Axel: What's gotten into you? Roxas: I just...want these days to last forever. Hanging out, the ice cream, the sunsets... Axel: Nothing lasts forever, man. Least of all for a bunch of Nobodies. But you know, we'll still have each other... even if things change and we can't do this anymore. Roxas: Yeah? Axel: As long as we remember each other, we'll never be apart. Got it memorized? Roxas: Ha ha, wow, Axel. That sounded ridiculous. Axel: What? I thought it was pretty deep. Winner of the wackiest game name I think I've heard from Japan yet, Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days (pronounced "Three Five Eight Over Two") is a part of Square Enix's hit game series, Kingdom Hearts, featuring music composed by the fantastically talented Yoko Shimomura. The story followed the life of Roxas in a year's time, set between Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2; during it we were witness to his tutelage and friendship with Axel, his role in Organization XIII, and... one other element of interest, named Xion. For reasons quite beyond my comprehension, Square Enix chose to release this awesome looking title for the Nintendo DinkyScreen. Many a fan no doubt wailed in lament; the music still sounded beautiful of course, but nothing compared to the PlaystationPuny's Birth By Sleep soundtrack -- and that was compressed! Argh. Not to mention what it probably cost us in voice acted scenes... ... most grievous of all, was the lack of an actual soundtrack. But lo! Square Enix finally responded to fan demand, and now we have a three-disc soundtrack featuring most of the music from Birth By Sleep and 358 Days! (Yeah, 'most' meaning they dropped some from previous titles. No Twilight Town theme from 358 Days for anybody! Le sigh.) 'At Dusk, I Will Think Of You' was once called 'Icing on the Cake' by many a fan, for we had no actual title to put to it until recently. A gentle, poignant theme of friendship, it's frequently heard at the end of each 'Day', when Roxas and his good friends gather to enjoy sea-salt ice cream, while watching the sun set from high atop a clock tower. Very soothing, very moving... very beautiful. As you can hear for yourselves, Yoko Shimomura's musical talent cannot be suppressed. Not by the limitations of the Gameboy Advance when Chain of Memories first debuted, nor by the DS and its lackluster sound capabilities! She'll surely overtake all video game composers in time, mwahahahahaha! Okay, probably not. There are other spiffy ones out there, y'know. But I digress, and quite regularly at that.
