The Fruit and Spice Park is a 37-acre (15 ha) botanical garden in Miami-Dade County at 24801 SW 187 Avenue, located in the rural agricultural community of Redland, about 20 miles southwest of Downtown Miami.
The park contains more than 500 varieties of fruit, nut, and spice trees, including more than 80 banana varieties, 160 varieties of mango, more than 40 varieties of grapes, 70 bamboo varieties, plus guava, jackfruit, canistel, sapodilla, longan, lychee, mamey sapote, black sapote ("chocolate pudding fruit"), miracle fruit, jaboticaba, cecropia ("snake fingers"), coffee beans, and wax jambu, as well as other more exotic edibles. Visitors are free to sample fruits lying on the ground, but are not allowed to pick anything from the trees. Fruits that may be poisonous if not consumed correctly, such as ackee, are fenced for safety. The park has completed many renovations and separates the plants into Caribbean, African and Asian sections.
In botany, a fruit is the seed-bearing structure in angiosperms formed from the ovary after flowering.
Fruits are the means by which angiosperms disseminate seeds. Edible fruits, in particular, have propagated with the movements of humans and animals in a symbiotic relationship as a means for seed dispersal and nutrition; in fact, humans and many animals have become dependent on fruits as a source of food. Accordingly, fruits account for a substantial fraction of the world's agricultural output, and some (such as the apple and the pomegranate) have acquired extensive cultural and symbolic meanings.
In common language usage, "fruit" normally means the fleshy seed-associated structures of a plant that are sweet or sour, and edible in the raw state, such as apples, bananas, grapes, lemons, oranges, and strawberries. On the other hand, in botanical usage, "fruit" includes many structures that are not commonly called "fruits", such as bean pods, corn kernels, tomatoes, and wheat grains. The section of a fungus that produces spores is also called a fruiting body.
A spice is a seed, fruit, root, bark, berry, bud or vegetable substance primarily used for flavoring, coloring or preserving food. Spices are distinguished from herbs, which are parts of leafy green plants used for flavoring or as a garnish. Many spices have antimicrobial properties. This may explain why spices are more commonly used in warmer climates, which have more infectious disease, and why the use of spices is prominent in meat, which is particularly susceptible to spoiling. A spice may have other uses, including medicinal, religious ritual, cosmetics or perfume production, or as a vegetable.
The spice trade developed throughout South Asia and Middle East in around 2000 BCE with cinnamon and pepper, and in East Asia with herbs and pepper. The Egyptians used herbs for embalming and their demand for exotic herbs helped stimulate world trade. The word spice comes from the Old French word espice, which became epice, and which came from the Latin root spec, the noun referring to "appearance, sort, kind": species has the same root. By 1000 BCE, medical systems based upon herbs could be found in China, Korea, and India. Early uses were connected with magic, medicine, religion, tradition, and preservation.
A park is an area of natural, semi-natural, or planted space set aside for human enjoyment and recreation or for the protection of wildlife or natural habitats. It may consist of grassy areas, rocks, soil, and trees, but may also contain buildings and other artifacts such as monuments, fountains or playground structures. In North America, many parks have fields for playing sports such as soccer, baseball and football, and paved areas for games such as basketball. Many parks have trails for walking, biking and other activities. Some parks are built adjacent to bodies of water or watercourses, and these parks may comprise a beach or boat dock area. Often, the smallest parks are in urban areas, where a park may take up only a city block or less. Urban parks often have benches for sitting and they may contain picnic tables and barbecue grills. Parks have differing rules regarding whether dogs can be brought into the park: some parks prohibit dogs; some parks allow them with restrictions (e.g., use of a leash); and some parks, which may be called "dog parks," permit dogs to run off-leash.
Homestead is a city within Miami-Dade County in the U.S. state of Florida, nestled between Biscayne National Park to the east and Everglades National Park to the west. Homestead is primarily a Miami suburb and a major agricultural area.
Homestead was incorporated in 1913 and is the second oldest city in Miami-Dade County next to the city of Miami. It is located approximately 35 miles (56 km) southwest of Miami, and 25 miles (40 km) northwest of Key Largo. The name originates from when the Florida East Coast Railway extension to Key West was being built. The rail line was passing through an area opened up for homesteading, and as the construction camp at the end of the line did not have a particular name, construction materials and supplies for the workers were consigned to "Homestead Country", shortened to "Homestead" by the engineers who mapped the area. The population was 60,512 at the 2010 census. Homestead and neighboring South Miami-Dade County communities bore the brunt of Category 5 Hurricane Andrew on August 24, 1992.

The Spice Tour introduces you to most of Zanzibar's spices and fruits, (depending on the season). The exotic spices and fruits are grown in the plantations just outside of Stone Town and there's ample opportunity to dazzle the senses as you taste and smell them and guess what they are. The guide gives detailed descriptions of what the various plants are used for, though not all of them are for food. The leaves of the neem tree were once used as a cure for malaria and indigestion, the iodine tree produces a deep red sap used to fight infection, while the foaming berries of the unimaginatively named soap berry tree ...

Best time to go is in the morning. Everyone is welcome to eat whatever has fallen to the ground. With 10 hours to fall and no humans around to pick up the fruits you get prime pickings. So morning you are guaranteed a wonderful breakfast. Zone 10 can grow many tropical fruits and spices. Miracle fruit helps people taste food. Sour taste bud receptors will turn sweet for 1 hour. Even very sour fruits will taste super sweet. I ate a Miracle fruit and had a Key lime was so good! Also eating Dragon fruit " Pitaya" after a miracle fruit is amazing! Moringa grows very well in Zone 10 this was the first time i ate fresh Moringa leaves and the taste grew on me the more i ate it. People eat Moringa for its nutritional values lots of amino acids and protein. Can regrow hair and the pods can be used...

We are just a couple kids who love plants and want a jungle-fy our Arizona desert backyard. We had an amazing opportunity to travel to the Miami area at the end of this past June to attend the annual Mango Festival at Fairchild Botanical Garden. While in Florida, we did what any two plant nerds would do: explore! Our trip (which got cut a day short because we missed our flight!) took us to Fruit and Spice Park, Robert Is Here, Tropical Bamboo, and more! This trip was such an incredible experience for us and we wish we could thank everyone we met for their generous hospitality. If you ever travel to southern Florida, definitely check out some of the places in this video and tell us what you think!
