THE MASTER OF BALLANTRAE, by Steele Rudd - FULL AUDIOBOOK
Heir to a noble Scottish house in the mid 18th century, the Master is a charming, clever, and resourceful villain whose daring but ill-advised schemes first alienate his patrimony and at last cost him his life. His younger brother, sweet-tempered and good but dull and unpopular, suffers at the Master's hands until his patience and courage win him limited ascendancy, but he is at last consumed with hatred and driven to madness and death by the strain of his many sufferings. The story is told from the point of view of a loyal servant with the occasional insertion of documents in the words of other eye-witnesses. The episodic plot, although exciting, serves mainly as a structure on which to hang superb character studies. The Master, whom one both admires and hates, bears comparison with Long John Silver, not to mention Milton's Satan, to whom the narrator explicitly likens him. The secondary characters—narrator, father, and wife—are deftly characterized, and (with the exception of the two children) even the minor characters are vivid and memorable.
Except for a few highly dialectal passages whose spelling insists on a Scottish burr, the reading eschews any false accent.

A short excerpt of the old time radio show ,Dad and Dave.
"Dad and Dave first went to air in 1937 and ran for an amazing 16 years. It was created by George Edwards, a radio actor and producer famous for being able to play numerous characters. He was popularly known as The Man with a Thousand Voices. He played Dad until he died in 1953.
The serial was based on Steele Rudd's book On Our Selection, first published in 1899. The dramatic rights were purchased in 1912 by actor and enterpreneur Bert Bailey who played Dad on stage for almost 20 years, as well as in four films directed by Ken G. Hall in the 1930s.
Australian radio audiences took to the serial with enthusiasm. It achieved extremely high audience ratings, made the mythical Snake Gully a much-discussed place, and had Australians of all ages whistling its theme song, 'On the Road to Gundagai'."

Steele Rudd
Steele Rudd was the pseudonym of Arthur Hoey Davis (14 November 1868 – 11 October 1935) an Australian author, best known for On Our Selection.
Early life
Davis was born at Drayton near Toowoomba, Queensland, the son of Thomas Davis (1828-1904), a blacksmith from Abernant in south Wales who arrived to Australia in 1847 due to a five-year conviction for petty theft, and Mary, née Green (1835-1893) an Irishwoman from Galway who was driven to emigrate by the potato famine. The boy was the eighth child and fifth son in a family of 13 children. The father later on took up a selection at Emu Creek, and there Davis was educated at the local school. He left school before he was 12 and worked at odd jobs on a station, and at 15 years of age became a junior stockrider on a station on the Darling Downs. When he was 18 he was appointed a junior clerk in the office of the curator of intestate estates at Brisbane.
In 1889, Davis was transferred to the sheriff's office and in his spare time took up rowing and when he began writing a column on rowing in a weekly paper and needed a pseudonym he adopted "Steele Rudder", the first name from the English essayist Richard Steele, the second chosen because he wanted to bring into his name some part of a boat. Later it was shortened to "Steele Rudd". During his time as under sheriff, Davis had to give the signal at the hanging of Patrick Kenniff which left him nervous and irritable for months after the event.

On Our Selection
On Our Selection is a series of stories written by Australian author Steele Rudd, the pseudonym of Arthur Hoey Davis, in the late 1890s, featuring the characters Dad and Dave Rudd.
Background synopsis
Towards the end of 1895 Davis sent to The Bulletin a sketch Starting The Selection based on his father's experience. The sketch was published on 14 December 1895. Encouraged by J. F. Archibald, the editor and publisher of The Bulletin, Davis continued writing the series of sketches. The stories were originally written about different families but accepting a suggestion by A. G. Stephens, a writer at The Bulletin, the work was reconstructed as the experiences of the Rudd family.
In Australian history, a selection was a "free selection before survey" of crown land under legislation introduced in the 1860s, similar to the United States Homestead Act. Selectors often came into conflict with squatters, who already occupied the land and often managed to circumvent the law.
The Bulletin published the illustrated collection comprising 26 stories in 1899 as On Our Selection. Within four years 20,000 copies had been printed. It afterwards appeared in numerous cheap editions and by 1940 the number of copies sold had reached 250,000.

Heir to a noble Scottish house in the mid 18th century, the Master is a charming, clever, and resourceful villain whose daring but ill-advised schemes first alienate his patrimony and at last cost him his life. His younger brother, sweet-tempered and good but dull and unpopular, suffers at the Master's hands until his patience and courage win him limited ascendancy, but he is at last consumed with hatred and driven to madness and death by the strain of his many sufferings. The story is told from the point of view of a loyal servant with the occasional insertion of documents in the words of other eye-witnesses. The episodic plot, although exciting, serves mainly as a structure on which to hang superb character studies. The Master, whom one both admires and hates, bears comparison with Long John Silver, not to mention Milton's Satan, to whom the narrator explicitly likens him. The secondary characters—narrator, father, and wife—are deftly characterized, and (with the exception of the two children) even the minor characters are vivid and memorable.
Except for a few highly dialectal passages whose spelling insists on a Scottish burr, the reading eschews any false accent.

"Dad and Dave first went to air in 1937 and ran for an amazing 16 years. It was created by George Edwards, a radio actor and producer famous for being able to play numerous characters. He was popularly known as The Man with a Thousand Voices. He played Dad until he died in 1953.
The serial was based on Steele Rudd's book On Our Selection, first published in 1899. The dramatic rights were purchased in 1912 by actor and enterpreneur Bert Bailey who played Dad on stage for almost 20 years, as well as in four films directed by Ken G. Hall in the 1930s.
Australian radio audiences took to the serial with enthusiasm. It achieved extremely high audience ratings, made the mythical Snake Gully a much-discussed place, and had Australians of all ages whistling its theme song, 'On the Road to Gundagai'."

A short excerpt of the old time radio show ,Dad and Dave.
"Dad and Dave first went to air in 1937 and ran for an amazing 16 years. It was created by George Edwards, a radio actor and producer famous for being able to play numerous characters. He was popularly known as The Man with a Thousand Voices. He played Dad until he died in 1953.
The serial was based on Steele Rudd's book On Our Selection, first published in 1899. The dramatic rights were purchased in 1912 by actor and enterpreneur Bert Bailey who played Dad on stage for almost 20 years, as well as in four films directed by Ken G. Hall in the 1930s.
Australian radio audiences took to the serial with enthusiasm. It achieved extremely high audience ratings, made the mythical Snake Gully a much-discussed place, and had Australians of all ages whistling its theme song, 'On the Road to Gundagai'."

Harry Belafonte said a truth at the NAACP Awards about the gun problem in Black America and why no one in the black community has spoken up about the blood of black men running in the streets. White America is speaking up for their right to own a gun and when their kids are murder in schools. But, this has been going on in black America for years with our black kids in every STATE, CITY and STREET CORNER and no one, not EVEN US has said a word. HE ALSO SAID "WHERE IS THE CHURCH". It's time to speak up CHURCH, WHERE ARE YOU????The reason why I disagree with drug and alcohol addiction being a disease is because most diseases come from a germ. When you go to the store to buy alcohol it is called the SPIRIT STORE. Drug and alcohol addiction is a DEMONIC SPIRIT. And you are not an ADDICT when you come to Jesus Christ.

"The wheat was in, and Dad decided to take a trip to Brisbane. For seven or eight years he had been thinking of that trip, but something or other always came to prevent his going. According to Dad himself, the farm would suffer if he went away for a month; there would be no one to look after it, no one to manage. According to us there would be no one to look on while the cows were being milked; no one to stand in the paddock all day while the hay was being raked and carted and stacked; no one to fuss round and be a nuisance to Dave while he sold a draft of fats to a butcher, or drove a profitable deal with the pig-buyers; no one to yell boisterously for the whereabouts of any of us when we chanced to be concealed from view for a moment or two by a dray, or a hay-stack, or something; no one to annoy the men who worked hardest, and to incite them to strike and seek employment elsewhere; no one to molest Regan’s bull when it came round our way; no one to take the gun down when little Billy Bearup came to see Sarah; no one to sool the dogs on to travelling stock and challenge the big dusty drovers to get down and be obliterated; and no one to aggravate Dave and Joe to blasphemy and rebellion.

White America is speaking up for their right to own a gun and when their kids are murder in schools. But, this has been going on in black America for years with our black kids in every STATE, CITY and STREET CORNER and no one, not EVEN US has said a word. HE ALSO SAID "WHERE IS THE CHURCH". That's my question too???? One of our Elders Mr. Harry Belafonte has touched me deeply. It's time to speak up CHURCH, WHERE ARE YOU????The reason why I disagree with drug and alcohol addiction being a disease is because most diseases come from a germ. So my question is WHAT GERM DID DRUG and ALOCHOL ADDICTION COME FROM? Can you see it on a microscope? Have they even found it in your DNA? Who labeled it a DISEASE?
When you go to the store to buy alcohol it is called the SPIRIT STORE. Drug and alcohol addiction is a DEMONIC SPIRIT. And you are not an ADDICT when you come to Jesus Christ.
