The /g/ is a sound from the ‘Consonants Pairs’ group and it is called the ‘Voiced velar stop’. This means that you use the back of the tongue to block airflow from the throat.
The /g/ sound is made through the mouth and it is Voiced which means that you vibrate your vocal chords to make the sound.
It is defined by position of your tongue and it is a stop sound, which is a sound made by building up air pressure by stopping air flow and then releasing it. In this case you stop the airflow between the middle of the tongue and the top of the mouth.
To produce the sound push the tongue forward so the middle curls up and touches the top of your mouth and blocks air flow, at the same time create some air pressure by gently trying to breathe out. The sound is made by voicing out and releasing the pressure by dropping the tongue down.

This video is part of our series on phonetics and pronunciation for learners of English as a foreign language.
Phonetics is the science of pronunciation. It can be helpful for people learning English ecause one of the most difficult things about the language is the spelling and pronunciation. English is not very phonetic and as a result the same letters are often pronounced in many different ways in different words.
The IPA helps by providing a way to write words as they are pronounced. The normal alphabet only has 24 characters but there are 44 different sounds that are used to pronounce words. As well as that, most word in English originate from other languages like Greek, Latin and French to name just a few and in many cases the the language of origin influences how the word is pronounced.
The IPA provides a symbol (phoneme) for each sound so the correct pronunciation can be written or printed in dictionaries.

Interesting Comments on the Interview
Originally “Young Kim” was nervous to use English; she worked in a field and did labor work in order to stay away from the language barrier.
After 15 years, she decided she wanted to reach her full potential and go back to school to become a registered nurse.
She still does not like to use the phone because she cannot understand the other people and does not believe the other people can effectively understand her.
“Young Kim” has a laid back personality and likes to sit back and watch what is happening around her.
Comments continued
When she was going to school, she felt ashamed of how other people may see her when she speaks, so she did not ask questions or share her opinions in class. She was quiet when she was in class.
While interviewing her, she said that she felt that others thought she was less intelligent and not as educated as the average person because of her accent.
“Young Kim” believes that it would be helpful for listeners to not only try and pay attention to what she is saying but also to learn more about their culture.
She frequently looks away when talking to people because it is disrespectful in the Korean culture to look others in the eye.
Comments continued
She believes people should base their opinions on people using their personalities and not their accents.
She wants people to see her as an intelligent person and not just an immigrant. I learned a lot more about accents and the Korean culture. It was interesting to hear about her struggles and also her successes.
During the interview, we were moved and felt sad because it took her 15 years for her to realize that she had the intelligence to enroll in school.
Comments Continued
We also felt sympathy when she told us that she feels as though people think she is less intelligent because of her accent.
Another time we felt moved was when she explained that she worked in the field doing labor for 15 years to stay away from the language barrier. It struck us how sad it was that she separated herself just to avoid something, which she eventually overcame!

No lado A e Lado B é a mesma musica Don't Stop 'til You Get Enough, composta por Michael e produzida por quincy Jones.
