Ishmael Yartey

Ishmael Yartey (born 11 January 1990) is a Ghanaian professional footballer who plays as a striker for FC Sion.

Club career

Yartey began his youth and professional career with Ghanaian club All Blacks F.C., before joining S.L. Benfica on a 1-year loan deal with a buy option at the end of the contract. Former Benfica's manager Quique Flores was the first manager that called Yartey to train with the senior squad, but his debut with Benfica's shirt was never made.

Beira-Mar & Fátima (loan)

On 15 July 2009, Yartey left S.L. Benfica and signed a one-year loan deal with S.C. Beira Mar, then at the end of the season he signed for C.D. Fátima, another one-year loan. In January 2011 he was loaned to S.C. Beira-Mar for the remainder of the 2010–11 Primeira Liga season.

Servette (loan)

On 21 June 2011, he was again loaned, this time to Servette F.C. of the Swiss Super League until the end of the 2011–12 Swiss Super League.

Benfica

In June 2012, Yartey returned to Benfica from his season long loan at Servette FC. He never made his debut for Benfica.

Ishmael

Ishmael (Hebrew: יִשְׁמָעֵאל, Modern Yishma'el, Tiberian Yišmāʻēl ISO 259-3, Yišmaˁel; Greek: Ἰσμαήλ Ismaēl; Arabic: إسماعيل‎ ʾIsmāʿīl; Latin: Ismael) is a figure in the Tanakh and the Qur'an and was Abraham's first son according to Jews, Christians, and Muslims. Ishmael was born to Abraham and Sarah's handmaiden Hagar (Genesis 16:3). According to the Genesis account, he died at the age of 137 (Genesis 25:17).

The Book of Genesis and Islamic traditions consider Ishmael to be the ancestor of the Ishmaelites and patriarch of Qaydār. According to Muslim tradition, Ishmael the Patriarch, and his mother Hagar, are said to be buried next to the Kaaba in Mecca.

Etymology

Cognates of Hebrew Yishma'el existed in various ancient Semitic cultures, including early Babylonian and Minæan. It is a theophoric name translated literally as "God (El) has hearkened", suggesting that "a child so named was regarded as the fulfillment of a divine promise".
