I traveled to Riga for only 4 days and managed to see and do a lot in that short given timeframe. Riga is the largest city of the Baltics and offers a lot of cool things to do in Riga itself but also just a short train ride out of the center in Sigulda.
This video showcases the combination of a city trip and and action packed day out in the nature. My personal highlight has been the flight in the vertical wind tunnel "Aerodium" near Sigulda - if you feel like you can even go Bungee Jumping there.

For my final major college project, I decided to produce a film about sex tourism in my home town of Riga. As well as meeting a wide variety of male tourist groups from all over Europe, I interviewed a lot of locals that had come in to direct and indirect contact with the sex industry - everyone from a local rickshaw driver to the director of a company that organises stag weekends.
This film is neither supporting, nor opposing sex tourism, but is a mere look in to a subject that i have always found interesting and intriguing.
A big thank you to Luke Quinn and everyone in Year 2 Film & TV production at Reigate School of Art ,Design & Media, East Surrey College for making this possible.

Riga (Latvian: Rīga, pronounced [riːɡa] (
listen)) is the capital and largest city of Latvia. With 657,424 inhabitants ( 2011) Riga is the largest city of the Baltic states, one of the largest cities in Northern Europe and home to more than one third of Latvia's population. The city is an important seaport and a major industrial, commercial, cultural and financial centre of the Baltic Sea region.[citation needed] The city lies on the Gulf of Riga, at the mouth of the river Daugava. Riga's territory covers 307.17 km2 (118.60 sq mi) and lies between 1 and 10 metres (3.3 and 33 ft) above sea level, on a flat and sandy plain.
Riga was founded in 1201 and is a former Hanseatic League member. Riga's historical centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, noted for its Art Nouveau/Jugendstil architecture and 19th century wooden architecture. The city will be the European Capital of Culture in 2014, along with Umeå in Sweden. The city hosted the 2006 NATO Summit, the Eurovision Song Contest 2003 and the 2006 IIHF Men's World Ice Hockey Championships. It is home to the European Union's office of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC). Riga is served by Riga International Airport, the largest airport in the Baltic states.

Mariah Carey (born March 27, 1970) is an American singer, songwriter, record producer, and actress. She made her recording debut in 1990 under the guidance of Columbia Records executive Tommy Mottola, and released her self-titled debut studio album, Mariah Carey. The album went multi-platinum and spawned four consecutive number one singles, on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart. Following her marriage to Mottola in 1993, a series of hit records, including Emotions (1991), Music Box (1993) and Merry Christmas (1994), established her position as Columbia's highest-selling act. Daydream (1995), made music history when the second single, "One Sweet Day" a duet with Boyz II Men, spent a record sixteen weeks on top of the Billboard Hot 100, and remains the longest running number one song in US chart history. During the recording of the album Carey began to deviate from her pop background, and slowly traversed into R&B and Hip-hop. After her separation from Mottola, this musical change was evident with the release of Butterfly (1997).

For my final major college project, I decided to produce a film about sex tourism in my home town of Riga. As well as meeting a wide variety of male tourist groups from all over Europe, I interviewed a lot of locals that had come in to direct and indirect contact with the sex industry - everyone from a local rickshaw driver to the director of a company that organises stag weekends. This film is neither supporting, nor opposing sex tourism, but is a mere look in to a subject that i have always found interesting and intriguing. I traveled to Riga for only 4 days and managed to see and do a lot in that short given timeframe. Riga is the largest city of the Baltics and offers a lot of cool things to do in Riga itself but also just a short train ride out of the center in Sigulda.
This video showcases the combination of a city trip and and action packed day out in the nature. My personal highlight has been the flight in the vertical wind tunnel "Aerodium" near Sigulda - if you feel like you can even go Bungee Jumping there.

For my final major college project, I decided to produce a film about sex tourism in my home town of Riga. As well as meeting a wide variety of male tourist groups from all over Europe, I interviewed a lot of locals that had come in to direct and indirect contact with the sex industry - everyone from a local rickshaw driver to the director of a company that organises stag weekends.
This film is neither supporting, nor opposing sex tourism, but is a mere look in to a subject that i have always found interesting and intriguing.
A big thank you to Luke Quinn and everyone in Year 2 Film & TV production at Reigate School of Art ,Design & Media, East Surrey College for making this possible.

The most famous travel spot is the capital Riga, a World Heritage Site. There are also many other great places to see, both urban and rural, such as Liepaja with its unique former secret military town of Karosta and a magnificent beach. Kuldiga with Europe`s widest waterfall and Cesis with its medieval castle ruins are also interesting. Tourists can also enjoy the wild beauty of Latvia's unspoilt sea coast, which is 500 km long and consists mainly of white, soft sandy beaches. Forests, which cover approximately a half of Latvia's territory, offer many nature trails and nature parks.
Latvia is a famous ancient trading point. The famous route from the Vikings to the Greeks' mentioned in ancient chronicles stretched from Scandinavia through Latvian territory along the river Daugava to the Kievan Rus and Byzantine Empire. Across the European continent, Latvia's coast was known as a place for obtaining amber. In the Middle Ages amber was more valuable than gold in many places.

Riga, the capital city of Latvia. Riga has so many different cultures, from Russian, German, to Swedish, so I think it’ll be a really interesting day. We’re at the Freedom Monument, which is a memorial to all the Latvian people who died during the Latvian War of Independence. It’s a really majestic monument, and I love the detailed statues there as well. Today, it’s a really important symbol of freedom for Latvian people. Behind me is the another lovelock bridge. We’ve seen quite a few of these around Europe, and while Nathan doesn’t really see the point, I think they’re really romantic. This is, by far, my favorite one, and if I would’ve know this was here, I would definitely have brought a little lock and written our names on it. We’ve had a great day walking around Riga. It’s been really fun to see the different styles of architecture. You can really tell the Germans used to live here, the Russians and also the Swedish. So we’re going to finish the day with some Latvian Ice cream.

On June 16, 1940, Vyacheslav Molotov presented the Latvian representative in Moscow with an ultimatum accusing Latvia of violations of that pact, and on June 17 Soviet forces occupied the country. Elections for a "People's Saeima" were held, and a puppet government headed by Augusts Kirhenšteins led Latvia into the USSR. The annexation was formalized on August 5, 1940. During the time of the Iron Curtain, Latvia was a province of the Soviet Union, but the concentration of heavy industry was enormous. Contacts with the West were regulated. The Baltic region had the reputation of being the most urbanized and having the highest literacy rate in the Soviet Union. Latvia gained independence on September 6, 1991. Between 1991 and 2007 the country saw unprecedented economic growth. However, the global recession and the banking crisis hit Latvia brutally, and severe economic contraction and destructively high unemployment have returned.
Because of a tribal past and divisions between occupying nations, there are regional differences between parts of Latvia which are interesting to explore.

We have recently embarked on a bus tour of the Baltic countries. Riga, the capital of Latvia, was the second city on the tour. The old town has a number of cobbled stone streets and beautiful old buildings. Riga boasts a large collection of art nouveau buildings.
We ended our time in Latvia with a visit to the Ethnographic Open-Air Museum of Latvia which has original 300 year old wooden houses and churches.

Tout son centre-ville historique a été colonisé par les bars à hôtesses et les salons de massage. La pauvreté de cette République Balte, où le salaire moyen ne dépasse pas les 300 euros, explique en partie ces dérives. Des tour-opérateurs se sont multipliés pour proposer des séjours "défouloirs" à prix cassés. Sur place, les habitants vivent de plus en plus mal le fait que leur capitale soit considérée comme la nouvelle destination du tourisme sexuel des Européens.
