Tudor rose

The Tudor rose (sometimes called the Union rose) is the traditional floral heraldic emblem of England and takes its name and origins from the Tudor dynasty.

Origins

When Henry VII took the crown of England from Richard III in battle (1485), he brought the end of the retrospectively-dubbed 'Wars of the Roses' between the House of Lancaster (one monarch of which had sometimes used the badge of a red or gold rose) and the House of York (which had lately used a white-rose badge). Henry's father was Edmund Tudor from the House of Richmond (maternally), and his mother was Margaret Beaufort from the House of Lancaster; in January 1486 he married Elizabeth of York to bring all factions together. (In battle, Richard III fought under the banner of the boar, and Henry under the banner of the dragon of his native Wales.) The white rose versus red rose juxtaposition was Henry's invention. The historian Thomas Penn writes:

On his marriage, Henry VII adopted the Tudor rose badge conjoining the white rose of York and the red rose of Lancaster. The Tudor rose is occasionally seen divided in quarters (heraldically as "quartered") and vertically (in heraldic terms per pale) red and white. More often, the Tudor rose is depicted as a double rose, white on red and is always described, heraldically, as "proper".

Ram Trilogy

Ram Trilogy is a drum and bass DJ and producer trio.

Ram Records bosses Andy C and Ant Miles (a duo formerly known as Origin Unknown) united with fellow Ram producer Shimon to form Ram Trilogy. The three debuted with a trio of singles during the last half of 1998, the tracks "No Reality" / "Scanners", followed by "Mind Overload" / "Intercity" and "Chase Scene" / "Terminal 1". All three singles took as their template the darkstep style becoming well known throughout the jungle scene. A year later they released the first album ever released on Ram Recordings, Molten Beats.

In 2002 three of their single releases reached the UK Singles Chart - "Chapter Four" (#71), "Chapter 5" (#62) and "Chapter 6" (#60).

In 2003 Ram Trilogy released the "Screamer" EP on vinyl, including the tracks "Skittles" and "Evolution".

In 2008 Ram Trilogy had a song released on the Audioporn Records, on the E.P 'The Quarks' entitled 'Asylum'.

A remix is a piece of media which has been altered from its original state by adding, removing, and/or changing pieces of the item. A song, piece of artwork, book, video, or photograph can all be remixes. The only characteristic of a remix is that it appropriates and changes other materials to create something new.

Andy C

Andrew Clarke, known by his stage name Andy C, is an English DJ and producer and co-founder of RAM Records. He is considered a pioneering force in the drum and bass genre. In 2011 Andy C won the Best DJ title in the 2011 Drum and Bass Arena Awards, and since the awards' inception in 2009, he has won the people's vote in the awards for Best DJ each year. He specialises in fast mixing, often employing three turntables. A signature mixing style of Andy is what he refers to as "The Double Drop": lining up 2 tunes so that both basslines drop at the same time. Andy C has often organised events where he DJs continuously for 6 hours. In January 2011 Mixmag UK announced the result of 14 month global poll from 35 nominations chosen by other big names in dance music: the survey asked global voters to decide Who is the Greatest DJ of All Time Andy C was ranked number 4 on it and the highest British DJ on the list.

Music career

Early years

Andy C was a DJ in his own right but gained a strong reputation and more bookings off the back of the hugely successful "Valley of The Shadows" track, an early drum and bass track that walked the line perfectly between hardcore and drum and bass just as the genres were starting to split. The track, created and released by Origin Unknown (made up of Andy C and Ant Miles)—often referred to as "31 Seconds" or "Long Dark Tunnel" because of the samples it incorporates—made use of a heavy bassline, bell samples and a rolling drum track to produce a popular, easy to recognise track that was easy to mix and became a favourite in dance floors at raves across the UK and beyond. The track was released as an EP in 1993 and has been remixed and re-released several times, and is widely recognised as one of the most influential drum and bass tunes of the early 90s. His signature look (Andy C is rarely seen without a baseball cap) and energetic movement behind the decks when playing make him a recognisable figure.

DJ Zinc

Benjamin Pettit, better known by his stage name DJ Zinc, is a DJ from the United Kingdom. Zinc first became known for 1995's "Super Sharp Shooter", a hip hop/jungle fusion. He went on to produce drum and bass, breakbeat and more recently UK garage, house music.

Biography

Zinc's career as a DJ and producer stretches the steady evolution of hardcore from its house and rave roots through ragga and hip hop-styled hardstep and beyond. In 1991 he began his radio show with then partner dj swift on London's impact fm. He continued to DJ on various pirate radio stations, including Rinse fm while it was a pirate, and has continued since it was awarded a license in 2011

He continued to DJ on a regular basis, and was one of the first drum and bass producers to score with the 2-step garage market courtesy of his 1999 single, "138 Trek".

His productions have been relatively popular outside the drum and bass scene, most notably in the breaks genre under the pseudonym Jammin. He reached No. 27 in the UK chart with "138 Trek" in November 2000.
