Embattled Geelong Mayor Darryn Lyons and TODAY co-host Karl Stefanovic have faced off in a heated interview, as the future of the former paparazzo and his entire council teeters on the edge of collapse, following allegations of bullying.
Mr Lyons admitted to being “bullish” but not a bully this morning, saying he was “disgusted and upset” that he was “singled out” in a scathing report on the council, which he suggested was a political attempt to get him out of office.
The entire Geelong council is now set to be dumped following an independent Commission of Inquiry, which claimed that bullying and harassment was rampant among councillors and staff.
“I suppose I’m pretty disgusted and upset on the 1500 page report that very much solely singled out and identified the mayor. But the fact of the matter is all other identities have been completely covered up in this,” he told Stefanovic.
Stefanovic probed Mr Lyons on a number of allegations brought against him and his councillors in the report, during which Mr Lyons admitted to an “outburst” against a female member of staff.
“Other staff members, the report says, were relocated away from the mayor’s office to minimise their contact with you - is that true?” Stefanovic asked.
“That’s right,” Mr Lyons replied, followed by an extended pause from the host.
“Doesn’t that say everything?” Stefanovic hit back.
The report levels a range of abuse allegations involving Mr Lyons and other councillors, often directed at staff.
"F--- me, I'm the mayor, I don't need to be meeting with someone one week and then meeting with them the next," Mr Lyons reportedly told one staff member.
The report also claims Mr Lyons threatened to close down a local business after yelling at their staff, then later told investigators he did not remember the interaction.
“There has been a culture of bullying throughout the organisation, Karl, for 20 years. I am bullish but I am not a bully, and that’s what I’ve got to say to you,” Mr Lyons said, defending his alleged foul-mouthed manner as a result of his “powerhouse” personality.
Parliament’s upper house will now decide the fate of the council and how long it will be managed by commissioners.
Wrapping up the interview, Stefanovic said he hoped Mr Lyons would lose his seat as mayor for “everyone’s sake and Geelong”.

Been putting this off for a while because I'm a lazy bastard, but finally here it is, a video on Elder Lyons (which, in hindsight doesn't completely focus on Lyons himself, but whatever). I want to upload more often, but it's a bit difficult to get motivated sometimes. I'll try for at least one video a week from now on, hopefully I can keep it up.

Darryn Lyons (born 19 August 1965) is an Australian paparazzo, media personality and entrepreneur, best known for his work in Britain.
Lyons' grew up in a "cathedral-like" house, designed by his father who was an architect, in Melbourne, Victoria.
Born in Geelong, Victoria on 19 August 1965, Lyons graduated from Geelong East Technical School, then began work as a professional photographer at the Geelong News and Geelong Advertiser. At the age of 22, he moved to London, where he gained a job at News of the World after a chance meeting with Rupert Murdoch. Two years later, he left to take a position with the Daily Mail, for whom he provided coverage of the Bosnian War.
In 1992, Lyons founded the picture company Big Pictures, which supplies paparazzi-style photography for news organizations. He gained widespread media attention when his company sold a photograph to News of the World, which was used to support a claim that football star David Beckham was having an affair with his personal assistant Rebecca Loos.

Embattled Geelong Mayor Darryn Lyons and TODAY co-host Karl Stefanovic have faced off in a heated interview, as the future of the former paparazzo and his entire council teeters on the edge of collapse, following allegations of bullying.
Mr Lyons admitted to being “bullish” but not a bully this morning, saying he was “disgusted and upset” that he was “singled out” in a scathing report on the council, which he suggested was a political attempt to get him out of office.
The entire Geelong council is now set to be dumped following an independent Commission of Inquiry, which claimed that bullying and harassment was rampant among councillors and staff.
“I suppose I’m pretty disgusted and upset on the 1500 page report that very much solely singled out and identified the mayor. But the fact of the matter is all other identities have been completely covered up in this,” he told Stefanovic.
Stefanovic probed Mr Lyons on a number of allegations brought against him and his councillors in the report, during which Mr Lyons admitted to an “outburst” against a female member of staff.
“Other staff members, the report says, were relocated away from the mayor’s office to minimise their contact with you - is that true?” Stefanovic asked.
“That’s right,” Mr Lyons replied, followed by an extended pause from the host.
“Doesn’t that say everything?” Stefanovic hit back.
The report levels a range of abuse allegations involving Mr Lyons and other councillors, often directed at staff.
"F--- me, I'm the mayor, I don't need to be meeting with someone one week and then meeting with them the next," Mr Lyons reportedly told one staff member.
The report also claims Mr Lyons threatened to close down a local business after yelling at their staff, then later told investigators he did not remember the interaction.
“There has been a culture of bullying throughout the organisation, Karl, for 20 years. I am bullish but I am not a bully, and that’s what I’ve got to say to you,” Mr Lyons said, defending his alleged foul-mouthed manner as a result of his “powerhouse” personality.
Parliament’s upper house will now decide the fate of the council and how long it will be managed by commissioners.
Wrapping up the interview, Stefanovic said he hoped Mr Lyons would lose his seat as mayor for “everyone’s sake and Geelong”.

I want to upload more often, but it's a bit difficult to get motivated sometimes. I'll try for at least one video a week from now on, hopefully I can keep it up.
