Firehouse Subs is a US-based, fast food restaurant chain that specializes in hot subs. Founded in 1994 in Jacksonville, Florida by former firefighter brothers Robin and Chris Sorensen, Firehouse Subs serves sandwiches with meats and cheeses, "steamed" hot and placed on a toasted sub roll. Locations offer a family-oriented atmosphere, with a firefighter theme that includes fire equipment throughout the store and a menu that features sandwiches with themed names. They offer hot sauces in a range of intensities. Pictures mounted on the walls highlight local firefighting history, as well as the founders' history of firefighting service.
Firehouse Subs was named "Company of the Year" by KPMG in 2006, and is the "National Chain" winner of the National Restaurant Association’s Restaurant Neighbor Award for community service.
The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, Inc., a non-profit organization, was created in 2005. It provides funding and support for local firefighters.
Plans for expansion in 2006 were focused on the Northeast, Central, and Southwest regions of the US, with plans for another 100 restaurants to be developed.

Move over Subway. Take a seat Jimmy Johns. Firehouse Subs has arrived. Actually the Florida-based sub shop has more than 600 restaurants in 35 states. But they're new to Michigan, with restaurants now open in East Lansing and Mt. Pleasant. It appears that number will grow significantly if John Kupiec has his way. Kupiec knowns a thing or 2 about subs. His roots are in advertising as the longtime head of the Can Am agency. Along with way he owned several Michigan Subway stores. And he also dabbled in politics, having lost to then incumbent Congressman Dale Kildee in a US House race a few years back. These days he says he's making a better sub sandwich. At Firehouse, it's all about steam. Firehouse Subs opened its first larea-location in Mount Pleasant last Wednesday. In a news rele...

It was an unprecedented community effort, two decades in the making, that began in May when the U.S. Navy officially turned over the highly decorated Vietnam-era naval destroyer USS Edson to the Saginaw Valley Ship Museum and culminated three months later with her triumphant arrival in Bay City. From the day of the official signing in May, her departure from the Philadelphia Shipyard in July, to her August arrival in Michigan, NBC25 was the only station to document the journey of the USS Edson from "day one" to present day.
