When it comes to the topic of love and wedding planning, there's no better source of advice than from real brides and couples. Melissa Theocharous, a renowned female disc jockey in Sydney Australia known as "DJ Mel," and her husband Theo Hatzi share their marriage advice to help newly engaged couples. When Mr. and Mrs. Hatzi got married, Melissa was 24 and Theo 26 years of age. On the big wedding day Melissa walked down the aisle with a made-to-measure, strapless corset-style bodice finished with Swarovski crystals and hand sewn embellishments with a mermaid-style tulle trail wedding dress. This wedding dress was bought from Idora Bridal, Leichardt - a bridal boutique and ABIA 2015 winner. And the glamour did not stop there. They had their a minimoon in Koh Samuni, Thailand for one week and booked a Europe trip for July through August for five weeks. Their wedding photographer A2z Weddings capture the special moments of their wedding.
For those still looking for love, they are often curious how married couples met. For Melissa and Theo, they met August 2010 at a Trademark Nightclub in Kings Cross. Although the night club is now closed, they recall dancing the night away until closing time - 5am - and didn't want the night to end. Since then, they haven't been apart. Melissa feels she was attracted to Theo from the moment she met him, telling her girl friend that he was her dream guy as soon as she spotted him in the club. Can you imagine meeting your ideal partner? What would he or she look like? For Melissa, her dream guy was tall, fair hair, and blue eyes. She feels she got lucky meeting Theo, especially because the attraction goes beyond looks. Their common interests include: music/concerts, being creatively business-minded, traveling, enjoying a good movie and being foodies.
Theo proposed to Melissa by asking her dad's approval to marry her and then he organized a trip for two to Las Vegas and Hawaii. He proposed to her at the top of the Eiffel Tower in Las Vegas in June 2014. The engagement ring is 18ct. white gold, with a round 1.00 ct. diamond on a band of more than ½ ct. of diamonds. They married October 2015 taking advantage of both classic and modern wedding theme ideas, marrying in a Kogarah Greek Orthodox Church and having the wedding reception at The Renaissance Piano Room. They had around 350 guests with interstate guests from Adelaide.
The biggest highlight of the wedding day for Melissa was leaving the church as husband and wife with their family and friends at the service. The day spent with the bridal party and A2z photographers/videographers around the beautiful sights of Sydney – Lady Macquarie Chair, Hyde Park and the Rocks was also a highlight. Moreover, Melissa loved entering the Renaissance with an array of fireworks and celebrating the night with amazing entertainment. She also enjoyed browsing photos and video from her wedding online and in their hardcopy paper. They had her fill out an questionnaire to get an idea of her favorite bridal moments- including her bridal waltz to "If I Lose Myself" by OneRepublic. Melissa loved the string quartet accompanying the song. In addition, she recall enjoying the modern greek band and two internally renowned greek singers - Nikita Ellenis and Maria Stavropoulou and Dj Dimi K as her wedding reception entertainment. Wedding guests enjoyed not only the music but also fresh seafood platters, Chivas Regal and Grey Goose Vodka. But like all weddings, there were a couple of disaster moment like suit mishaps but all and all all that was needed to make this dream wedding possible was love.
