Chile (/ˈtʃɪli/;Spanish: [ˈtʃile]), officially the Republic of Chile (Spanish: República de Chile ), is a South American country occupying a long, narrow strip of land between the Andes to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west. It borders Peru to the north, Bolivia to the northeast, Argentina to the east, and the Drake Passage in the far south. Chilean territory includes the Pacific islands of Juan Fernández, Salas y Gómez, Desventuradas, and Easter Island in Oceania. Chile also claims about 1,250,000 square kilometres (480,000 sq mi) of Antarctica, although all claims are suspended under the Antarctic Treaty.
The arid Atacama Desert in northern Chile contains great mineral wealth, principally copper. The relatively small central area dominates in terms of population and agricultural resources, and is the cultural and political center from which Chile expanded in the late 19th century when it incorporated its northern and southern regions. Southern Chile is rich in forests and grazing lands, and features a string of volcanoes and lakes. The southern coast is a labyrinth of fjords, inlets, canals, twisting peninsulas, and islands.
A guide book or travel guide is "a book of information about a place, designed for the use of visitors or tourists". Travel guides can also take the form of travel websites such as the free and open Wikivoyage.
It will usually include full details relating to accommodation, restaurants, transportation, and activities. Maps of varying detail and historical and cultural information are often included. Different kinds of guide books exist, focusing on different aspects of travel, from adventure travel to relaxation, or aimed at travelers with different incomes, or focusing on sexual orientation or types of diet.
A forerunner of the guidebook was the periplus, an itinerary from landmark to landmark of the ports along a coast. A periplus such as the Periplus of the Erythraean Sea was a manuscript document that listed, in order, the ports and coastal landmarks, with approximate intervening distances, that the captain of a vessel could expect to find along a shore. This work was possibly written in the middle of the 1st century CE. It served the same purpose as the later Roman itinerarium of road stops.

Travel video about destination Isla Grande de Chiloe in Chile. The Isla Grande De Chiloé is located off the west coast of southern Chile in the Pacific Ocean. It features amazing timber-built churches, an undulating landscape and villages supported by posts. In the small village of Chacao there is a large wooden church one of more than a hundred and fifty that are scattered across the island. Two wooden towers with blue peaks flank the main entrance gate. Striking architecture that unites European design with that of this region. Everything is made of wood with not a single nail used. Fourteen of the churches have been designated as Unesco World Heritage sites since the year 2000. When in 1567 the Spaniard, Francisco De Ulloa, discovered the island, he founded Castro, its imposing cat...
Travel video about destination Patagonia in Argentina. Patagonia is a land of endless plains, a fantastic world of ice and rock but also a land of powerful winds and distant dreams. Our journey begins in the deepest south of Argentina, at the 'end of the world' within a natural paradise between both sky and earth. In the Tierra Del Fuego region, Ushuaia is known as the Gateway to Antarctica and is a small town that has experienced a great boom in recent years. It is difficult to believe that not so long ago, nothing but the wooden huts of Anglican missionaries stood there and 400 criminals were forced to build a prison. The Tierra Del Fuego National Park was founded in 1960 and is very accessible. The Rio Pipo snakes through the varied landscape and more than 60,000 hectares cover the b...

Sometimes a once in a lifetime opportunity presents itself and you take it. Traveling to Easter Island (known locally as Rapa Nui and in Spanish as Isla de Pascua) was something we never thought possible in our lifetimes. However, when a short-time discounted airfare was available, we snapped it up and with an opportunity to explore the island slowly, we spent time hiking, walking and renting a vehicle to cover as much as the island as possible. The following Easter Island travel video is our best attempt to document our day to day adventure in the form of a series of vlogs from Day 1 to Day 7. We feel that if you're going to experience the best Easter Island has to offer you had better give yourself a 4 to 7 days. Travel video about nature park Torres del Paine in Chile. The Torres del Paine National Park in Patagonia, Southern Chile, is one of the most fascinating mountain landscapes on Earth. Its diverse variety of landscapes is captivating, a harmonic union of rock, ice and water that is also the ideal habitat for the indigenous wildlife that lives there. Three high granite mountains tower above the landscape, the 'Paine Towers' or the Torres del Paine. The park derived its name from the rock needles of the wonderful mountain range that is situated in the centre of a remarkable mountain world. Below the 2,800 metre high summits, several rivers dominate the landscape, such as the Rio Grey, on whose banks grow a large variety of plants. A precarious chain bridge crosses the Rio Grey to one of the...
Travel video about destination Lago Todos Los Santos in Chile. In the centre of Chile is what is known as the Small South, there is an area of lakes that is one of the most beautiful regions of the South American Andes and in which the primeval power of the landscape has an almost mystical fascination. The Mapuche Indians once inhabited this wilderness but they were forced to abandon the region with the arrival of the Spanish Conquistadores. Around twenty thousand German immigrants travelled to the region between 1846 and the First World War. They discovered a landscape similar to that of Central Europe but instead of the Alps it was volcanoes that greeted them from the opposite side of the lake. A journey by catamaran travels to a remote area in which the untouched natural landscape is q...
Travel video about destination Tierra del Fuego in Argentina. Located at the most southerly tip of Chile and Argentina, Tierra Del Fuego is America’s wild south, a ‘land of fire’ at the end of the world. At its southernmost tip South America ends in a confusion of islands and at the granite rocks of storm beaten Cape Horn.We visit the Argentinean section of Fireland and arrive at Ushuaia, the southernmost town in the world and ‘gateway to Antarctica’. It is difficult to believe that not long ago nothing but the wooden huts of Anglican missionaries stood here, those who introduced Christianity to the Fireland Indians in 1869. The Museo Territorial is contained within one of the town’s oldest buildings and although its display rooms are somewhat small, the exhibits more than compensate. The ...
Hey guys, here is my travel diary from my quick trip to Santiago, Chile! It was my first time in the country and I absolutely LOVED it!
