Goodbye

So thank you for joining us over the last 18 hours or so - but perhaps Anthony Stansfeld has the right idea. Time for a large whiskey... and bed.

To recap

It's been a busy day of counting across the South, but apart from tomorrow's Winchester result, the winners have been declared.

For the most part there were no surprises - although the biggest upset was  most likely West Oxfordshire's Duncan Enright's stomach after his roller coaster election night.

Elsewhere, no councils changed hands in the region - Weymouth and Portland and Portsmouth stayed in no overall control.

There were Labour holds in Oxford, Southampton and Reading, the Lib Dems kept Eastleigh and the Conservatives retained control of Cherwell.

And in the PCC elections, Thames Valley and Dorset kept their incumbents Anthony Stansfeld (Cons) and Martyn Underhill (Independent), while in Hampshire Michael Lane (Cons) was elected to the job for this first time.

New job

A former Commodore in the Royal Navy, Michael Lane replaces Simon Hayes, who was elected Hampshire PCC in 2012 standing on an independent platform.

On leaving the Army he worked in marketing before running the aircraft company Pilatus Britten Norman. For more read his biog here.

Stansfeld: PCC win 'very satisfactory'

Anthony Stansfeld described his PCC win as a “very satisfactory result”, saying crime in the region had reduced “hugely” since he took over in 2012.

When asked if he would be celebrating tonight, he told our reporter: "I shall have a large whiskey and go to bed."

"I look forward to the next four years with excitement and I think we will continue to do an excellent job."
