Monteverde, Costa Rica is a small town in Puntarenas, Costa Rica, located in the Cordillera de Tilarán. Roughly a four hour drive from the Central Valley, Monteverde is considered a major ecotourism destination in Costa Rica. The area is host to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve and numerous other reserves, which draw considerable numbers of tourists and naturalists.
National Geographic has called the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve "the jewel in the crown of cloud forest reserves". Newsweek has declared Monteverde the world's #14 Place to Remember Before it Disappears." By popular vote in Costa Rica, Monteverde was enshrined as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Costa Rica, along with Isla del Coco, Volcán Arenal, Cerro Chirripó, Río Celeste, Tortuguero, and Volcán Poás.
This article deals with Monteverde and its surrounding zone. This includes the larger town and tourism hub Santa Elena, as well as the nearby cluster of homes and businesses known as Cerro Plano, along with numerous reserves and attractions on the periphery of the town.
Climate
Resting roughly at 1,400 metres (4,600 ft) above sea level, Monteverde is misty, humid, and windy, with a mean annual temperature of 18 °C (64 °F) (Nadkarni 2000: 17). Annual rainfall averages around 3,000 millimetres (118 in). Humidity oscillates between 74% and 97% (Nadkarni 2000: 34).
In recent years rapidly increasing numbers of tourists has brought a sizeable influx of Costa Ricans into the area. Now, an estimated 250,000 tourists visit Monteverde a year. Improved goods and services, including partially paved roads, have arrived in recent years. In 2007, Costa Ricans voted Monteverde one of Costa Rica's Seven Wonders, along with Isla del Coco, Tortuguero, Arenal Volcano, Cerro Chirripó, Rio Celeste and Poás Volcano.

Due to the acclaimed rain forests and cloud forests in the greater Monteverde area, Monteverde has become a major part of the Costa Rican tourist trail - despite difficult access. It was recently voted one of the "7 Wonders of Costa Rica" by the Costa Rican newspaper La Nación.Of Monteverde's total 250,000 annual tourists, around 70,000 tourists visit the reserve.
The bulk of Monteverde's rain forest and cloud forest can be found in the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, a private nature reserve created in 1972 by scientist George Powell and Quaker Wilford Guindon. The area around the park entrance is the most visited, though camping deep in the reserve is possible with reservations. Nine main trails, which total 13 km, are well-kept and easy to access. The reserve features a large network of less accessible trails and a number of rustic research stations, two of which house 10 persons each, as well as one research station that can house as many as 43 persons, though these can now only be used by researchers.
To the West of the town of Monteverde lies the Bosque Eterno de los Niños conservation area, a project funded by schools and children from all over the world. The Bosque Eterno is the largest preserve in the area with 22,000 hectares (54,000 acres). Most of the Bosque Eterno lands surround the Bosque Nuboso lands to the North, East, and South of the smaller Bosque Noboso preserve. Bajo del Tigre, a small section of the Bosque Eterno de los Niños, is known for birdwatching and night hikes.
Still farther north, past Santa Elena, is the Reserva Santa Elena. This area is visited less frequently by tourists than the Monteverde Reserve, but offers a rustic station and views of Arenal Volcano.

Monteverde has recently developed a new version of their flagship pen model pen, the Invincia Deluxe Stainless Steel. This is the most recent version of the Monteverde Invincia Deluxe line, which normally includes a carbon fiber body and cap. We had the opportunity to launch this as a Goulet exclusive, so we absolutely jumped on that.
The body of the pen is stainless steel with polished chrome trim, which makes the pen fairly heavy at 47g. It's almost identical in weight to the other Invincia Deluxe pens though, slightly heavier than the regular Invincia. Otherwise, it's the exact same dimensions as these pens. It's a fairly large, balanced pen that is generally preferred by those with slightly larger hands due to its heft.
The Invincia Deluxe Stainless Steel comes in a #6 size stainless steel nib in fine, medium, broad, and 1.1mm stub. These nibs are smooth with a hint of feedback, and write slightly on the wet side. Sometimes the tines are pinched together fairly tight so they start out dry, but with some moderate pressure (and usage over time) the tines will break in and the pen will flow nice and wet. It fills by standard international cartridge/converter, and comes with two cartridges and a threaded Monteverde (standard international) converter.
Something unique with this pen that we're trying out is releasing it with a matching rollerball. Technically, this twist-style pen is what Monteverde would normally release as a ballpoint, and the rollerball would be a screw-cap style similar to the fountain pen. We really wanted to get a twist pen though, so we had them make up the twist ballpoint version of the pen and include a broad gel rollerball refill.
Now you might be thinking "traitor!", but hang on there. The Goulet Pen Company originally began with rollerball pens. They were personally the the gateway into fountain pens for me, as it was the first experience I had in writing with something that enhanced my experience beyond they typical ballpoint. If you follow anything I do, you know I'm in love with fountain pens, and the reason I'd even consider selling a rollerball pen is because I know that it could be the first introduction for someone else to have an enhanced writing experience, like I had. Given the holiday season, I thought this pen (in a set with the fountain pen) would be a great gift option for someone who isn't quite ready to dive in deep into fountain pens. It's an experiment for us here, as we don't have plans to get into any other rollerballs anytime soon.

I am currently teaching in Costa Rica and I took a trip to Monteverde Cloud Forest and went ziplining with a few other teachers, Michael1, Melissa and Gillian. What you are watching is the 1 kilometre ride and it was tons of fun. Everyone goes in pairs on this line and I didn't quite make it to the end so the guide I was with had to drag me the last 20 metres. Embarrassing but still lots of fun, it was so worth it. Monteverde Invincia Deluxe Stainless Steel
www.GouletPens.com Monteverde has recently developed a new version of their flagship pen model pen, the Invincia Deluxe Stainless Steel. This is the most recent version of the Monteverde Invincia Deluxe line, which normally includes a carbon fiber body and cap. We had the opportunity to launch this as a Goulet exclusive, so we absolutely jumped on that. The body of the pen is stainless steel with polished chrome trim, which makes the pen fairly heavy at 47g. It's almost identical in weight to the other Invincia Deluxe pens though, slightly heavier than the regular Invincia. Otherwise, it's the exact same dimensions as these pens. Monteverde Cloud Forest Zip Line
I am currently teaching in Costa Rica and I took a trip to Monteverde Cloud Forest and went ziplining with a few other teachers, Michael1, Melissa and Gillian. What you are watching is the 1 kilometre ride and it was tons of fun. Everyone goes in pairs on this line and I didn't quite make it to the end so the guide I was with had to drag me the last 20 metres. Embarrassing but still lots of fun, it was so worth it. National Geographic has called the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve "the jewel in the crown of cloud forest reserves". Newsweek has declared Monteverde the world's #14 Place to Remember Before it Disappears." By popular vote in Costa Rica, Monteverde was enshrined as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Costa Rica, along with Isla del Coco, Volcán Arenal, Cerro Chirripó, Río Celeste, Tortuguero, and Volcán Poás.
This article deals with Monteverde and its surrounding zone. This includes the larger town and tourism hub Santa Elena, as well as the nearby cluster of homes and businesses known as Cerro Plano, along with numerous reserves and attractions on the periphery of the town.
Climate
Resting roughly at 1,400 metres (4,600 ft) above sea level, Monteverde is misty, humid, and windy, with a mean annual temperature of 18 °C (64 °F) (Nadkarni 2000: 17). Annual rainfall averages around 3,000 millimetres (118 in). Humidity oscillates between 74% and 97% (Nadkarni 2000: 34).
In recent years rapidly increasing numbers of tourists has brought a sizeable influx of Costa Ricans into the area. Now, an estimated 250,000 tourists visit Monteverde a year. Improved goods and services, including partially paved roads, have arrived in recent years. In 2007, Costa Ricans voted Monteverde one of Costa Rica's Seven Wonders, along with Isla del Coco, Tortuguero, Arenal Volcano, Cerro Chirripó, Rio Celeste and Poás Volcano.

Due to the acclaimed rain forests and cloud forests in the greater Monteverde area, Monteverde has become a major part of the Costa Rican tourist trail - despite difficult access. It was recently voted one of the "7 Wonders of Costa Rica" by the Costa Rican newspaper La Nación.Of Monteverde's total 250,000 annual tourists, around 70,000 tourists visit the reserve.
The bulk of Monteverde's rain forest and cloud forest can be found in the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, a private nature reserve created in 1972 by scientist George Powell and Quaker Wilford Guindon. The area around the park entrance is the most visited, though camping deep in the reserve is possible with reservations. Nine main trails, which total 13 km, are well-kept and easy to access. The reserve features a large network of less accessible trails and a number of rustic research stations, two of which house 10 persons each, as well as one research station that can house as many as 43 persons, though these can now only be used by researchers.
To the West of the town of Monteverde lies the Bosque Eterno de los Niños conservation area, a project funded by schools and children from all over the world. The Bosque Eterno is the largest preserve in the area with 22,000 hectares (54,000 acres). Most of the Bosque Eterno lands surround the Bosque Nuboso lands to the North, East, and South of the smaller Bosque Noboso preserve. Bajo del Tigre, a small section of the Bosque Eterno de los Niños, is known for birdwatching and night hikes.
Still farther north, past Santa Elena, is the Reserva Santa Elena. This area is visited less frequently by tourists than the Monteverde Reserve, but offers a rustic station and views of Arenal Volcano.

Monteverde has recently developed a new version of their flagship pen model pen, the Invincia Deluxe Stainless Steel. This is the most recent version of the Monteverde Invincia Deluxe line, which normally includes a carbon fiber body and cap. We had the opportunity to launch this as a Goulet exclusive, so we absolutely jumped on that.
The body of the pen is stainless steel with polished chrome trim, which makes the pen fairly heavy at 47g. It's almost identical in weight to the other Invincia Deluxe pens though, slightly heavier than the regular Invincia. Otherwise, it's the exact same dimensions as these pens. It's a fairly large, balanced pen that is generally preferred by those with slightly larger hands due to its heft.
The Invincia Deluxe Stainless Steel comes in a #6 size stainless steel nib in fine, medium, broad, and 1.1mm stub. These nibs are smooth with a hint of feedback, and write slightly on the wet side. Sometimes the tines are pinched together fairly tight so they start out dry, but with some moderate pressure (and usage over time) the tines will break in and the pen will flow nice and wet. It fills by standard international cartridge/converter, and comes with two cartridges and a threaded Monteverde (standard international) converter.
Something unique with this pen that we're trying out is releasing it with a matching rollerball. Technically, this twist-style pen is what Monteverde would normally release as a ballpoint, and the rollerball would be a screw-cap style similar to the fountain pen. We really wanted to get a twist pen though, so we had them make up the twist ballpoint version of the pen and include a broad gel rollerball refill.
Now you might be thinking "traitor!", but hang on there. The Goulet Pen Company originally began with rollerball pens. They were personally the the gateway into fountain pens for me, as it was the first experience I had in writing with something that enhanced my experience beyond they typical ballpoint. If you follow anything I do, you know I'm in love with fountain pens, and the reason I'd even consider selling a rollerball pen is because I know that it could be the first introduction for someone else to have an enhanced writing experience, like I had. Given the holiday season, I thought this pen (in a set with the fountain pen) would be a great gift option for someone who isn't quite ready to dive in deep into fountain pens. It's an experiment for us here, as we don't have plans to get into any other rollerballs anytime soon.

Video / Movie Clip recorded on a 24 day trip to Central America and Texas, USA in October/November 2013. The Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve is a Costa Rican reserve located along the Cordillera de Tilarán mountain range within the Puntarenas and Alajuela provinces. Whilst walking one of the trails I came across a Tarantula Spider, which was an interesting experience to say the least. Then, just outside the main Entrance Gate, there is a lovely area where you can see Hummingbirds close up. -

Along the way, we'll learn about the various interactions among species in the cloud forest. Strangler figs are a type of tropical tree that germinate in the canopy of other trees. As they mature, they send roots downward that eventually envelop and kill the host tree. In doing so, stranger figs may become columnar trees with a hollow core. This hollow core -- formerly occupied by the host tree -- becomes habitat for a range of other animals, including skunks, raccoons, porcupines, and opossums. Many of the plants living on a strangler fig are epiphytes -- plants that grow on other plants. As Francisco explains, these plants use trees to reach sunlight, which tends to be scarce in cloud forests. They derive nutrients from moisture, wind, fog, and air. In fact, says Francisco, the name epiphyte means "air plant."
This video was shot in the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. This reserve is located in the Central Highlands of Costa Rica at approximately 5,000 feet (1,524 m) above sea level. The air up here is crisp and clean and the biodiversity is incredible. More than 400 species of birds, 100 species of mammals, and 1,200 species of amphibians and reptiles live here. Travelers can explore the cloud forest on one of the many trails that wind through the reserve. There are also suspension bridges and zip-lines available.

Sits in his office rappin' with the rats, lookin' for excuses for his fits and
spats, makin' things worse with a cocaine brain, trying to judge the
distance between pleasure and pain. Stinks like a madman cries all the
time, confident of all the answers he'll find, don't get confused or call
him paranoid-o, he just doesn't know about his mondo freudo.
Sittin'on the couch he tried to pour out his heart, while the doctor
yawned a bit and tried to hold back a fart and then he lit up a cigar and
just started to smoke and just thinkin' to himself that it's just a joke.
"Well I got a good job and it pays real well, and when I get home I treat the kids
like hell. Beat my wife within an inch of her life and tried to slit my
wrists with a dull butter knife. The family's real worried 'bout my
carousin' and boozin' " and the doctor lit a smoke to try to keep him
from snoozin', it was getting real lame and doc was gettin' annoyed-o
and didn't give a damn about mondo freudo.
Sittin' on the couch etc...
Doctor couldn't take it anymore, 'cause he was bored and just sick and
tired of listenin' to a mondo freudo. Wife and the kids whose life just
hit the skids were sick and tired of gettin' pushed around and livin' in
a condo with a mondo freudo.
The secretary knew that names couldn't escape her, walked down to
the corner to buy a newspaper. Back to the office, past all the bums,
readin' 'bout the baby junkies in the Chilean slums and "Wife shoots
husband, twice in the head" she knew the name of the man that was
dead, he was a pain in the ass, a fly in the ointment, wife bought a gun
