A broad set of USAID and Government of Peru programs have helped small farmers transition from growing illicit crops, such as coca, to alternatives such as cocoa for chocolate or coffee beans. Abarita Santa Cruz, a 24-year old entrepreneur in Aguas Blancas, Peru, received financing from a local financial institution outside of the DCA guarantee. To expand financing to more farmers like Abarita, USAID Peru used Development Credit Authority risk-sharing guarantees to get local capital into the hands of creditworthy but underserved farmers. Pozuzo - a Tyrolean village in the Peruvian Jungle
As in most parts of late nineteenth century Europe, conditions in Tyrol were challenging and for many impoverished peasants emigration was the only way out of their miserable situation. When a Tyrolean newspaper advertised in 1857 that the Peruvian government was looking for strong European workers, Catholics with good morals willing to make the far away country of Peru their new home, about 300 Tyroleans and Germans followed the call and left their lives in Europe behind.
They embarked on a journey of unimaginable strain to the other side of the world. When they finally reached their destination in 1859, they found themselves standing in the middle of the Peruvian jungle, far away from any settlement or hacienda. They began to deforest vast areas of the jungle, cultivate the fertile land and as over the years more settlers arrived from Tyrol and Bavaria, the community of Pozuzo grew into a small, self-sufficient cattle-raising village.
Due to its location, the colony remained isolated from the rest of the world and fell almost into complete oblivion until a dirt road was built in 1976 by the Peruvian government which connected it to the rest of Peru.
Pozuzo still has not changed very much since the arrival of the first settlers in 1859 and many still live in conditions comparable to a Europe of about 80 years ago. But since the road was built, the outside world has encroached on this insular culture, and for this reason Pozuzo seems to be almost more genuinely Tyrolean than its European counterpart.

"The theme that unites the whole story is the duality of humans: femininity and masculinity. Inherently, the video explores how to get a foothold in this present time: restoring the importance of femininity in men, and the importance to women in a society governed by the largest patriarchy, the Catholic Church.
The apple brings to mind "Adam and Eve". Rather than Satan's temptation for knowledge, this symbol for me has a special meaning of purity. The woman, or the female side, emerges victorious at the end of the video, because she can "mix" with this purity. While the man, because of his violence, is not able to hold the apple in his hands and destroys it. Also this purity is related with the mankind approaching to their animal side"

Don Askarian
is a prize-winner at several international film festivals. In 1996 Don Askarian published his book "The Dangerous Light". Every year the interest to his really very unique films grow up. More and more film festivals come to honor Don Askarian with retrospectives. Serious TV-stations like ARD, WDR, ZDF, Channel 4, Arte, but also Belgian, Greek, Swiss, Slovakian, Armenian etc. TV Channels are constant co-producers and buyers of all his films. The films of Don Askarian were sold and broadcasted world wide about 100 times. Don Askarian, honored with a Harvard Film Archive retrospective, is considered the greatest Armenian filmmaker (but he is Russian-German- Dutch too). In 2004 he received Golden Camera Award for Life Achievement at Int. ART Film Festival, Slovakia. It turns out to be clearer what Hans-Werner Dannowski, the president of Interfilm, meant in 1992: "Time will pass until we recognize that Don Askarian is one of the most important filmmakers of our times. His movies will take up the time they need. Finally the films will have their success not with lies and assimilations but with truth." The retrospectives and special screenings around the world, on TV and important film festivals reflect it, mirror the growing interest in Don Askarian's films followed by a broad fascination by the audience.
