I told her "he has money so that's an advantage" she asked me "what advantages does that bring?" I really didn't have an answer. Here's what she told me. Lower income citizens must rely on public defenders or an attorney and not much else while the prosecution has almost limitless funds for attorney and expert witnesses" The game played in court is like Poker. If the prosecutor trots out an expert witness you better match it (at $400 an hour) . You need to match every step the prosecution takes or you fall behind and lose typically . Thus the advantage that OJ had because of his wealth was the ability to "level the playing field" against a system that stacks the odds against citizens lacking wealth. If you look at high profile cases with affluent plaintiffs you find that prosecution victories drop. So crime is certainly being committed at similar rates but since whites have a 10x wealth advantage they don't have to plea bargain at near the same rate that blacks do.
