The Landwind X7 will sell in China for about one-third of the price of the Evoque Land Rover has announced it won’t take any legal actions against Jiangling Motors and their Evoque copy, the Landwind X7. Speaking to Automotive News at the Shanghai Motor Show, JLR chief executive Ralf Speth said his company cannot stop the SUV from going on sale. “I really regret that all of a sudden, copy-and-paste is coming up again,” he commented. ”There are no laws, there's nothing to protect us, so we have to take it as it is.” Back in November last year Speth described the controversial Chinese vehicle as an Intellectual Property theft regarding the luxury Land Rover SUV. He then announced that this is “not something that should happen” and “what we have seen today is not correct.” The Landwind X7 will reportedly go on sale in China for about one-third of the price of the Evoque.

The controversial Landwind X7 has been photographed in the metal ahead of its official debut at the Guangzhou Auto Show in China. The result of a joint development between local automakers Jiangling Motors and Changan Auto, the Landwind X7 is nothing more than a shameless copy of the Range Rover Evoque and it will actually be commercialized starting March 2015. The side by side comparison photos were taken in the parking lot of the Guangzhou Auto Show and show the obvious similarities between the Range Rover Evoque (China-spec) and the Landwind X7. While the locally produced Range Rover Evoque costs 400,000 yuan (about $65,000), its lookalike is expected to kick off at approximately 120,000 yuan ($19,600). The Landwind X7 will be powered by a four-cylinder 2.0-liter turbo rated at 190 bhp (141 kW) and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) sent to the front wheels via a standard six-speed manual or an optional eight-speed automatic. The X7 is powered by a 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder engine, but the difference in MSRP shows up when comparing the outputs: 188 horsepower for the X7, 237 hp for the Evoque. Elsewhere, Autocar's close comparison of the real deal and its hanger-on revealed the differences in detailing that you'd expect of any much less expensive copycat. Although this nota bene concerns different vehicles, when it comes to corporate philosophy there was LandWind's X6, a repurposed Isuzu Rodeo that scored a zero in Europe's NCAP crash test, and it's CV9 - which cribbed a Vauxhall - that scored a two in the same crash test procedure. The U-S and China are increasing economic ties yearly - one example is the new alliance between motor giant Ford and a Chinese automobile company J-M-C. Together they've constructed a durable 12 seater van - a nod both to China's vast population and also to its miles of unsurfaced roads. Ford says it's the beginning of a new era between the two countries. SOUNDBITE: Our major markets in the last 30 or 40 years have been in Europe and North America. We need for the next century to grow our presence dramatically in the Asian region. We need to grow it in China and other countries in the Asian region. This is another step in that commitment. It's a small step but we plan to grow substantially over the coming decades. More than 50 percent of the parts will be made in China, with plans to increase that proportion to 90 percent. Initially, the vans will come in 12- and nine-seat models, with plans to launch a 15-seater next year. Ford teamed up with J-M-C in 1995 when the U-S auto giant bought 20 percent of J-M-C's "B" shares, which are reserved for foreign investors.
