Middle East leaders have arrived at the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) summit in Manama, Bahrain, where they will spend two days discussing collective security, military affairs, customs union and a common trade market, as well as talk about the increasingly desperate situation in Syria.
Algerian customs has on Friday denied the suspension of the agreements of free exchange with the European Union (EU) and the member countries of the Arab Zone.
The country said the confusion is due to the instruction of the Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal requesting that some goods should be exempted from customs duties.

A delegation from the European Parliament Foreign Relations Committee headed by Elmar Brok had talks in the Turkish capital Ankara on March 17, seeking ways to update the Customs Union to protect Turkey’s interests over the EU’s free trade agreements with third parties.
The delegation had talks with the Economy Ministry and discussed improving the Customs Union, Brok said, noting both sides have deficiencies on the issue and they realized those problems in time.
Speaking after the delegation’s meeting with Parliament Speaker Cemil Çiçek, Brok said their visit to Turkey was an indication of the importance they attached to the country.
“In Brussels, everybody has a willingness to keep on with the Customs Union as it’s a success story,” Brok said, noting they were aware a solution is needed to avoid Turkey suffering from the EU’s free trade agreements with third parties.
Çiçek, for his part, said Turkish people are of the opinion negotiations are stalled.
“This opinion could only be changed by the submission of benchmarks and the opening of negotiation chapters 23 and 24,” he said.
Çiçek complained about statements from the EU, which he said were “political rather than judicial.”
The parliament speaker also defended the Turkish government’s contentious security package, saying some member states have detention periods lasting as long as 28 days, but the legislation increasing detention times in Turkey to four days before a court decision becomes a matter of debate in the country.
On the issue of opening new chapters in negotiations with Turkey, Brok said the Union is currently in a period of economic crisis, which makes enlargement more difficult.

April 5, 2012 - The day started gloomy as we get ourselves ready to cover the sweet couple Barjien and Rayhana, but nothing could stop the union of this two deep-loving couple who assured the occasion that the sun will always shine bright despite all odds.
And so it did and we continued to breeze through the hot afternoon as Barj and Reign finally sealed their vows in the eyes of Allah. It was a majestic celebration as family and friends flocked to both the groom and brides home and even accompanied him to finally visit and get his beautiful and loving wife.
The day ended with warm receptions everywhere as families and guests threw their support with fun and laughter for the newlyweds.

The Arab customs union is a customs union announced at the Arab League's 2009 Arab Economic and Social Development Summit in Kuwait in order to achieve a functional customs union by 2015 and an Arab common market by 2020 and to increase inter-Arab trade and integration.
The announcement was made by the head of the Arab Customs Union Committee, Saud Al Jefeiri, who recently presided over a two-day meeting of the committee at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo, Egypt.
Participants in the meeting discussed the customs union plan and the structure of the customs union and reviewed the legal structure and regulations for the union. The union will lead to the establishment of an Arab common market.
Al Jefeiri, who represented Qatar at the meeting, said most Arab member countries agreed to put forward an implementing plan, Egypt and Morocco asked for an independent accord to govern the customs union.
The Arab customs union resolution contains 17 chapters and 179 articles regulating economic and trade relationship between Arab countries, and aims to boost trade and investment among member states

A customs union is a type of trade bloc which is composed of a free trade area with a common external tariff. The participant countries set up common external trade policy, but in some cases they use different import quotas. Common competition policy is also helpful to avoid competition deficiency.
Purposes for establishing a customs union normally include increasing economic efficiency and establishing closer political and cultural ties between the member countries.
It is the third stage of economic integration.
Customs unions are established through trade pacts.

Additionally the autonomous and dependent territories, such as some of the EU member state special territories, are sometimes treated as separate customs territory from their mainland state or have varying arrangements of formal or de-facto customs union, common market and currency union (or combinations thereof) with the mainland and in regards to third countries trough the trade pacts signed by the mainland state.

The delegation had talks with the Economy Ministry and discussed improving the Customs Union, Brok said, noting both sides have deficiencies on the issue and they realized those problems in time.
Speaking after the delegation’s meeting with Parliament Speaker Cemil Çiçek, Brok said their visit to Turkey was an indication of the importance they attached to the country.
“In Brussels, everybody has a willingness to keep on with the Customs Union as it’s a success story,” Brok said, noting they were aware a solution is needed to avoid Turkey suffering from the EU’s free trade agreements with third parties.
Çiçek, for his part, said Turkish people are of the opinion negotiations are stalled.
“This opinion could only be changed by the submission of benchmarks and the opening of negotiation chapters 23 and 24,” he said.
Çiçek complained about statements from the EU, which he said were “political rather than judicial.”
The parliament speaker also defended the Turkish government’s contentious security package, saying some member states have detention periods lasting as long as 28 days, but the legislation increasing detention times in Turkey to four days before a court decision becomes a matter of debate in the country.
On the issue of opening new chapters in negotiations with Turkey, Brok said the Union is currently in a period of economic crisis, which makes enlargement more difficult.
