Big Ballet

Big Ballet was a British documentary television programme produced by Rare Day and broadcast on Channel 4. The three-episode series was first broadcast on 6 February 2014. It followed Wayne Sleep and prima ballerina Monica Loughman as they worked with a troupe of plus-size amateur dancers to realise their dream of dancing Swan Lake.

The programme also featured Matthew Bourne, Derek Deane, Patricia Doyle, David Plumpton, Tamara Rojo, David Nixon and the English National Ballet. It was predominantly filmed at the Northern Ballet with the final performance staged at St George's Hall, Bradford. in front of 1,500 people. Adverts were placed and five hundred people replied. The advert read "Have you ever dreamt of being a ballet-dancer but feel your size holds you back? Have you ever imagined dancing on a big stage in front of an adoring crowd? We are looking for talented dancers aged 18-55 to take part in our new series about ballet. No previous ballet experience necessary. If you're interested to hear more, we'd love to talk to you!". The applicants were whittled down to a troupe of eighteen for the series.

Teen Vogue

Teen Vogue magazine began as a version of Vogue magazine for teenage girls. This U.S. magazine focuses on fashion and celebrities and offers information about the latest entertainment and features stories on current issues and events.

Description

The magazine is published in a smaller 6¾"x9" format, allowing it a unique cover size and more visibility on the front of a magazine selling shelf, and some flexibility getting into a digest size slot at checkout stands.

Content

The magazine follows the basic tenets of teen magazines, although with a more glossy view which fits with the template of the Vogue style.

Once a year, Teen Vogue hosts a party for their Young Hollywood issue in the fall. The Teen Vogue Young Hollywood party is often a well attended event in Los Angeles society.

Ballet

Ballet /ˈbæleɪ/ (French: [balɛ]) is a type of performance dance that originated in the Italian Renaissance courts of the 15th century and later developed into a concert dance form in France and Russia. It has since become a widespread, highly technical form of dance with its own vocabulary based on French terminology. It has been globally influential and has defined the foundational techniques used in many other dance genres. Becoming a ballet dancer requires years of training. Ballet has been taught in various schools around the world, which have historically incorporated their own cultures to evolve the art.

Ballet may also refer to a ballet dance work, which consists of the choreography and music for a ballet production. A well-known example of this is The Nutcracker, a two-act ballet that was originally choreographed by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov with a music score by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Ballets are choreographed and performed by trained artists. Many classical ballets are performed with classical music accompaniment and use elaborate costumes and staging, though there are exceptions to this. Most notably, American choreographer George Balanchine is known for his plotless neoclassical ballets which are often performed in simple leotards and tights without scenery.

Ovation

The ovation (Latin: ovatio) was a form of the Roman triumph. Ovations were granted when war was not declared between enemies on the level of nations or states; when an enemy was considered basely inferior (e.g., slaves, pirates); or when the general conflict was resolved with little or no danger to the army itself.

The general celebrating the ovation did not enter the city on a biga, a chariot pulled by two white horses, as generals celebrating triumphs did, but instead walked in the toga praetexta of a magistrate.

The honoured general also wore a wreath of myrtle (sacred to Venus) upon his brow, rather than the triumphal wreath of laurel. The Roman Senate did not precede the general, nor did soldiers usually participate in the procession.

Perhaps the most famous ovation in history is that which Marcus Licinius Crassus celebrated after his victory of the Third Servile War.
