January 26, 1930: Gandhi publishes the Declaration of Independence of India.
March 2, 1931: Gandhi warns the Viceroy of his intention to break the Salt Laws.
March 12-April 6, 1931: Gandhi leads his Salt March to the sea.
May 5, 1931: Gandhi is arrested for violating the Salt Laws; non-cooperation movements break out across India.
January 1931: British government yields to protests, releases all prisoners, invites a Congress representative to Britain for a Round Table Conference (the Congress asks Gandhi to be this representative).
Autumn 1931: Gandhi participates in the Round Table Conference in Britain.
December 28, 1931: Gandhi returns to India.
January 4, 1932: Gandhi is arrested for sedition, and held without a trial.
September 20-25, 1932: Gandhi fasts in prison to protest the treatment of untouchables.
1934-38: Gandhi avoids politics, travels in rural India.
1935: Government of India Act passes British Parliament and is implemented in India; it is the first movement toward independence.
September 1939: World War II begins, lasting until 1945.
March 22, 1942: Sir Stafford Cripps arrives in India, presenting to the Indian National Congress a proposal for Dominion status (autonomy within the British Commonwealth) after the War.
August 8, 1942: The Indian National Congress rejects the Cripps proposal, and declares it will grant its support for the British war effort only in return for independence.
August 1942: Congress leaders are arrested; Gandhi is imprisoned in the Aga Khan's palace.
February 10 to March 2, 1943: Gandhi fasts while imprisoned, to protest British rule.
February 22, 1944: Death of Kasturbai
May 6, 1944: Gandhi is released from the Aga Khan's palace.
Summer 1944: Gandhi visits Muhammed Ali Jinnah in Bombay, but is unable to work out an agreement that will keep India whole.
May 16, 1946: British Cabinet Mission publishes proposal for an Indian state, without partition; Jinnah and the Muslim League reject the proposal.
March 1947: Lord Mountbatten arrives in India and hammers out agreement for independence and partition.
August 15, 1947: Indian independence becomes official, as does the partition into two countries, India and Pakistan.
August-December 1948: India dissolves into chaos and killings, as Hindus and Muslims flee for the borders of India and Pakistan.
January 30, 1948: Gandhi is assassinated by Nathuram Vinayuk Godse, a Hindu nationalist.God gave a precious gift fr India,

Mahatma Gandhi Biography
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, more commonly known as 'Mahatma' (meaning 'Great Soul') was born in Porbandar, Gujarat, in North West India, on 2nd October 1869, into a Hindu Modh family. His father was the Chief Minister of Porbandar, and his mother's religious devotion meant that his upbringing was infused with the Jain pacifist teachings of mutual tolerance, non-injury to living beings and vegetarianism.
Born into a privileged caste, Gandhi was fortunate to receive a comprehensive education, but proved a mediocre student. In May 1883, aged 13, Gandhi was married to Kasturba Makhanji, a girl also aged 13, through the arrangement of their respective parents, as is customary in India. Following his entry into Samaldas College, at the University of Bombay, she bore him the first of four sons, in 1888. Gandhi was unhappy at college, following his parent's wishes to take the bar, and when he was offered the opportunity of furthering his studies overseas, at University College London, aged 18, he accepted with alacrity, starting there in September 1888.

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (pronounced: [ˈmoːɦənd̪aːs ˈkərəmtʃənd̪ ˈɡaːnd̪ʱi]; 2 October 1869 – 30 January 1948), commonly known as Mahatma Gandhi, was the preeminent leader of Indian nationalism in British-ruled India. Employing non-violent civil disobedience, Gandhi led India to independence and inspired movements for non-violence, civil rights and freedom across the world.
Son of a senior government official, Gandhi was born and raised in a Hindu Bania community in coastal Gujarat, and trained in law in London. Gandhi became famous by fighting for the civil rights of Muslim and Hindu Indians in South Africa, using the new techniques of non-violent civil disobedience that he developed. Returning to India in 1915, he set about organising peasants to protest excessive land-taxes. A lifelong opponent of "communalism" (i.e. basing politics on religion) he reached out widely to all religious groups. He became a leader of Muslims protesting the declining status of the Caliphate. Assuming leadership of the Indian National Congress in 1921, Gandhi led nationwide campaigns for easing poverty, expanding women's rights, building religious and ethnic amity, ending untouchability, increasing economic self-reliance, and above all for achieving Swaraj—the independence of India from British domination.

All he is concerned about, even when he goes to New York for further studies is that he's here to study, not get involved in political issues and rallies. His exchanges with Afro-Americans, his teachers who support Human Rights and the inclusion of the 14th Amendment in the US Constitution granting rights to African-Americans however rouse the reformer in him. While India is fighting against the British rule on the political level spear-headed by Mahatma Gandhi, Ambedkar wages a social battle against the Upper Caste Hindus. Ambedkar and Gandhi clash in their ideologies. Yet Gandhi admires Ambedkar and it is on his insistence that Ambedkar is made the first Law Minister in Prime Minister, Nehru's rule. The film ends on the note of salvation - where Ambedkar gives millions of untouchables an alternate religion where they find dignity, compassion and equality. He publicly renounces Hinduism and adopts Buddhism.

Religious tensions between Hindus and Muslims erupt into nation-wide violence. Gandhi declares a hunger strike, saying he will not eat until the fighting stops. The fighting does stop eventually, but the country is divided. It is decided that the northwest area of India, and eastern part of India (current day Bangladesh), both places where Muslims are in the majority, will become a new country called Pakistan (West and East Pakistan respectively). It is hoped that by encouraging the Muslims to live in a separate country, violence will abate. Gandhi is opposed to the idea, and is even willing to allow Muhammad Ali Jinnah to become the first prime minister of India, but the Partition of India is carried out nevertheless. Gandhi spends his last days trying to bring about peace between both nations. He thereby angers many dissidents on both sides, one of whom finally gets close enough to assassinate him.

Mahatma Gandhi Biography Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, more commonly known as 'Mahatma' (meaning 'Great Soul') was born in Porbandar, Gujarat, in North West India, on 2nd October 1869, into a Hindu Modh family. His father was the Chief Minister of Porbandar, and his mother's religious devotion meant that his upbringing was infused with the Jain pacifist teachings of mutual tolerance, non-injury to living beings and vegetarianism. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, more commonly known as 'Mahatma' (meaning 'Great Soul') was born in Porbandar, Gujarat, in North West India, on 2nd October 1869, into a Hindu Modh family. His father was the Chief Minister of Porbandar, and his mother's religious devotion meant that his upbringing was infused with the Jain pacifist teachings of mutual tolerance, non-injury to living beings and vegetarianism.
Born into a privileged caste, Gandhi was fortunate to receive a comprehensive education, but proved a mediocre student. In May 1883, aged 13, Gandhi was married to Kasturba Makhanji, a girl also aged 13, through the arrangement of their respective parents, as is customary in India. Following his entry into Samaldas College, at the University of Bombay, she bore him the first of four sons, in 1888. Gandhi was unhappy at college, following his parent's wishes to take the bar, and when he was offered the opportunity of furthering his studies overseas, at University College London, aged 18, he accepted with alacrity, starting there in September 1888.

Arun Manilal Gandhi (born April 14, 1934) is the fifth grandson of Mohandas Gandhi through his second son Manilal. Following the footsteps of his grandfather, he is also a socio-political activist, although he eschews the ascetic lifestyle of his grandfather.
In 1987, Arun Gandhi moved to the United States along with his wife, Sunanda, to work on a study at the University of Mississippi. This study examined and contrasted the sorts of prejudices that existed in India, the U.S., and South Africa. Afterward they moved to Memphis, Tennessee and founded the M. K. Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence hosted by the Christian Brothers University, a Catholic academic institution. This institute was dedicated to applying the principles of nonviolence at both local and global scales. In 1996, he cofounded the Season for Nonviolence as a yearly celebration of the philosophies and lives of Mahatma Gandhi and Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
In fall of 2007, Gandhi co-taught a course entitled "Gandhi on Personal Leadership and Nonviolence" at Salisbury University in Salisbury, Maryland. On November 12, 2007, Gandhi gave a lecture for the Salisbury University Center for Conflict Resolution's "One Person Can Make a Difference" Lecture Series, entitled "Nonviolence in the Age of Terrorism". In fall of 2008, Gandhi returned to Salisbury University to co-teach a course entitled "The Global Impact of Gandhi".
In 2007, after the passing of his wife, the institute moved to Rochester, New York, and is currently located on the University of Rochester River Campus.
Arun has given many speeches about nonviolence in many countries. During his tour to Israel, he urged the Palestinians to resist Israeli occupation peacefully to assure their freedom. In August 2004, Gandhi proposed to the Palestinian Parliament a peaceful march of 50,000 refugees across the Jordan River to return to their homeland, and said MPs should lead the way. Gandhi also claimed that the fate of Palestinians is ten times worse than that of blacks in South African Apartheid. He asked: "What would happen? Maybe the Israeli army would shoot and kill several. They may kill 100. They may kill 200 men, women and children. And that would shock the world. The world will get up and say, 'What is going on?'." Gandhi later said that Yasser Arafat was receptive to the march idea, but it became a moot point after Arafat's November 2004 death.[citation needed] On January 7, 2008, while writing for the Washington Post's On Faith blog, Gandhi wrote that "Jewish identity is locked into the holocaust experience," in which Jews "overplay . . . to the point that it begins to repulse friends...Apparently, in the modern world, so determined to live by the bomb, this is an alien concept. You don't befriend anyone, you dominate them. We have created a culture of violence (Israel and the Jews are the biggest players) and that Culture of Violence is eventually going to destroy humanity". Gandhi later apologized for his remarks, saying he had been talking about all Jews when he should have been talking about Israel's policies, but he ended up resigning from his Institute on January 25, 2008.
On October 12, 2009 Arun visited the Brunton Theatre in Musselburgh to talk to P7's from all over Eastlothian in Scotland. On November 11, 2009 Arun visited Chattanooga State Technical Community College in Chattanooga, TN to speak and spread his message of peace. On November 13, 2009 Arun visited Cleveland State Community College in Cleveland, TN to speak and spread his message of peace. On November 16, 2010 Arun visited The University of Wyoming in Laramie, WY to speak and spread his message of peace.

Gandhi proviene de orígenes lejanos de nuestra cultura. Y, sin embargo, sentimos que está extraordinariamente cerca de nosotros.
No fue cristiano en el sentido oficial de la palabra, pero fue un hombre franciscanamente evangélico.
¿Qué es lo que hizo en su larga vida?
-dio testimonio de la Verdad;
-sirvió a su pueblo, especialmente a los pobres;
-defendió la paz en el mundo entero.
Quería un mundo y una unidad basada en el amor.
No se doblegó ante nadie; no por orgullo, sino porque solamente se sentía en el deber de ofrendar a Dios su incondicional sumisión.

Los verdaderos testigos ponen en aprieto, porque existe siempre una parte menos noble de nosotros que querría retirarse a los bastidores del espíritu, y frente a un modelo se siente cobarde. No hay hombre más difícil de soportar que quien logra poner en crisis tu conciencia sin odiarte.

The film brings together a mass of visual record not only of 78-year life of Gandhi but also of an important period of India's history.
The aim of the film being education and not entertainment, there is no attempt at dramatization of those exciting times. The story is told with an eye to truthful documentation of the main events within the limits of available documentary visual material...

EL AUTOR
Jorge Elías Adoum (Mago Jefa): ESCRITOR y MÉDICO NATURISTA. Nació el 10 de marzo de 1897 en la propiedad agrícola de su padre, Francisco Adum, en Kafr-Shbeil muy cerca de Biblos, Líbano, y perteneció a una familia católico-maronita.
(En su libro Nociones Fundamentales de Endocrinología y Criminología el V.M.Samael Aun Weor se refiere a él como insigne escritor Gnóstico y gran maestro de Misterios Mayores de la Logia Blanca.)
Aunque fue un prolífico escritor, no se conoce ningún currículum-vitae suyo, ni siquiera para la contratapa de alguno de sus numerosos libros. Toda la información de la que se dispone proviene de las referencias de sus hijos, ya que habiendo fallecido en 1958 a la edad de 61 años, en 1988 (30 años después) la mayoría de sus contemporáneos que pudieran informar sobre sus primeros años han dejado también de existir. Se sabe que tuvo un hermano menor, el último, Salim, y tres hermanas: Celinda, fallecida en Guayaquil, Nazza y Rebicimia, fallecidas en Brasil, país adonde emigraron casadas durante la Primera Guerra Mundial.
Fue una persona hermética en lo que concernía a su vida. En dos de las novelas que escribió: Adonay y El Bautismo del Dolor (la primera publicada en español y portugués y la segunda sólo en portugués), lo que aconteció a Adonay aparentemente son relatos autobiográficos de su vida en Líbano, Cercano Oriente y Francia.

Algunas de sus obras se agotaron en la primera edición y es difícil encontrar un ejemplar para hacer una nueva. De ello se ocupa actualmente la "Comissáo Divulgadora das Obras de Jorge Adoum".
