• EU Partners with UNDP to Strengthen Electoral Processes in Kenya

      he United Nations Development Programme has entered into an agreement with the European Union to support the electoral process in Kenya. The tripartite partnership between the European Union, the IEBC, and UNDP under the project framework on Strengthening of Electoral Processes in Kenya comes at a time when the electoral body in the country prepares for the general elections slated for August 2017.

    • Support to Survivors of Gender Based Violence Living with HIV

      UNDP Kenya in collaboration with UNDP HQ and the Government of South Korea launched a pilot project to respond to sexual and gender based violence. Titled “Accelerating Efforts to Prevent and Respond to Sexual and Gender Based Violence” and implemented in 8 counties; (Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Kakamega, Uashin Gishu, Turkana, Nakuru).

    • Using Technology to improve sustainable Charcoal Production

      UNDP in partnership with the Kenya Forest Service (KFS) and Kenya Forestry Research Institute (KEFRI) has been training charcoal producers in charcoal producing counties to adopt new technologies that in addition to conserving the environment are cheap and easy to implement.

    • Helping Marginalized Communities Access Healthcare through Mobile Phones

      To establish the extent to which mobile money platforms are providing a means to scale up inclusive business models and access to health care, especially to among low income Kenyans, the Business Call to Action (BCtA), a global advocacy platform hosted by UNDP, commissioned a report titled ‘Advancing Bottom of pyramid Access to healthcare – A case study on Mobile Money Platforms.

    • UNDP helps Ease Water Hardship for Women in Taita and Kwale

      Through a partnership between UNDP and British Charity RoTB (Roll out the Barrel) Trust,water barrels have been supplied to women that allow them to fetch water with ease. this initiative seeks to directly impact women and children who are forced to carry heavy water jerry cans

    • Break the Corruption Chain

      Kenya is ranked as one of the most corrupt countries, with the 2013 Transparency International’s Corruption Perception Index placing Kenya at position 136 out of 177 countries.

    • UNDP Kenya Going for Gold on Gender

      UNDP Kenya has embarked on a Gender Certification process that recognizes good performance of Country Offices in delivering gender equality results. UNDP Kenya has therefore designed its programs to mainstream gender issues in addressing the interlinking components of poverty, inequality and exclusion towards achieving sustainable growth.

    • Cellphone based solar dealers accreditation initiative

      UNDP, through UN Joint program on Climate Change helped Kenya start the 1st national-wide mobile phone based platform for accredited solar dealers and technicians. Prospective buyers just need to dial *860# to get a list of accredited dealers. This has enabled gradual removal of sub-standard solar products and installations in the market thereby enhancing adoption and use of sustainable renewable energy

    • Embracing irrigation to boost food security in Turkana

      Previous interventions in Turkana County have often taken a reactive and short term approach aimed at saving lives, but this in most cases leaves communities vulnerable to subsequent disasters. UNDP is working with communities affected by drought not only to support recovery but also build resilience.

    • UNDP Hands Over Farmers Training Center to Murang’a County

      UNDP has handed over a farmer training center to Murang’a Country Government. The facility aims at improving livelihoods of rural farmers by addressing challenges encountered in small scale agricultural production. The country government will now utilize the facility for the benefit of local small scale farmers.
