Its main plant is located on an area of approximately at Karadeniz Eregli, Zonguldak on the shore of the Black Sea. Erdemir operates a large seaport, the Port of Erdemir, to import and export materials.
Erdemir has Port of Erdemiralso acquired the steel plant at İskenderun, Hatay Province in southern Turkey.
Turkish Armed Forces Pension Fund (OYAK) acquired a 49.29% stake in Erdemir on 4 October 2005 for $2.77 billion in a televised auction. The fund acquired 46.12% came from the Turkish Privatization Administration (OIB) and was also obliged to purchase an additional 3.17% stake from a Turkish bank. OYAK beat out five other bidders for Erdemir. This included Mittal Steel, Arcelor, Novolipetsk Steel (NLMK) and Severstal, which bid in consortium with the Nurol-Limak-Ozaltin-Alkol Pazarlama joint venture group. The Eregli joint venture group also participated in the auction. In 2010 Erdemir became 5 th biggest steel producer in Europe

Still in 2003, and working under the Rune RK name, they released the track "Calabria", an instrumental house tune with a synthesized saxophone riff, on Credence, a sublabel of Parlophone Records, for which he received the Danish Music Award in 2004. Following the remakes of "Calabria" by Drunkenmunky and Alex Gaudino, this one reaching #4 in the UK charts under the name "Destination Calabria", Rune and Torpe remade the track with new ragga vocals provided by Danish singer Natasja Saad, which peaked at #9 in France, #3 in Canada, #3 in Portugal, and #43 in the U.S. and finishing #1 on iTunes-US sales chart in the Dance-genre, making it one of the most popular reggae fusion songs to date. The song also appeared in a commercial for Target.
Enur released his first album, Raggatronic, a predominantly reggae fusion album, on 9 September 2008 and has guest-appearances by Natasja, Natalie Storm, Majid, Beenie Man, Greg Nice, Chopper City Boyz, Nicki Minaj, and Collie Buddz Michael Rune.
Rune and Torpe have also founded the labels ArtiFarti Records (2005), Tattoorec.com (2006) and Nightology Records (2008).

He graduated from the Metallurgy Department of the Istanbul Technical University in 1977. After working for two years at the İskenderun Iron and Steel Company in Turkey as an engineer, he went to the USA for doctoral studies. Erdemir received a master's degree in materials engineering and a doctorate in materials science and engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1982 and 1986, respectively. After completing his military service in Turkey, Erdemir began in 1987 to work as an assistant metallurgist at the Argonne National Laboratory near Chicago, which is operated by the University of Chicago for the U.S. Department of Energy. Since 1990, he is conducting his research as a materials scientist.
Erdemir has broken one of the technological records of the century by conducting friction tests on a new ultra-hard, low-friction coating. The material is many times slicker than Teflon and hard enough to show promise for use in automobile engine parts. It is reported that the invention of Erdemir, who has been on the covers of many scientific magazines published in the USA, has broken the friction coefficient record by 20-fold. He developed a carbon coating that showed the lowest coefficient of friction, less than 0.001, when tested in a dry nitrogen atmosphere. This makes the carbon coating 40 times slicker than Teflon, which has a coefficient of about 0.04.
Erdemir made Argonne Laboratory the number one research center for tribology and has received many international prizes, including three R&D; 100 Awards, considered the Oscar of technology, in 1991, 1998 and 2003 for a boric acid lubricant and a near frictionless carbon coating, respectively. He has patent rights for six of his inventions.
Erdemir is member of several professional societies and published more than 100 scientific papers in the fields of friction, wear, lubrication of materials and coatings. He was awarded an honorary doctorate degree from the University of Anatolia, Eskişehir, Turkey in 1998.
