Length in feet = 234 / Frequency in MHz.
To convert feet to inches, multiply the length in feet by 12 to get inches.
Metric: length is 0.485 meters.

Read this thoroughly before building. Be sure to set youtube to play in HD format for any screen grabs and to view the plans and parts list at the end of the video. Because there is a certain amount of parallax involved in construction and bending and attachments of the wires and coax and with later modifications we removed the antenna and redefined the measurements further after making the video in an effort to be more clear.
From the bend to bend of each piece of copper, this is the measurements of the elements. Using any other screws can effect the frequency. From U to U or to the bends where you attach the screws are listed. The distance between the bends.
Please understand you must cut the wire longer to achieve this and your bending needs to be like the video shows. It is not super critical except for the driven element, but we wanted to be clear.

2" of exposed unshielded rg8 or 213, 50 ohm coax to attach.- This is critical. Using smaller coax is unwise on 2 meter and will change the length needed of the unshielded coax for a perfect match. If you did use smaller coax you would peal back more shield, but it will exceed the coax guard and performance is lost in the feed line.
If you can test frequency resonance that is recommended but if the distance inside the bends matches, you will be very close to perfect resonance for 2 meter. The 2-meter amateur radio band is a portion of the VHF radio spectrum, comprising frequencies stretching from 144.000 MHz to 148.000 MHz in International Telecommunication Union region (ITU) Regions 2 (North and South America plus Hawaii) and 3 (Asia and Oceania) and from 144.000 MHz to 146.000 MHz in ITU Region 1 (Europe, Africa, and Russia). The license privileges of amateur radio operators include the use of frequencies within this band for telecommunication, usually conducted locally within a range of about 100 miles (160 km).
Because it is local and reliable, and because the licensing requirements to transmit on the 2-meter band are easy to meet in many parts of the world, this band is one of the most popular non-HF ham bands. This popularity, the compact size of needed radios and antennas, and this band's ability to provide easy reliable local communications also means that it is also the most used band for local emergency communications efforts, such as providing communications between Red Cross shelters and local authorities. In the US, that role in emergency communications is furthered by the fact that most amateur-radio operators have a 2-meter handheld transceiver (HT), handie-talkie or walkie-talkie.

Is your Ham Radio HT rubber ducky letting you down? Do you want to transmit a stronger signal to the repeaters? If so, I'll show you how to build a two meter quarter wave ground plane antenna. It is simple, low cost and quick to build. Give it a try, build one.
Length in feet = 234 / Frequency in MHz.
To convert feet to inches, multiply the length in feet by 12 to get inches.
Metric: length is 0.485 meters.

Read this thoroughly before building. Be sure to set youtube to play in HD format for any screen grabs and to view the plans and parts list at the end of the video. Because there is a certain amount of parallax involved in construction and bending and attachments of the wires and coax and with later modifications we removed the antenna and redefined the measurements further after making the video in an effort to be more clear.
From the bend to bend of each piece of copper, this is the measurements of the elements. Using any other screws can effect the frequency. From U to U or to the bends where you attach the screws are listed. The distance between the bends.
Please understand you must cut the wire longer to achieve this and your bending needs to be like the video shows. It is not super critical except for the driven element, but we wanted to be clear.

2" of exposed unshielded rg8 or 213, 50 ohm coax to attach.- This is critical. Using smaller coax is unwise on 2 meter and will change the length needed of the unshielded coax for a perfect match. If you did use smaller coax you would peal back more shield, but it will exceed the coax guard and performance is lost in the feed line.
If you can test frequency resonance that is recommended but if the distance inside the bends matches, you will be very close to perfect resonance for 2 meter.
