The Republic's Dissident Youth: Ireland's Young Warriors
Earlier this year, VICE News filmed with a republican youth movement in Ireland called Na Fianna Éireann (“Warriors of Ireland” in English), a small group of around 30 boys considered to be hardline dissidents. They support a violent IRA splinter group known as the Continuity IRA, and believe that a renewed armed struggle is needed to free Ireland from British occupation in the North.
Considered “junior terrorists” by some, the Na Fianna sees itself simply as Ireland’s true republican boy scouts, training with the main aim of being ready for a new resistance — a fight that they believe is inevitable.
VICE News followed Na Fianna members as they carried out "bush training" in the mountains, and attended their Easter Rising march through Dublin, to get an idea of what the young face of dis...

Behind The Mask - Irish Republican Army Documentary
Download Our FREE App https://app.irishrevolutionaries.com/
In 1991 at a time of much censorship in Ireland and Britain, a documentary called "Behind The Mask" was released.
It gave the view of the Irish Republican Army about the ongoing conflict in the occupied six counties of Ireland.
In Britain only Channel 4 would show the programme but in Ireland there was only RTE who were subservient to the British occupation so there was no chance they were going to show it.
But the programme did ruffle a few feathers in the British & Irish establishments who were outraged that a programme could be published giving an Irish Republican view on events in the six counties.
The programme features legendary Belfast Republican Brendan "Darkie" Hughes.

The Irish Republican Army - IRA
The Irish Republican Army or IRA refers to six of the most notorious paramilitary organizations of the 20th century. The Old IRA, New IRA, Official IRA, the Provisional IRA, the Continuity IRA and the Real IRA. The organizations came about from the belief that Ireland should secede from the United Kingdom and form a republic. At its core the IRA did believe that using violence was the quickest way to achieve its goals and it can best be described as a group based around militant Irish nationalism.

Investigating the New IRA in Northern Ireland - BBC News
Police in Northern Ireland say that any witnesses to the dissident republican murder of journalist Lyra McKee will be offered anonymity if they agree to give evidence against her killers. She was shot dead two weeks ago by the New Irish Republican Army, known as the New IRA. The killing has sparked a backlash against the hardliners who continue to launch attacks more than 20 years after the signing of the Northern Ireland Agreement that ended the Troubles.
Police say the group known as ‘Saoradh’ are the political voice of the New IRA. They say they played no role in the death of Lyra McKee. The BBC’s Ireland Correspondent Emma Vardy reports on the group from Londonderry.

New IRA says border infrastructure would be ‘legitimate target for attack'
In an interview with Channel 4 News, the New IRA said it was committed to ‘armed actions’ against border infrastructure – and ‘the people who are manning them’.
The New IRA has broken its long silence over Brexit, saying any border infrastructure would be a “legitimate target for attack”.
In an interview with Channel 4 News – thought to be their first on-camera interview for decades – a masked spokesman for the proscribed group said: “The IRA is an army. And as an army we are committed to armed struggle for political and social change in Ireland.”
“Bearing in mind any installation or aspects of British occupation within the Six Counties – be it at the border or elsewhere – any infrastructure would be a legitimate target for attack and armed actions against those infrastructures and ...

VICE News followed Na Fianna members as they carried out "bush training" in the mountains, and attended their Easter Rising march through Dublin, to get an idea of what the young face of dissident republicanism looks like, in an age where support for political violence in Ireland has all but ended.

In February 2014, letter bombs were sent to nine British Military recruitment offices over the course of three days. Londonderry postmarks, a coded message sent to a Northern Irish newspaper, and security forces at Downing Street all pointed to the New IRA as the main suspects.
Last Summer, VICE News visited Derry and heard from Gary Donnelly - the most prominent dissident republican in Londonderry, accused of leading operations for the Real IRA - that these attacks on Britain were to be expected as part of "strategic attacks on high profile targets," as "it's England that's occupying Ireland."
In 'Free Derry: The IRA Drug War', VICE News investigate how, sixteen years after the Good Friday peace agreement and on the eve of the first major loyalist parade through the city in four years, dissident republican activity in Derry is increasing thanks to the merger of the Real IRA with anti-drugs vigilantes.
VICE News reporter Alex Miller speaks to members of the Republican Action Against Drugs (RAAD), who formed the coalition with the Real IRA, and meets supporters as young as thirteen who are being armed with petrol bombs to combat criminal gangs and intervening police.
For the first time, Paul Stewart, a close friend of slain Dublin Real IRA leader Alan Ryan, speaks on camera about witnessing the murder, as well as sharing insights on Ryan's war against drug dealers.
Miller also interviews the mother of Andrew Smith, a man who she says was murdered by the Real IRA despite no affiliation with drugs related crime, before hearing from a Derry ex-drug dealer who now claims that, if the New IRA didn't fight drugs, "this town would be filled with ecstasy and rat poison and kids would be dying."
VICE encounter a city where kneecappings and shootings are rife, walls are branded with anti-UK slogans, and where a policeman can scarcely walk down the street - according to Gary Donnelly - "without being killed".
In "Free Derry: The IRA Drug War", VICE unmask the farcical veneer of the UK's 'City of Culture' 2013.

“Bearing in mind any installation or aspects of British occupation within the Six Counties – be it at the border or elsewhere – any infrastructure would be a legitimate target for attack and armed actions against those infrastructures and against the people who are manning them.”
The man added: “There’s been a border since 1921. It’s been resisted. It is being resisted. It will be resisted regardless of any deal formed around it.”
