In Bob Marleys infamous Trench Town, we meet the kids who risk their lives every day to get to school. The constant turf wars, battle for control by the local dons and the fact that police are out-gunned, make this a real life tragedy of Hollywood proportions. Through the childrens outlooks, aspirations and fears, we enter an otherwise no-go area.
Every morning as I rise, I hear the gunshots firing says Leroy. His school is on the borderline between the two warring factions of Trench Town. They just fire shots indiscriminately, these guys are killing for fun he tells us as we follow his walk to school. Brightly coloured shacks that look ready to collapse house over 25 000, army tanks and car bombs litter the dusty streets and Bob Marleys face smiles out from a billboard, pock-marked with bullet holes.
Were living in a warzone says Sergeant Robert Taylor yet we dont have the tools to overpower the gangs. It is well known that politicians armed the local dons in the 60s in return for votes- the two main political parties, the JLP and the PNP, have been at loggerheads ever since. Politicians had an interest in having people fight each other for scarce benefits explains Blakka, who left Trench town when his house was burnt down- theres no jobs, theres no money, Ill kill to maintain that access to the little there is.
Having grown up in this turmoil, the youths are now the ones with the guns in their hands. The age range for the most dangerous gangs is 14-25 explains Sergeant Taylor, these kids have grown up with no hopes and nothing to live for. Many had to leave school because of the shootings and were drawn into the only other means of survival. Those kids searching for food, searching for someone to take an interest in them are the ones who end up pointing a gun at you says Delroy, a teacher.
Yet there's hope amidst this almost impossible educational environment. I want to study law says one student I want to publish my novel says another, I want to be a flight attendant says Shanice as she wipes away her tears. A powerful glimpse into the reality of life in Trench Town, through the eyes of the children who are gearing to change it all.

Trench Town is a neighborhood located in the parish of St. Andrew which shares municipality with Kingston, the capital and largest city of Jamaica. In the 1960s Trench Town was known as the Hollywood of Jamaica. Today Trench Town boasts the Trench Town Culture Yard Museum, a visitor friendly National Heritage Site presenting the unique history and contribution of Trench Town to Jamaica. Trench Town is the birthplace of rocksteady and reggae music, as well as the home of reggae and Rastafari ambassador Bob Marley. The neighborhood gets its name from its previous designation as Trench Pen, 400 acres of land once used for livestock by Daniel Power Trench, an Irish immigrant of the 18th century (descendants of the Earls of Clancarty). The Trench family abandoned the land in the late 19th century. It is a common misconception that the name comes from the large open storm-water drain that runs through the neighbourhood in the middle of Collie Smith Drive. Trench Town is home to the communities of Wilton Gardens [Rema], Federal Gardens, Arnette Gardens [Jungle], Havana, Buckers and others. Trench Town today is also the home of two of Jamaica's top Premier League football club teams, Arnette Gardens and Boys' Town.

Robert Nesta "Bob" Marley, OM (6 February 1945 – 11 May 1981) was a Jamaican singer-songwriter and musician. He was the rhythm guitarist and lead singer for the ska, rocksteady and reggae band Bob Marley & The Wailers (1963–1981). Marley remains the most widely known and revered performer of reggae music, and is credited with helping spread both Jamaican music and the Rastafari movement to a worldwide audience.
Marley's music was heavily influenced by the social issues of his homeland, and he is considered to have given voice to the specific political and cultural nexus of Jamaica. His best-known hits include "I Shot the Sheriff", "No Woman, No Cry", "Could You Be Loved", "Stir It Up", "Get Up Stand Up", "Jamming", "Redemption Song", "One Love" and, "Three Little Birds", as well as the posthumous releases "Buffalo Soldier" and "Iron Lion Zion". The compilation album Legend (1984), released three years after his death, is reggae's best-selling album, going ten times Platinum which is also known as one Diamond in the U.S., and selling 25 million copies worldwide.

Live at the Roxy is a two-disc live album by Bob Marley & The Wailers, released in 2003. The album contains a complete concert, recorded on the 26th of May 1976 at The Roxy in West Hollywood California, during the Rastaman Vibration tour. This concert was originally broadcast live on the KMET radio station in Los Angeles. Because of the radio simulcast, this concert became widely bootlegged beginning in 1976. In 2002 the Marley family released the concert on the reissued Rastaman Vibration: Deluxe Edition, with a previously unreleased single "Smile Jamaica". -

They just fire shots indiscriminately, these guys are killing for fun he tells us as we follow his walk to school. Brightly coloured shacks that look ready to collapse house over 25 000, army tanks and car bombs litter the dusty streets and Bob Marleys face smiles out from a billboard, pock-marked with bullet holes.
Were living in a warzone says Sergeant Robert Taylor yet we dont have the tools to overpower the gangs. It is well known that politicians armed the local dons in the 60s in return for votes- the two main political parties, the JLP and the PNP, have been at loggerheads ever since. Politicians had an interest in having people fight each other for scarce benefits explains Blakka, who left Trench town when his house was burnt down- theres no jobs, theres no money, Ill kill to maintain that access to the little there is.
Having grown up in this turmoil, the youths are now the ones with the guns in their hands. The age range for the most dangerous gangs is 14-25 explains Sergeant Taylor, these kids have grown up with no hopes and nothing to live for. Many had to leave school because of the shootings and were drawn into the only other means of survival. Those kids searching for food, searching for someone to take an interest in them are the ones who end up pointing a gun at you says Delroy, a teacher.
Yet there's hope amidst this almost impossible educational environment. I want to study law says one student I want to publish my novel says another, I want to be a flight attendant says Shanice as she wipes away her tears. A powerful glimpse into the reality of life in Trench Town, through the eyes of the children who are gearing to change it all.

Live at the Roxy is a two-disc live album by Bob Marley & The Wailers, released in 2003. The album contains a complete concert, recorded on the 26th of May 1976 at The Roxy in West Hollywood California, during the Rastaman Vibration tour.
This concert was originally broadcast live on the KMET radio station in Los Angeles. Because of the radio simulcast, this concert became widely bootlegged beginning in 1976. In 2002 the Marley family released the concert on the reissued Rastaman Vibration: Deluxe Edition, with a previously unreleased single "Smile Jamaica".

Trench Town Reading Centre Field Trip - Day out to the Marcus Garvey Museum & Devon House - Feb 2011
We're on the way to Devon House, the kids are fascinated by all they see through the window. Kingston is a small city but they rarely get to the opportunity to travel outside of Trench Town. Everybody had a pattie and a famous Devon House icecream and we played football, baseball and skipping on the lawns. The hot running water and soap machines in the bathrooms were also major attractions for the kids and I thank and apologise to the lovely ladies who care for the washrooms!! Please help us give the kids more special experiences like this beautiful day out. This was my very first trip alone outside of the US. Very daring but very adventurous. Despite going in the middle of Hurricane Season, Tropical storm Issaac missed Jamaica and Atlanta and it only rained twice the whole time. :) Not only did i do everything i wanted but i also did everything i wanted within a set budget. I got the opportunity to see Montego Bay, Ocho Rios where i stayed, Negril overnight, and Kingston in just four days. Even though I spend half my time on the road, the road traveling allowed me to see a lot of the heart of Jamaica. I am happy to say that I spend my 24th birthday just 3 weeks after Jamaicas 50th independence day and Usain Bolts recent Olympic Victories. I have much respect for Jamaican people, lifestyle and culture as much of the island is poor. In addition to rich culture and beauty, Jamaica is home to great music. Aside from wishing i stayed in Negril for a second night, this trip was a huge accomplishment in regards to future travel alone. I learned how to use other currency versus my own and i know how I should blend in with locals if necessary. lol

Everyone is, like, "accordignly" caring (worried) for the envirovment, climate changes, pollution but nobody does anything really (or does wery little) to put things in the order, and things are very simple and begin with each one of us. Moreover, it doesn`t cost anything, to anyone, such action would be free, you don`t pay to throw trash, not through windows but in trashcan. That is one of those things that bother me the most - when I travel Serbia, when I look how this country looks like thanks to us.

Walk the streets and you will see exactly how worthy we are. One man said that cultural level of a nation understand best by their toilet. So go to toilet for example between Belgrade and Nis (Naisus) and you see how much we have advanced as nation.

In 2001, the band released the compilation album Retrospective, comprising of a selection of the most popular songs, demo recordings from the early phases and live material[10], and in 2006, after a long work break, the band released their third studio album Vreme vode (Time of the Water), released by Automatik Records[11]. The album featured the material composed by the Matić brothers and recorded in a lineup which beside them also featured Veroljub Spasić (drums), Marko Cvetković (bass guitar), Marin Petrić (percussion), Milan Petrović (keyboards), Đorde Ćurčić (guitar), Mihajlo Bogosavljević (trombone), Dobroslav Petrović (trumpet), Aleksandar Petković (saxophone), Tatjana Popović (backing vocals) and Tatjana Šaletić (backing vocals)
