she said goodbye
She must be so proud of me
It's not everyday your son, proves he's not afraid to die
I washed my hands and packed my clothes
The brightest whites from head to toe
Hopped on a bus that left Amman
For the most important hajj I'd ever been on
Lets go down to the West Bank
Lets go we'll have our fun
Lets go down to the West Bank
Lets go tell everyone
She must be so proud of me
I had everything in place I had my objectives in mind
I had planned so carefully
Reasons not to be here well
I heard them all
But none of them could change my mind
It's drastic measures for drastic times
The bus I rode through Jerusalem
Was the shortest hajj I've ever been on
Lets go down to the West Bank
Lets go we'll have our fun
Lets go down to the West Bank
Lets go tell everyone
We're going down and you know we're going down
