Mayfair, London.
L/S of beatnik girl, Stephanie Beaumont, walking down a London street clad in leather jacket and jeans. Narrator tells us that she's "... passing a Mayfair beauty parlour, where smart chic women pretty themselves up. No place for her - or is it ?." She looks at the entrance of the beauty parlour, stubs out her cigarette and enters. M/S of Stephanie being seated in a very posh looking parlour. Two beauticians stand over her deciding what they can do with this beatnik. C/U of eggs being cracked open and put into a bowl, the narrator informs us that they are not to provide the beatnik with a "...a good square meal .." but to make "...a lather that will condition your hair." We next see Stephanie's head over the back of a sink as the egg yolk in rubbed in.
M/S Stephanie walks into shot aided by two beautician assistants. Her hair is now in curlers and net, she lies down on a couch and is covered by a blanket. Now the real treatment begins. We see various C/U shots of Stephanie lying on the couch. She is first treated to a face massage, then pads are placed over her eyes and then the plastic mask is added. We see an assistant rubbing and brushing various liquids and creams into Stephanie's face. Which we are told are are actually ".. anti wrinkle lotion and warm wax..." The mask is removed, and she is then treated to an "oxylation spray" before shiny pink lipstick is added.
C/U shot of Stephanie's reflection in the mirror, her hair is now in a bouffant style and is being given the finishing touches by an assistant. Hairspray is added - Stephanie smiles obviously pleased with her new hair do. M/S Stephanie walks into a very stately looking room with a large chandelier hanging from the ceiling. She is wearing a very glamorous shiny looking outfit. She talks with an assistant perhaps discussing about her new fashionable look. L/S She places a shawl around her shoulders and begins to walk downstairs and smiles. The transformation from beatnik to beatnik beauty.

Beatnik was a media stereotype of the 1950s and early 1960s that displayed the more superficial aspects of the Beat Generation literary movement of the 1950s and violent film images, along with a cartoonish depiction of the real-life people and the spiritual quest in Jack Kerouac's autobiographical fiction.
Kerouac introduced the phrase "Beat Generation" in 1948, generalizing from his social circle to characterize the underground, anti-conformist youth gathering in New York at that time. The name came up in conversation with the novelist John Clellon Holmes who published an early Beat Generation novel, Go (1952), along with a manifesto in The New York Times Magazine: "This Is the Beat Generation" In 1954, Nolan Miller published his third novel, Why I Am So Beat (Putnam), detailing the weekend parties of four students.
The adjective "beat" was introduced to the group by Herbert Huncke, though Kerouac expanded the meaning of the term. "Beat" came from underworld slang—the world of hustlers, drug addicts and petty thieves, where Ginsberg and Kerouac sought inspiration. "Beat" was slang for "beaten down" or down-trodden, but to Kerouac and Ginsberg, it also had a spiritual connotation as in "beatitude". Other adjectives discussed by Holmes and Kerouac were "found" and "furtive." Kerouac felt he had identified (and was the embodiment of) a new trend analogous to the influential Lost Generation.

Plot: Sudden fame and a self-destructive lifestyle were taking a toll on Jack Kerouac's mind and body following the unparalleled success of the groundbreaking novel, On The Road. Once the handsome literary maverick and hero of the Beat Generation, Kerouac now sees only a vestige of his former self, ravaged by alcohol and drugs, aged beyond his years and tormented by self-doubt. Questioning his talent, his faith, and his mortality, Kerouac leaves New York for California, on a quest for redemption at an isolated, fog-banked cabin in the primitive landscape of the Big Sur woods. What ensues in those fateful 3 weeks of August, 1960, is both terrifying and revelatory. While Kerouac is able to find beauty and elation in his surroundings, the dichotomy of his psyche renders him unable to face his demons alone. He sets off on a visceral collision course of paranoia, sex, delirium tremens, misery and madness. His desperation culminates in an intense, hallucinatory breakdown, but the duality of his nature (again) comes into play and he emerges from his dark place - however fleeting - with a modicum of peace and optimism.

Plot: She's All That is your typical high school prom king and queen story and the run in defending the star status in the upcoming election. High school hottie, Zach Siler is dumped by his prom-queen girlfriend, the equally hot and extremely popular, Taylor Vaughan who fell for a second-hand world reject TV soap star who she met over the spring break. Having publicly dumped, Zach defends his discomposure by stating that Taylor is all make-up and wonder-bra and he can make any ordinary girl a prom queen with similar package. His high-school buddy, Dean Sampson, engages him in a bet following the statement and picks the geeky looking Laney Boggs out of the crowd as the girl Zach must transform into the new prom queen. Zach agrees since he has no options but as time passes and Laney begins to transform, Zach finds her to be unusually attractive. While all that falls beautifully in place, it's not your typical fairy-tale either. Throw in Dean Sampson to complicate the situation and he does since when he first made the bet, he never thought that Zach could rise up to the challenge but looking at how Laney has transformed, it just looks like Zach could be on a winning streak.

M/S Stephanie walks into shot aided by two beautician assistants. Her hair is now in curlers and net, she lies down on a couch and is covered by a blanket. Now the real treatment begins. We see various C/U shots of Stephanie lying on the couch. She is first treated to a face massage, then pads are placed over her eyes and then the plastic mask is added. We see an assistant rubbing and brushing various liquids and creams into Stephanie's face. Which we are told are are actually ".. anti wrinkle lotion and warm wax..." The mask is removed, and she is then treated to an "oxylation spray" before shiny pink lipstick is added.
C/U shot of Stephanie's reflection in the mirror, her hair is now in a bouffant style and is being given the finishing touches by an assistant. Hairspray is added - Stephanie smiles obviously pleased with her new hair do. M/S Stephanie walks into a very stately looking room with a large chandelier hanging from the ceiling. She is wearing a very glamorous shiny looking outfit. She talks with an assistant perhaps discussing about her new fashionable look. L/S She places a shawl around her shoulders and begins to walk downstairs and smiles. The transformation from beatnik to beatnik beauty.

L/S of beatnik girl, Stephanie Beaumont, walking down a London street clad in leather jacket and jeans. Narrator tells us that she's "... passing a Mayfair beauty parlour, where smart chic women pretty themselves up. No place for her - or is it ?." She looks at the entrance of the beauty parlour, stubs out her cigarette and enters. M/S of Stephanie being seated in a very posh looking parlour. Two beauticians stand over her deciding what they can do with this beatnik. C/U of eggs being cracked open and put into a bowl, the narrator informs us that they are not to provide the beatnik with a "...a good square meal .." but to make "...a lather that will condition your hair." We next see Stephanie's head over the back of a sink as the egg yolk in rubbed in.
M/S Stephanie walks into shot aided by two beautician assistants. Her hair is now in curlers and net, she lies down on a couch and is covered by a blanket. Now the real treatment begins. We see various C/U shots of Stephanie lying on the couch. She is first treated to a face massage, then pads are placed over her eyes and then the plastic mask is added. We see an assistant rubbing and brushing various liquids and creams into Stephanie's face. Which we are told are are actually ".. anti wrinkle lotion and warm wax..." The mask is removed, and she is then treated to an "oxylation spray" before shiny pink lipstick is added.
C/U shot of Stephanie's reflection in the mirror, her hair is now in a bouffant style and is being given the finishing touches by an assistant. Hairspray is added - Stephanie smiles obviously pleased with her new hair do. M/S Stephanie walks into a very stately looking room with a large chandelier hanging from the ceiling. She is wearing a very glamorous shiny looking outfit. She talks with an assistant perhaps discussing about her new fashionable look. L/S She places a shawl around her shoulders and begins to walk downstairs and smiles. The transformation from beatnik to beatnik beauty.
