Wil is the capital of the Wahlkreis (constituency) of Wil in the canton of St. Gallen in Switzerland.
Wil is the third largest city in the Canton of St. Gallen, after the city of St. Gallen and Rapperswil-Jona, a twin city that merged in 2006.
In 1984, Wil was awarded the Wakker Prize for the development and preservation of its architectural heritage.
Wil has an area, as of 2006[update], of 7.6 km2 (2.9 sq mi). Of this area, 32.1% is used for agricultural purposes, while 13.9% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 53.4% is settled (buildings or roads) and the remainder (0.7%) is non-productive (rivers or lakes).
The municipalities of Bronschhofen and Wil are seeking approval from the voters to merge on 1 January 2013 into a new municipality which will be known as Wil.
The blazon of the municipal coat of arms is Argent a Bear rampant Sable langued and in his virlity Gules and in sinister chief a letter W.
Wil has a population (as of 31 December 2011) of 18,167. As of 2007[update], about 25.8% of the population was made up of foreign nationals. Of the foreign population, (as of 2000[update]), 272 are from Germany, 776 are from Italy, 1,876 are from ex-Yugoslavia, 135 are from Austria, 309 are from Turkey, and 578 are from another country. Over the last 10 years the population has grown at a rate of 8.4%. Most of the population (as of 2000[update]) speaks German (85.1%), with Albanian being second most common ( 4.5%) and Italian being third ( 3.0%). Of the Swiss national languages (as of 2000[update]), 13,943 speak German, 60 people speak French, 488 people speak Italian, and 26 people speak Romansh.

Philip David "Phil" Wickham (born April 5, 1984) is a Contemporary Christian vocalist/songwriter and guitarist from San Diego, California. Wickham has released five CDs, Give You My World in 2003, a self-titled album in 2006, Cannons in 2007, singalong in 2008, and Heaven & Earth in 2009. His upcoming album "Response" is slated to be released October 4, 2011. Through his website "Response" CDs can be pre-ordered and a digital download is for sale for immediate download. He has also led worship at Soul Survivor.
Wickham was raised in a Christian home, the second of three children (brother Evan, sister Jillian), and after feeling the need to "make his faith his own" he began leading worship for his youth group at 12 years old. He graduated from Calvary Christian School in Vista, California in 2002. Wickham's father is currently a worship leader, and both of his parents were at one time members of Jesus movement band Parable. His older brother Evan Wickham is also a musician who used to serve at Calvary Chapel Vista, and now currently serves at Horizon Christian Fellowship in San Diego, CA. His parents, John and Lisa, encouraged Wickham to learn popular praise songs and to write his own. Wickham began his full-time music career by touring California and recording his first album. On November 2, 2008, Wickham married his long time girlfriend, Mallory Plotnik.
