The second episode of Season 6 of the HBO hit series “Game of Thrones” shown on May 2 already featured towards its end the resurrection of Jon Snow, played by actor Kit Harrington.
While the actor and the cast members as well as the production team of “Game of Thrones” had been denying since the Season 5 finale last year that Jon Snow will live, practically all fans and viewers of the TV series know that the Commander of the Nightwatch shall rise from the dead even after the multiple stabs he got in the chest from the men of the Nightwatch.
True to speculations it was Lady Melisandre, played by Carrie Van Houten, who resurrected Jon Snow from the dead with her usual rituals as the Red Witch.
Initially, all the men in the room including Sir Davos and the leader of the wildlings thought that Melisandre failed to revive Jon Snow with her spell so they all decided to leave the room. It was the dire wolf who got left behind and it was the animal who sensed the resurrection of his master first.
Shortly thereafter, Jon Snow started coughing and he woke up from the dead.
Relinquishing his role as Lord Commander
In the upcoming third episode of “Game of Thrones” Season 6, it is expected that the men of the Nightwatch and everyone else will be surprised with the resurrection of Jon Snow, but it would be less on Lady Melisandre and Sir Davos, who have seen such miraculous things before.
The title of the third episode is “Oathbreaker” and it seems that the one who is going to break his oath is no other than Jon Snow.
Since vowing allegiance to the Nightwatch, only his death can free him from his oath. It so happened that Jon Snow already died so he has already released himself from his oath. As such, he is already free to go away from Castle Black and no longer assume the role of the Lord Commander of the Night Watch.
It is likely that Jon Snow will anoint his successor as Lord Commander before deciding to move on and he would probably set his sights on Winterfell especially when he learns of the fact that the Boltons have taken over and that his half-sister Sansa Stark has been forced to marry Ramsay Bolton.
The storyline would get interesting from there as Sansa Stark, Brienne of Tarth, and Pod are all headed to Castle Black to seek refuge after escaping from Winterfell and Ramsay Bolton.
Another returning character
During the last episode of “Game of Thrones,” Brandon Stark returned to the TV series after being out completely during Season 5.
He was shown having a flashback of the old Winterfell that showed his young father Ned along with his siblings, Lyanna and Benjen. Bran Stark was with the Three-Eyed Raven, played by veteran actor Max Von Sydow, in the Winterfell flashback.
Incidentally, another “Game of Thrones” character will be returning in the third episode and it is going to be the youngest Stark, Rickon. The news was confirmed by actress Maisie Williams, who plays Arya Stark in the TV series.
It could be recalled that Rickon was entrusted by Bran to the wildling Osha for safe-keeping at the House Umber, reports the Independent of UK.
Based on the teaser trailer for episode 3 of “Game of Thrones,” two representatives of the Umbers will be bringing Ramsay Bolton a gift, which could possibly be Rickon. That would certainly add excitement and further fuel the hatred of the Starks to the Boltons, particularly Ramsay, who is now in control of Winterfell after killing his father Lord Roose Bolton, his stepmother, and his half-brother baby during the second episode.
Another character who will be returning and seen for the first time in Season 6 of “Game of Thrones” is Samwell Tarly and his wildling-girlfriend Gilly, reports Watchers on the Wall.
