Finalmente, por esos timpos también existieron algunos énclaves rusos en nuestro estado, y algunos condados del norte cuentan con nombres de sonido ruso, como Siskiyou y Stanislaus.

"Facing catastrophic water shortages across California, Gov. Jerry Brown is taking drastic action to impose water rationing for the entire state.
Brown, a Democrat, unveiled an executive order Wednesday mandating a 25% reduction of water usage statewide. The governor also announced plans to replace 50 million square feet of lawns with “drought tolerant landscaping,” to set up a program to exchange outdated technology and increase regulations on the state’s large agricultural industry.
To mark the announcement, Brown traveled to the base of Lake Tahoe for Northern California’s annual snow-pack measurement. The reading, which ordinarily would find an average 66.5 inches of snow this time of year, showed dismal snowfall. Statewide snow surveys were about 5% of their average for the start of the month, according to the California Department of Water Resources, and on Wednesday, researchers found the lowest snow-pack ever recorded, the governor’s office said."

Alta California became a part of Mexico in 1821 following its successful war for independence, but was ceded to the United States in 1848 after the Mexican–American War. The western portion of Alta California was organized as the State of California, which was admitted as the 31st state on September 9, 1850. The California Gold Rush starting in 1848 led to dramatic social and demographic change, with large-scale immigration from the east and abroad with an accompanying economic boom.

Meg Whitman
Margaret Cushing "Meg" Whitman (born August 4, 1956) is an American business executive and political candidate. She is currently the president and chief executive officer of Hewlett Packard Enterprise as well as the chairwoman of HP Inc.
A native of Long Island, New York, she is a graduate of Princeton University and Harvard Business School. Whitman served as an executive in The Walt Disney Company where she was vice president of strategic planning throughout the 1980s. In the 1990s, she served as an executive for DreamWorks, Procter & Gamble, and Hasbro. Whitman served as president and chief executive officer of eBay from 1998 to 2008. During her 10 years with the company, she oversaw its expansion from 30 employees and $4 million in annual revenue to more than 15,000 employees and $8 billion in annual revenue. In 2014, Whitman was named 20th in Forbes list of the 100 most powerful women in the world.
In 2008, she was cited by The New York Times as among the women most likely to become the first female President of the United States. In February 2009, Whitman announced her candidacy for Governor of California, becoming the third woman in a 20-year period to run for the office. She won the Republican primary in June 2010. The fourth wealthiest woman in the state of California with a net worth of $1.3 billion in 2010, she spent more of her own money on the race than any other political candidate spent on a single election in American history, spending $144 million total of her own fortune and $178.5 million including donors. Whitman was defeated by Jerry Brown in the 2010 California gubernatorial election.

"Facing catastrophic water shortages across California, Gov. Jerry Brown is taking drastic action to impose water rationing for the entire state. Brown, a Democrat, unveiled an executive order Wednesday mandating a 25% reduction of water usage statewide. The governor also announced plans to replace 50 million square feet of lawns with “drought tolerant landscaping,” to set up a program to exchange outdated technology and increase regulations on the state’s large agricultural industry. Nótese porfavor que el nombre correcto de uno de ellos es "Echeandía", mas en la calle aparece como "Echandia". Además, no sé a ciencia cierta si la calle Alvarado de Westlake/Pico Unión fue nombrada en honor al conquistador ó al gobernador, pero pensándolo bien me inclino más hacia al gobernador...
El primer gobernador militar de California, el valenciano Gaspar de Portolá, tiene una secundaria de cierto renombre en el valle de San Fernando que fue nombrada en honor suyo; sin embargo desde siempre aquí se pronuncia "por-to-la" sin el acento final. Brown, a Democrat, unveiled an executive order Wednesday mandating a 25% reduction of water usage statewide. The governor also announced plans to replace 50 million square feet of lawns with “drought tolerant landscaping,” to set up a program to exchange outdated technology and increase regulations on the state’s large agricultural industry.
To mark the announcement, Brown traveled to the base of Lake Tahoe for Northern California’s annual snow-pack measurement. The reading, which ordinarily would find an average 66.5 inches of snow this time of year, showed dismal snowfall. Statewide snow surveys were about 5% of their average for the start of the month, according to the California Department of Water Resources, and on Wednesday, researchers found the lowest snow-pack ever recorded, the governor’s office said."

Dr. Robert F. Agrella - 2016 President’s Medallion Recipient
Dr. Robert F. Agrella’s career as fourth superintendent/president of Santa Rosa Junior College was the second longest in SRJC history, beginning in 1990 and spanning nearly 22 years until his retirement in 2012. Prior to moving
to Santa Rosa, he served for five years as superintendent/president of Cabrillo College in Aptos. Dr. Agrella also served as superintendent/president of Mendocino College in Ukiah from 1978 to 1980 and has an additional 16 years of experience as a faculty member and administrator in Arizona and Illinois.
Dr. Agrella’s tenure at SRJC was marked by major growth in enrollment and facilities, including a bond-funded building expansion that transformed the historic campus in Santa Rosa and created a modern alternative in Petaluma. Despite a long list of accomplishments, Dr. Agrella was always clear that any praise he received was not his own, but belonged to the College’s Board, faculty and staff.
Beyond his commitment to the College, Dr. Agrella also served on the boards of numerous community organizations including The United Way, the Santa Rosa Chamber of Commerce, the Pepperwood Foundation, and the Press Democrat’s “Celebrate Community Partners” program.
In July 2013, Dr. Agrella was appointed “special trustee with extraordinary powers” of San Francisco City College by the California Community Colleges Board of Governors to assume the duties of the elected board as the college faced the threat of closure by accreditors. Dr. Agrella successfully guided the college to stability and secured a two-year extension for coming into compliance with accreditation standards.
The impact of Dr. Agrella’s vision, leadership, and drive to improve SRJC continues to benefit students, faculty, staff, and the community today. The SRJC Foundation Board of Directors and superintendent/president Dr. Frank Chong are proud to recognize Dr. Robert F. Agrella with the President’s Medallion.
