Seven eastbound trains and one westbound train travel Union Pacific's Little Rock Subdivision between Longview and Hallsville, Texas on Friday, January 18, 2013. The first train passes eastbound at Roy Green Rd., milepost 82.45 near Hallsville. This train had a solid consist of brand-new UP covered hopper cars. Knowing that there is often a mid-morning lull in traffic I left to go buy gas in Hallsville. As I was leaving the station a westbound UP freight charged through town. I was able to get ahead of it as it slowed to a stop near milepost 84. I arrived at Mason Springs Church Rd., milepost 85.01 to wait for its passage. This area has a sweeping curve ideal for viewing westbound trains. From my scanner I heard the dispatcher tell the westbound that there were at least two eastbound trains waiting to leave Longview. They passed by and I waited for the westbound to get a signal. However, the signal for track one, which extinguishes when a train clears the signal block remained lit, indicating more movements. I don't really like filming eastbound trains here as there are light poles which UP installed that ruin the view from the west. However, I would not have had enough time to leave and travel back to Hallsville. I decided to stay and was glad I did. Three more eastbound trains passed before the westbound was cleared to move. One of those was the daily mid-morning BNSF trackage rights train, running with a "warbonnet" painted locomotive. After the BNSF train the westbound was finally cleared to move. After its passage one more eastbound train passed through. It was running with a single locomotive, one of two painted for UP's Olympic Torch Train, which ran for the 2002 Winter Olympic Games. All total, eight trains passed in less than three hours, and I caught all of them. I apologize for some wind noise in the videos.
