They Might Be Giants (often abbreviated as TMBG) is an American alternative rock band formed in 1982 by John Flansburgh and John Linnell. During TMBG's early years Flansburgh and Linnell frequently performed as a duo, often accompanied by a drum machine. In the early 1990s, TMBG expanded to include a backing band. The duo's current backing band consists of Marty Beller, Dan Miller, and Danny Weinkauf. The group is best known for an unconventional and experimental style of alternative music. Over their career, they have found success on the modern rock and CMJ charts. More recently they have also found success in children's music, and in theme music for several television programs and films.
TMBG have released 18 studio albums. Flood has been certified platinum and their children's music albums Here Come the ABCs, Here Come the 123s, and Here Comes Science have all been certified gold. The band has won two Grammy Awards, one in 2002 for their song "Boss of Me", which served as the theme to Malcolm in the Middle. They won their second in 2009 for Here Come the 123s. The band has sold over 4 million records.

They Might Be Giants are responsible for one of the all-time great A.V. Undercover episodes—a 2011 version of Chumbawamba’s “Tubthumping” recorded in our old round room, and featuring a backing chorus made up of A.V. Club employees and friends. (Their idea, by the way.) We coaxed them back with the promise of a bigger, less round room and a new list of songs. They settled on the 1999 Destiny’s Child hit “Bills, Bills, Bills,” a song that they weren’t terribly familiar with, but whose charms quickly won them over. They enjoyed playing the song so much that they’ve decided to make it part of their 2015 Dial-A-Song series, a revival of their old answering-machine concept updated for a glorious new age. There are many ways to hear this excellent song, but perhaps the most beneficial to you, th...

The musical equivalent of the TEDxAtlanta theme “Bold Moves,” Moon Hooch kicked off the conference. The raw, kinetic sounds of saxophones and drums electrified the auditorium and set the energy at maximum volume. Moon Hooch is recreating the sounds and energy of dance club music with two horns and a drum set. Moon Hooch captured the imaginations of thousands with its infamous stints busking on subway platforms and elsewhere in New York City: two sax players and a drummer whipping up furious, impromptu raves. It happened with such regularity at the Bedford Ave station in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, that the band was banned from playing there by the NYPD. The trio’s subsequent tours with They Might Be Giants, Lotus, and Galactic as well as on their own have only broadened the band’s appeal. ...
The threesome book-ended the day, closing with sounds that made it easy to understand why spontaneous raves erupted when they performed in New York City subway stations. Streamed live from Music Feeds Studio, They Might Be Giants performed two ditties for us while in Sydney as they gallivant across Australia on their run of headlining shows. Brought down for the Groovin The Moo festival, but sticking around for a run of their own performances, TMBG will be performing to their Aussie fans for the first time in 12 years, the perfect time to stop them for a chat, which they happily went along with. After they performed Cloisonné, the trio belted out their hit single Birdhouse In Your Soul. The track found its way onto their seminal 1990 release Flood, which is getting the special treatment on their forthcoming Australian tour, as several of their shows will focus squarely on the record, seeing it performed from start to finish. Hang tight because following ...

Nanobots, album 16 for TMBG, finds the two John's going for some darker lyrical content and allowing themselves a Peter Pan / Oedipus concept (that's not really true). We discuss both, their cliched rock star life, those learning songs they're so famous for, and the idea of hidden politics within their music.

Isabel Severson interviews John Linnell of They Might Be Giants before the band's show in Iowa City, Iowa.
For the first time since 2001, 'The greatest band you've never seen' They Might Be Giants brought their 16-album-strong back catalogue to Australian shores. It was clearly a well-timed move given how quickly the 'sold-out' sign hit some of those gigs. Having just rocked Melbourne, with intentions to rock Sydney that night, the band stopped by Music Feeds Studio for a jam and a chat. No doubt you've caught their two live-streamed performances of Cloisonné and Birdhouse In Your Soul, now it's time to talk shop. The band seem pretty stoked to be back in town, in their words, explaining how they are way more popular this time, putting it down to simple supply and demand. We chat a bit about how it feels for the dudes to be selling out shows on the other side of the planet after a decade-long ...
