Shining Through
Shining Through is a 1992 British-American World War II drama film written and directed by David Seltzer and starring Michael Douglas and Melanie Griffith, with Liam Neeson, Joely Richardson and John Gielgud in supporting roles. Although based on the novel of the same name by Susan Isaacs, the film's plot and characters are considerably different. The original music score was composed by Michael Kamen. The film's tagline is: "He needed to trust her with his secret. She had to trust him with her life."
Plot
In 1940, Linda Voss (Melanie Griffith), a young woman of Irish/German Jewish parentage, applies for a new job as a secretary with a New York law firm, but was rejected as she didn't graduate from a prestigious women's college.
Because she can speak German fluently, she becomes translator to Ed Leland (Michael Douglas), a humourless attorney, who is referred to as the "pallbearer" by his peers due to his lack of humor. She gradually comes to suspect that he hides dark secrets. She is proven right when, after America officially joins forces with the Allies, he emerges as a colonel in the OSS. She accompanies him to confidential meetings in New York and Washington D.C., and before long, they become lovers. When he is suddenly posted away, she is left alone and devastated. Assigned to work in the War Department, Linda longs for and hears nothing of Ed until one evening as she sat on her own in a local restaurant-bar he reappears as suddenly as he left with an attractive female officer. Reluctant to resume their affair, he does re-employ her.

Shining Through (novel)
Shining Through is a World War II novel by Susan Isaacs. It was published by HarperCollins in 1988. The book was made into a 1992 film of the same name, starring Michael Douglas as Edward Leland and Melanie Griffith as Linda Voss, but the plot and characters were considerably different.
Plot Summary
In 1940, Linda Voss, 31 and unmarried, is secretary to John Berringer, a partner in a New York law firm. She is secretly in love with John, but he’s married to Nan, the daughter of the senior partner Edward Leland, and politically and socially well-connected. She commences an affair with John after his wife leaves and sues for divorce. Linda falls pregnant and they marry in a brief civil ceremony, which neither is really enthusiastic about.
Leland moves to Washington to take a senior position in a new organisation, soon to be renamed the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), which coordinates war-related information from German refugees in America. He requests that John and Linda join him; because of Linda’s fluent German, learnt from her Berlin-born grandmother, and her full FBI security clearance, Linda works directly with Ed. She is able to alert him that a translator is falsifying information from a number of informants.

Shining Through (song)
"Shining Through" is a song by American R&B/jazz singer Miki Howard, released in 1993 as the third single from her fourth studio album, Femme Fatale. Produced by David Foster, this ballad is a soul gospel-tinged song. The single released in the U.S. as a double A-side with the double B-side of airplay "But I Love You". While not as successful as the two preceding singles, "Ain't Nobody Like You" and "Release Me", the song received heavy-rotation on R&B radio.

Welcome back to the Overlook Hotel I'm your host Paul and this video we're breaking down the ending of the Shining. After our initial breakdown on the film hit the one million view mark I thought I'd return to one of my favourite finals to discuss it's final shot in detail. Throughout this video we'll be going over what it really means, all the theories behind it and hopefully finally giving some closure to the movies final shot.
Now this is something that has had people scratching their heads for the best part of 4 decades. Incase you don't know the book takes place in the year 1975 with the 1980 film taking place roughly around the same time. It follows the Torrance family as they move into the overlook hotel to act as caretakers over the winter.

Welcome back to the Overlook Hotel I'm your host Paul and this video we're breaking down the ending of the Shining. After our initial breakdown on the film hit the one million view mark I thought I'd return to one of my favourite finals to discuss it's final shot in detail. Throughout this video we'll be going over what it really means, all the theories behind it and hopefully finally giving some closure to the movies final shot.
Now this is something that has had people scratching their heads for the best part of 4 decades. Incase you don't know the book takes place in the year 1975 with the 1980 film taking place roughly around the same time. It follows the Torrance family as they move into the overlook hotel to act as caretakers over the winter.

Shining Through
Shining Through is a 1992 British-American World War II drama film written and directed by David Seltzer and starring Michael Douglas and Melanie Griffith, with Liam Neeson, Joely Richardson and John Gielgud in supporting roles. Although based on the novel of the same name by Susan Isaacs, the film's plot and characters are considerably different. The original music score was composed by Michael Kamen. The film's tagline is: "He needed to trust her with his secret. She had to trust him with her life."
Plot
In 1940, Linda Voss (Melanie Griffith), a young woman of Irish/German Jewish parentage, applies for a new job as a secretary with a New York law firm, but was rejected as she didn't graduate from a prestigious women's college.
Because she can speak German fluently, she becomes translator to Ed Leland (Michael Douglas), a humourless attorney, who is referred to as the "pallbearer" by his peers due to his lack of humor. She gradually comes to suspect that he hides dark secrets. She is proven right when, after America officially joins forces with the Allies, he emerges as a colonel in the OSS. She accompanies him to confidential meetings in New York and Washington D.C., and before long, they become lovers. When he is suddenly posted away, she is left alone and devastated. Assigned to work in the War Department, Linda longs for and hears nothing of Ed until one evening as she sat on her own in a local restaurant-bar he reappears as suddenly as he left with an attractive female officer. Reluctant to resume their affair, he does re-employ her.
