We moved to a remote location in
Idaho in September of
2015 and made a video of clips from our first month living on our land. This video is extra-special because people may think that when they buy land and develop an off grid property that they get to hit the ground running on day one raising chickens, buying solar panels, starting a garden, etc.
THIS COULDN'T BE FURTHER FROM
REALITY!
During the first 4-5 weeks we've been running around like chickens with their heads cut off trying to buy used tools off of
Craigslist, keeping the dust down on our property so we can work, and making endless trips to dump our septic in our RV and fill up on water. These are all critical parts to starting a homestead.
We spent hours and days driving around picking up materials from Craigslist (we picked up our
Stihl chainsaw from a guy at a biker bar late at night
... random!), calling people, doing research to find out what materials we needed and what a decent price was, and ultimately saved A
LOT of money by doing our homework. This was because we had time and wanted to us it rather than buying everything new. Not opposed to buying new but only when it makes sense.
In this short video you will see a hodgepodge of month one's chaos. We loved every minute of it, but ultimately we are excited to get to the building portion of our journey.
The next four weeks we hope to: Get our septic system installed by a professional, get our solar security lights up, mill our own lumber (in the works!), build a deck for our off grid hot tub, build our off grid hot tub, and even begin construction on our barn.
Stay tuned to follow our journey! To not miss a post or giveaway be sure to subscribe to our channel and blog at: http://purelivingforlife.com

PS: We had the opportunity to see a young
Celtic band out of Spokane at our local theater called
Broken Whistle. They are hands-down AMAZING, we bought both of their CDs, and we've been listening to them non-stop! That's why we just had to feature one of their songs in our video.
It's a memory of what we were obsessed with during this period of time. We cut wood while trying to whistle these songs. Here is a link to one of their CDs on
